It does not replace the original campaign with a new story. You are buying the same core high-speed mech action in a more modern presentation, with extra options and a first-person cockpit mode.

Konami lists PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, PC, and Steam as platforms. PlayStation VR is a feature of the PS4 release rather than a separate story campaign. On a television or monitor, the normal action is presented from a third-person viewpoint; in VR, the viewpoint is placed inside Jehuty’s cockpit.

Should you buy the PS4 version?
Choose PS4 for a straightforward console setup
The PS4 edition is the least ambiguous choice if you want to play on a television without researching PC hardware. You receive the remastered campaign and its additional options on the console listed by Konami. You do not need a VR headset to play the regular game. VR is optional, not an entry requirement.
The standard presentation is third-person, so a PS4 owner can enjoy the action entirely on a conventional display. That makes a used or new disc a sensible purchase for someone interested in the campaign, visual upgrade, and extra modes but not in headset play.
What PS4 VR requires
The PlayStation Store listing states that PlayStation VR and PlayStation Camera are required for the VR features. Neither accessory should be assumed to be included with the game. If you are assembling a setup from scratch, the game is only one part of the cost and hardware requirement.

- PlayStation VR headset.
- PlayStation Camera.
- A television or display for ordinary console operation and setup.
The store also warns that VR may cause motion sickness for some players. The cockpit viewpoint can feel more intense than the ordinary third-person camera, so treat VR as an optional presentation mode and use the comfort settings and breaks appropriate to your own tolerance.
PS4 on PS5
Sony’s store listing marks the game as playable on PS5 but cautions that some PS4 features may be absent. For VR use, a PlayStation Camera adaptor is required to connect the PS4 camera to a PS5. Sony also recommends a DualShock 4 controller for the best PS VR experience on PS5. These qualifications matter: buying the PS4 disc or digital license does not guarantee that every PS4 feature behaves identically on the newer console.

If you own a PS5 and intend to use VR, confirm that you have the required camera connection solution before buying specifically for headset play. If you only want flat-screen play, the compatibility warning is still worth checking, but it is less likely to affect your decision than the VR hardware requirement.
What the PC and Steam version offers
Why PC may be the better fit
PC/Steam is the natural option if your main library is on Steam, you prefer keyboard-and-controller flexibility, or you want to play away from a PlayStation console. Konami identifies PC and Steam as supported platforms, and its launch announcement specifies PC distribution through Steam.
The available official information does not establish current PC system requirements, supported graphics cards, operating-system details, or a complete headset compatibility matrix. Do not infer those specifications from the game’s age or from another version. Before purchasing, open the current Steam listing and compare its requirements with your computer, then check whether your intended VR headset and runtime are explicitly supported.
Questions to answer before buying on Steam
- Does your PC meet every minimum requirement shown on the current Steam page, including the operating-system and graphics requirements?
- Does your preferred controller work with your setup, and will you be using a monitor or a headset?
- If VR is the reason you are buying, does the current listing identify your headset and its required software runtime?
- Are you comfortable with a digital Steam purchase rather than a documented physical PC release?
Because those live specifications can change and are not established in the official pages summarized here, a PC buyer should verify them at the point of purchase rather than rely on a generic “modern PC” assumption.
How the VR mode changes the game
A cockpit viewpoint instead of third-person action
Konami describes ordinary 4K action as third-person and the enhanced VR mode as placing the player in Jehuty’s cockpit. That is a meaningful change in presentation, not merely a larger screen. You look out from inside the machine while the surrounding action is rendered for headset viewing.

VR does not turn M∀RS into a separate multiplayer game or a new campaign. It is an alternative way to experience the remastered material. If you are buying for story and combat only, the standard display is sufficient. If the fantasy of sitting inside Jehuty is the main attraction, verify the hardware requirements before selecting the platform.

Konami’s additional VR material includes a 3D hangar where you can interact with Jehuty, a 3D model viewer, and a cinematic theater that unlocks after completing the game. These features are separate from the normal campaign progression and are best viewed as presentation and gallery additions.
Cygames identifies Versus as the two-player mode and notes that the VR version does not support two players. Do not buy the headset version expecting to play the Versus mode as a two-person VR experience. Multiplayer expectations should be based on the non-VR mode’s availability, not on the presence of a VR option.
Remaster features beyond resolution
Visual and audio treatment
Konami describes native 4K visual treatment, remastered visual and audio elements, and surround sound. These are the principal presentation upgrades over earlier releases. “Native 4K” is Konami’s description of the remaster’s visual treatment; it should not be read as a promise that every display, console mode, or PC configuration will output the same resolution in every circumstance.
New options for playability
The remaster adds several practical options:
- Pro Mode: an optional control arrangement intended to make sub-weapon selection faster.
- Very Easy: a lower-difficulty setting for players who want a more forgiving route through the campaign.
- Training modules: dedicated practice material for learning systems and combat.
- Mini-map: an added navigation aid during play.
These additions make the remaster more approachable without changing the fact that its core identity is fast mech combat. A returning player can use Pro Mode and the mini-map to reduce friction, while a newcomer can select Very Easy and spend time in the training modules before tackling the main game.

Physical PS4 copies: what is established and what is not
Konami’s May 15, 2018 launch announcement documented a limited-time physical PS4 release for the Americas. It described a holographic cover and an embroidered patch packed in the box, and stated that the promotion covered the Americas while excluding Brazil. The same announcement gave a September 4, 2018 release date in the Americas and September 6, 2018 global release date.
That announcement proves that a physical PS4 edition existed at launch. It does not prove that copies are currently in stock, that a seller’s disc is new, that the patch is still included, or that every regional package uses the same contents. Availability, price, disc condition, language options, and packaging should be checked in the individual listing before purchase.
Checklist for a used or collectible copy
- Confirm the listing is for the PS4 version, not another Zone of the Enders release.
- Check the seller’s region and whether the disc is compatible with your account and console setup.
- Ask whether the holographic cover and embroidered patch are actually present if those extras matter to you.
- Inspect disc condition, case damage, and whether the seller accepts returns.
- Remember that a physical copy does not include a PlayStation VR headset or Camera.
Which version should each type of buyer choose?
Buy PS4 if you want the clearest VR path

Skip VR if you only want the remastered campaign
There is no requirement to own a headset for ordinary play. Choose the platform that gives you the preferred display, controller, and ownership format, then treat VR as an optional enhancement rather than a prerequisite.
A practical buying process
- Decide whether VR is essential. If the answer is no, compare PS4 flat-screen play with PC/Steam based on your existing hardware and preferred storefront.
- For PS4 VR, inventory your accessories. Confirm that you have PlayStation VR and PlayStation Camera. For PS5 use, confirm the camera adaptor and controller arrangement as well.
