007 First Light now reportedly has a Performance mode on Xbox Series S, giving players a higher-frame-rate option alongside Quality mode. In a first look, Pure Xbox says the new preset appears to run at roughly 50–60FPS in most of its footage, with reduced graphical settings. That is an observed range, not a locked 60FPS guarantee.
What the new Series S Performance mode offers
Pure Xbox reports that the Performance option appeared on Series S in recent days. The outlet’s first look describes the graphics as noticeably reduced and estimates that the frame rate hovers around 50–60FPS for most of the footage it observed. It recommends a variable refresh rate (VRR)-capable display as a good fit for the mode.
The practical trade-off is straightforward: Performance prioritizes smoother motion over the visual settings used by Quality. The report does not identify which settings changed, specify the mode’s resolution, or establish how consistently it performs throughout the full game. Its frame-rate estimate should therefore be treated as an early observation, not a measured result or developer specification.
Why the option came as a surprise
Launch-era coverage had described the Series S version as running at 30FPS with no alternate mode. In May 2026, Pure Xbox summarized Digital Foundry’s analysis as saying IO Interactive had preserved visual systems such as lighting and volumetrics within the console’s memory and GPU limits rather than removing them to target 60FPS.

The newly reported option marks a change from that earlier mode setup, but the available report does not explain how IO Interactive achieved it or what compromises the new preset makes beyond its reduced graphical settings.
How the Performance option may have gone unnoticed
Pure Xbox says the mode was added in recent days. It also reports that the notes for the previous week’s free DLC patch referred to an update for Series X and were worded incorrectly, which may help explain why the Series S change initially escaped notice. The report does not name a patch number.

What Series S players should take from the first look
- Choose Performance if smoother motion is more important to you than the higher visual settings of Quality.
- Expect some variation: Pure Xbox’s footage suggests a range around 50–60FPS, not a fixed 60FPS throughout play.
- A VRR-capable display may help accommodate a variable frame rate, as Pure Xbox recommends, but the report does not provide display-specific testing.
- Do not assume a particular resolution or list of downgraded settings; neither is specified in the first-look coverage.
What is established about the game
IO Interactive describes 007 First Light as a third-person action-adventure that blends stealth and action, and tells a standalone, reimagined origin story for James Bond. The studio lists Xbox Series X|S among its platforms and gives May 27, 2026 as the release date. See the official FAQ and the game announcement for the studio’s descriptions.
