2025 FPS releases worth knowing
1. DOOM: The Dark Ages — for a solo action campaign
PlayStation describes DOOM: The Dark Ages as a single-player action FPS prequel to DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal. Its dark fantasy and science-fiction setting makes it the clearest pick here for players seeking a focused campaign rather than an online competitive game. The PlayStation page lists May 15, 2025 as its PS5 release date and describes a customizable difficulty system.

2. Battlefield 6 — for large team battles
Battlefield 6 is the list’s team-play candidate: its appeal is large multiplayer battles, varied weapons, and maps, as highlighted in GamesRadar’s year-end coverage. GamesRadar placed it first in its featured 2025 FPS list, an editorial judgment rather than an objective ranking. EA’s official page calls it “BATTLEFIELD 6: BEST FPS OF 2025” and the “best-selling shooter of 2025”; those are the publisher’s own promotional claims, not an independently verified award or statistic.

- PLAN YOUR ASSAULT Equipped with all-new equipment, each highly replayable contract can be completed in a variety of ways. Replay the mission with a different approach to complete all objectives, ready to spend your earnings on improved gadgets and weaponry.
- UPGRADED VISUALS Contracts 2 introduces new levels of fidelity, with optimized visuals, improved FPS, and an enhanced game engine, resulting in the best looking entry to the series yet. 3. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 — for a major series release
Activision lists Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 as a first-person shooter released November 14, 2025. Its page names PC and console platforms, including Xbox and PlayStation storefronts, and Game Pass. Check the current store or service listing for the platform and subscription conditions that apply to you.
Established FPS choices by play style
These are useful alternatives if “for 2025” means games to play during the year, not just games released in it. Their inclusion does not make them 2025 releases.

- Crysis Remastered Trilogy includes each of the single-player campaigns from the legendary first-person shooters Crysis, Crysis 2, and Crysis 3
- optimized for today's hardware
- Relive the adventure in this great value all-in-one bundle.
4. Destiny 2 — for shooter action with online RPG elements
PlayStation categorizes Destiny 2 as a free-to-play shooter blended with online role-playing elements. That combination suits players interested in ongoing character progression alongside shooting, rather than a self-contained campaign alone. Free-to-play describes the access model, not necessarily every piece of content or purchase within the game.

5. Apex Legends — for a hero-shooter battle royale
PlayStation describes Apex Legends as a hero shooter and battle royale. It is the fit for players who want squad-based online matches built around distinct characters, rather than a conventional solo story.

- Says I'm A FPS Gamer Like A Normal Gamer Only Much Cooler and makes an awesome gaming gift for a man or woman who plays videogames.
- 8.5 oz, Classic fit, Twill-taped neck
6. Overwatch — for team-based hero-shooter matches
PlayStation characterizes Overwatch as a 5v5 hero shooter. Its team format makes it a different recommendation from a battle royale: the focus is coordinated team play around hero abilities.
7. Borderlands 4 — for co-op looter-shooter play
TechRadar’s current FPS guide treats Borderlands 4 as a looter shooter with a co-op campaign. Consider it if loot collection and playing a story campaign with others matter more than ranked competitive matches. Its appearance in a current guide does not establish that it belongs on a list restricted to games released during 2025.
Rank #4
- Team up in intense 8-player co-operative gameplay
- Compete in objective-based PVP matches with up to 20 players
- Get immersed with realistic ballistics and stunning attention to detail
- Fully customize your character and weapons
- Unprecedented audio design with positional voice-chat for a heart-pounding atmosphere
8. Valorant — for deliberate tactical competition
TechRadar categorizes Valorant as a tactical shooter. It is the option here for players who prefer deliberate competitive rounds over a fast-moving campaign or a large-scale battle.

10. A second pick from the 2025 releases: choose by mode
There is no single evidence-backed tenth game that fits every reading of this title. If you mean releases from 2025, the confirmed releases named above—DOOM: The Dark Ages, Battlefield 6, and Black Ops 7—are the specifically supported shortlist here. If you mean games to play during 2025, the established options above cover RPG-shooter, battle royale, hero-shooter, co-op looter-shooter, and tactical-competitive play. TechRadar and PlayStation offer broader editorial lists, but their recommendations are judgments, not measured rankings. This avoids treating a preview or a current recommendation as proof of a game’s 2025 release status.

- Want tactical competitive rounds? Look at Valorant or Counter-Strike 2.
- Want co-op and loot progression? Borderlands 4 is the looter-shooter example in TechRadar’s guide.
- Want shooter play with online RPG elements? PlayStation describes Destiny 2 in those terms.

Why this is not an objective top ten
FPS covers materially different experiences: a single-player campaign, tactical competition, a hero shooter, a co-op looter shooter, and large team battles are not interchangeable. The cited guides from PlayStation and TechRadar use editorial categories and recommendations; GamesRadar’s year-end list is likewise an editorial ranking. They help identify candidates, but do not establish a universal winner or a common scoring test.
For a strict “released in 2025” list, keep the scope to confirmed releases and verify each game’s date and platform on an official listing. For “best to play in 2025,” include older live games too, but judge them by the mode and experience you want. PC Gamer’s 2025 FPS preview reflects pre-release expectations, so it should not be read as a retrospective account of what ultimately released.
