The closest games to Split Fiction are Hazelight’s It Takes Two and A Way Out, with co-op platformers, puzzle adventures, and broader teamwork picks beyond them.

If you want another couch co-op story game after Split Fiction, start with It Takes Two: it is the closest match in studio, two-player focus, and split-screen adventure design. A Way Out is the other natural Hazelight pick. The rest of this list broadens out into platforming, puzzles, frantic teamwork, and a much larger role-playing campaign—so the best choice depends on whether you want a similar story or simply another game to play together.

Split Fiction is a two-player co-op action-adventure from Hazelight. EA lists it for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, with local co-op and online Friend’s Pass play; its official page says an online friend can join across platforms when one player owns the game. These recommendations are grouped by how closely their co-op structure matches, not presented as an objective quality ranking. Platform and mode availability can differ by game and system, so check the current storefront before buying.

The closest Hazelight co-op adventures

These are the strongest starting points if you want a designed-for-two adventure with a story, rather than merely a game that supports multiple players.

1. It Takes Two

It Takes Two is the closest follow-up to Split Fiction: both are Hazelight co-op adventures built around two players sharing a changing sequence of challenges. PlayStation lists couch and online split-screen play. EA’s Friend’s Pass information says an owner can invite a friend online, and the pass can also let both players try the first chapter. Check the requirements for your particular platform and online service before arranging a session. See EA’s It Takes Two page and PlayStation’s listing.

#1 Best Overall
Overcooked! + Overcooked! 2 (Nintendo Switch)
  • Get ready for a double helping of cooperative cooking as Overcooked! And Overcooked! 2 come together in chaotic Harmony.
  • Overcooked! Play solo or engage in classic, chaotic couch co-op for up to four players in both co-operative and competitive challenge modes.
  • hold onto your aprons… it's time to save the world (again!)
  • Chop, Fry and serve your way through a series of unconventional kitchens. Play with over 20 chefs in 75 levels across both games!
  • includes the base game for both Overcooked! And Overcooked! 2

Best for: pairs who want another tightly coordinated, story-led Hazelight adventure, either on the couch or online.

2. A Way Out

A Way Out is Hazelight’s other clear studio match, and PlayStation describes it as an exclusively co-op adventure. That makes it a natural choice if the shared campaign matters more to you than matching Split Fiction’s variety of platforming and action. The available source does not establish current platform support or detailed play modes, so check the listing for your system. See EA’s A Way Out page.

Best for: players looking for another co-op-first Hazelight story, rather than a solo game with multiplayer added on.

Cooperative platforming and puzzles

These games share the appeal of communicating, experimenting, and solving obstacles together, but their tone and structure differ from Split Fiction.

Rank #2
Gang Beasts - Nintendo Switch
  • Gang Beasts is a silly multiplayer party game set in the mean streets of Beef City with surly gelatinous characters, brutal slapstick fight sequences, and absurd hazardous environments
  • Customize your characters with hundreds of colorful costumes
  • Experience hilarious and gelatinous ragdoll physics
  • Play locally or online with up to 8 players
  • Experience Local Wireless Multiplayer, exclusively on Nintendo Switch

3. Unravel Two

Unravel Two is a gentler platform adventure about two linked characters. PlayStation confirms that it supports solo play and local co-op; that listing does not establish online co-op, so treat it as a couch option unless your platform’s current store says otherwise. See PlayStation’s Unravel Two page.

Best for: a pair who want a quieter, local platforming adventure built around cooperation.

4. Portal 2

Portal 2 is the puzzle-first pick. Its distinct two-player co-op campaign asks partners to communicate and solve spatial problems, rather than move through a varied action-adventure story. It is a strong fit if the part you liked most in Split Fiction was working out how to get past a challenge together. GamesRadar’s co-op guide includes its two-player puzzle campaign; check your platform’s store for current availability and mode details.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Best for: puzzle-solving pairs who enjoy talking through a plan more than following a story-driven platforming campaign.

5. Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy

Best for: groups who want a fantasy platform adventure and room for more than one partner.

6. Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is another platforming alternative to consider for local play. The available evidence does not establish its player count, supported platforms, or full mode details, so confirm those on the current storefront before choosing it for a particular group.

Teamwork without the same story-adventure format

These picks shift the emphasis from a shared platforming narrative to coordination, escape-room puzzles, or a broad role-playing campaign.

7. Overcooked! All You Can Eat

Overcooked! All You Can Eat turns teamwork into a hectic coordination challenge: its appeal is keeping tasks moving under pressure, not exploring a story like Split Fiction. Team17 lists campaign, survival, and practice modes, online play, enhanced 4K visuals, and an assist mode. The assist option offers a way to adjust the experience for players who want less pressure. See Team17’s game page.

Best for: friends or family who want short, chaotic rounds of communication and coordination rather than a narrative campaign.

8. Escape Academy

Escape Academy is a possible puzzle-oriented alternative for players interested in solving escape-room-style challenges together. Its current co-op modes and platform support are not established here, so verify the exact setup on your system’s store before buying.

Best for: pairs whose favorite part of co-op is solving puzzles together, provided the available version supports their intended play arrangement.

9. Cat Quest II

Cat Quest II is a broader co-op alternative for players open to a lighter role-playing adventure instead of a two-character platforming campaign. Current player count, supported platforms, and local or online options are not established here; check the storefront listing for those specifics.

Best for: players who want to try a co-op RPG and are flexible about how closely its format resembles Split Fiction.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

10. Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 is the broadest departure on the list: it offers a story-rich role-playing campaign, not a compact two-player platforming adventure. GamesRadar’s 2026 co-op guide describes online and local split-screen configurations, but compatibility can depend on platform. Consult the current store listing for your system before planning a campaign. GamesRadar’s co-op guide provides further context.

Best for: players whose main priority is a substantial shared role-playing campaign, even if its pace and structure are far removed from Split Fiction.

Which game should you choose?

If you want… Start with Why
The closest Hazelight follow-up It Takes Two Another Hazelight adventure designed around two-player cooperation, with couch and online split-screen listed by PlayStation.
Another co-op-first Hazelight story A Way Out PlayStation describes it as exclusively co-op.
A gentle local platformer Unravel Two Solo and local co-op are confirmed by PlayStation.
Two-player puzzle solving Portal 2 Its co-op campaign centers on solving puzzles together.
More players in a fantasy platform adventure Trine 5 The official site says up to three friends can join locally or online.
Pressure-filled coordination Overcooked! All You Can Eat Campaign, survival, and practice modes focus on cooperative task management.
A much bigger role-playing campaign Baldur’s Gate 3 A broader story-rich RPG, with local and online co-op configurations described in GamesRadar’s 2026 guide.

For a game night that must work on a specific console or online service, platform compatibility and the exact co-op mode should decide the final choice. Check each game’s current listing, especially for titles whose player count or local-versus-online options are not confirmed above.
