Using that broader definition, three games make a well-supported starting list: Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Firewatch, and Gone Home. The first two have male protagonists; Gone Home fits the ordinary-people theme but not the literal “guy” wording.
What counts as a “normal guy” game?
This list focuses on protagonists who begin as ordinary people in their setting, without a defining superpower or chosen-one status. That does not mean the plot must stay mundane: a blacksmith’s son can be swept into war, and a fire lookout can find his summer job turning unsettling. A quieter exploration story can also fit the broader idea of ordinary people, even if its protagonist is not a man.

Games with ordinary protagonists
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Henry is a blacksmith’s son whose life is upended by civil war, according to the PlayStation game description. His humble origins make this the clearest fit for players who want to begin as someone without a superhero identity or chosen-one status. The story grows into a war-torn RPG adventure, so expect extraordinary events rather than an ordinary-life simulation.

In Campo Santo’s official description, you play as Henry, a man who takes a summer job as a fire lookout in Wyoming. The setup gives the story a grounded working-person perspective, while Henry’s growing questions about what is happening around him push it beyond a routine job story. It is a single-player, first-person narrative game.

Gone Home
Annapurna Interactive describes Gone Home as a story exploration game about investigating a seemingly normal house. It is nonviolent and puzzle-free, making it the quietest, least action-oriented fit here. Its protagonist is not a man, so choose it for the ordinary-people and familiar-setting angle rather than a strict “play as a guy” interpretation.
