The right pick depends on what you want to change: your decisions, your route through the world, or the challenge itself. The ending totals below come from GameSpot’s 2025 roundup, not official developer counts, and are not directly comparable because each game defines an ending differently.
How these games make a second playthrough worthwhile
Some games branch around consequential decisions; others hide routes and conclusions until you explore more deeply. A third kind changes the journey through New Game Plus or randomized content. Those are different promises: procedural variation can make a new run feel fresh without offering another main-story ending.

Games with major story branches and ending variations
Detroit: Become Human
Best for: Players who want choices to reshape scenes and story paths. Decisions can open some branches and close others, so a replay can reveal substantially different sequences rather than merely a different final scene. GameSpot’s 2025 roundup counts 85 endings; that is the publication’s editorial count, not a developer-published statistic.

Baldur’s Gate 3
Best for: Players who want role-playing decisions to echo across a long campaign. Choices can lead to ending variations and consequences that surface much later, making a different character approach a reason to revisit more than the finale. GameSpot’s 2025 roundup describes three main endings with major variations and estimates around 17,000 possible ending combinations. The larger figure refers to combinations, not 17,000 wholly separate authored endings.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Best for: Players who want decisions to affect the fates of characters and the wider world. A new run can change outcomes across the story, although not every difference amounts to a wholly distinct ending. GameSpot’s 2025 roundup gives an editorial count of 36 endings and notes that some differences are slight.

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy
Best for: Players ready for an extensive branching narrative. Routes explore different genres, giving later runs the potential to change not only the conclusion but the kind of story being told. GameSpot’s 2025 roundup describes 100 full endings; this is its count, not an official developer statistic.
Games built around hidden routes and discoveries
Chrono Trigger
Best for: Players who want a classic RPG whose New Game Plus opens the door to alternate conclusions. GameSpot’s 2025 roundup counts 12 main “good” endings, or 13 when later platform-exclusive content is included, plus a bad ending and minor endings. The total therefore depends on which version and categories are counted.
Rank #4
- Learn the ways of the Assassins and seek vengeance for the betrayal of your family
- Journey through 15th-century Renaissance Italy and become the most legendary leader of the Brotherhood, then embark on a final quest of discovery as you learn the truth about the Creed
- Includes enhanced features for the Nintendo Switch system, such as HD Rumble and more
Hollow Knight
Best for: Explorers who enjoy finding optional paths and digging deeper into a world. Additional discoveries can reveal further conclusions, making a replay appealing if your first journey left corners unexplored. Nintendo includes Hollow Knight among games with multiple endings, while GameSpot describes deeper discoveries as the route to additional conclusions.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Best for: Players who like exploration that can transform their understanding of a familiar map. An early ending is not the end of the game’s larger hidden path: exploring further opens a much fuller finale, as GameSpot describes in its 2025 roundup. The payoff comes from finding what a first, more direct journey can miss.
