There is no official Obsidian ranking of the ten best weapons in Grounded. The rankings you may find online are editorial or community opinions, not publisher-endorsed orders. This guide explains how to judge a weapon ranking, what the official update notes actually establish, and how to choose what to upgrade without mistaking an opinion list for an official one.
Is there an official ranking of the best Grounded weapons?
No official top-ten list was identified in the publisher sources reviewed. Obsidian’s update notes describe weapon types, crafting and upgrade systems, and balance changes; they do not rank weapons against one another. A creator’s tier list is that creator’s opinion, while GroundDB/Lootseer describes its rankings as independent and unaffiliated with the publisher.

That distinction matters for the exact title “Grounded: 10 Best Weapons, Officially Ranked”: calling any particular ten-weapon order official would imply Obsidian endorsed it. The evidence does not support that claim, so this article does not invent a top ten or attribute one to the publisher.
What the official sources establish
Combat balance changed in update 1.3
Obsidian’s Grounded 1.3 update notes say the first two hits of a combo deal 100% damage each and the third deals 125%—a 25% bonus over the first two. The update also says charged attacks were boosted for nearly every weapon and that critical damage gained a base chance even without specific critical-hit effects. As a result, older comparisons may not reflect the current balance described in those notes.

Weapons and upgrades span different stages of progression
Obsidian’s 1.0 release notes describe tier-three weapons upgraded to +9 using supreme upgrade materials. They also introduce three candy-shard staves, each with its own attack style. An earlier official update, “The Time Has Come to Go Into the Wood”, identifies the Termite Axe and Black Ox Hammer as tier-three weapons. These are progression and equipment details, not evidence that one weapon outranks another.
How to decide which Grounded weapons are best for you
“Best” depends on what you need a weapon to do and how far you have progressed. A useful comparison should make its assumptions clear rather than presenting a universal order as fact.
- Progression and access: Consider when you can obtain and craft a weapon, and the effort or risk involved. A powerful late-game option may not help much if you need something for an earlier stage.
- Combat performance: Evaluate damage alongside attack speed, stun, combo and charged attacks, and practical utility. A single damage figure cannot capture how a weapon performs in play.
- Matchup and build: Enemy weaknesses and resistances, weapon type, mutations, and upgrade path can affect which choice is useful. A ranking should identify the matchups and build assumptions behind its recommendations.
- Investment and mode: Upgrade level, game version, difficulty, and whether the comparison covers the base game or New Game+ all affect the result. A list that omits these details is difficult to apply to a specific save.
Obsidian’s patch notes support the balance changes above, but they do not supply a complete, weapon-by-weapon comparison under a shared test setup. They therefore cannot substantiate precise DPS claims, matchup rankings, or a definitive top ten.

Check who made the list and what it actually represents. CDiinky’s 2025 weapon tier list identifies its placements as the creator’s opinion. GroundDB/Lootseer’s weapon rankings are an independent reference, not an official Obsidian ranking. Either may help you find community perspectives, but neither establishes a publisher-approved order.
