The right choice depends on the kind of fear you want—and on which games are currently included with your plan.
This is a US-focused guide to ten distinct horror and horror-adjacent experiences highlighted by PlayStation. How to choose a horror game on PS Plus
Start with the format and scare style. A solo survival game puts pressure on your resources; a branching story makes choices part of the tension; an online slasher depends on other players; and VR changes the experience more substantially than a standard screen. The picks below cover those different tastes rather than claim to be a measured ranking.

PlayStation’s US PS Plus A–Z catalog is the place to check what is included now. Search for the exact game and confirm the displayed subscription tier and platform. A Store product page or an older PlayStation Plus article by itself does not establish current subscription availability. Catalog membership can change, and availability may differ by region.
#1 Best Overall
- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
10 horror and horror-adjacent PS Plus picks
1. Dead Space — sci-fi survival horror
Choose Dead Space for isolated, science-fiction survival horror. It is the most direct fit here for players seeking a hostile setting and a survival-focused experience rather than a story built around group choices or online matches. PlayStation included it in its 2024 horror selection; that historical mention does not confirm its current US catalog status or tier.
2. Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! — psychological horror beneath a visual novel
Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! initially presents itself as a visual novel, then turns toward psychological horror. Its contrast between the surface format and the unsettling material makes it a good fit for players who prefer unease and narrative surprises over conventional survival combat. PlayStation listed it in its 2024 selection; check the live US catalog for inclusion and tier.
3. Resident Evil 2 — survival horror
Resident Evil 2 is a recognizable survival-horror choice for players who want a tense, story-led game. PlayStation’s 2024 feature included it, while its 2025 Halloween guide also discussed Resident Evil classics in the Premium Classics context. Those references are historical and do not establish which edition, if any, is currently available to US subscribers. Verify the exact listing before choosing a download.
Rank #2
- A dark, enthralling 4-5 hour narrative to keep you hooked and guessing until the end. Gorgeous visuals as you traverse numerous and diverse environments, presented with a cinematic, film-like aesthetic. Ranged and melee combat with upgradeable weapons to help you survive your nightmarish journey.
- A stellar voice cast, starring Valerie Rose Lohman (What Remains of Edith Finch, Wolfenstein: Youngblood), Jonah Scott (Dying Light 2: Stay Human, Date Everything), and Aleks Le (Persona 3: Reload, Marvel Rivals, Ghost of Yotei).
- A beautifully dynamic and haunting soundtrack composed and performed by Jacob Noska, and Jonah Henthorne: members of the band Auric Echoes.
- The puzzles you encounter are more than your standard key hunt. Project Songbird rewards those with an eye for detail, making each puzzle a challenge of creativity and wits.
- The combat of Project Songbird offers a variety of approaches inspired by the classics of the survival horror genre. Melee and gunplay is slow and weighty, and ammo is incredibly scarce. However, combat isn't your only option, as you have a multitude of tools at your disposal to aid in sneaking past any creatures that wish to do you harm.
4. Inscryption — card strategy with horror elements
Inscryption blends deck-building with a disturbing narrative and horror-inflected atmosphere. It suits players who want to engage with a game’s systems as well as its unsettling presentation, rather than play a conventional action-horror title. PlayStation named it in its 2024 horror feature; current catalog status and tier need to be checked separately.
5. Dead by Daylight — multiplayer slasher
For a group, Dead by Daylight offers asymmetric multiplayer: four survivors try to escape one killer. PlayStation’s features describe it as a 4v1 game and note bot-driven practice. It is the pick on this list built around repeated matches and other players, not a solo story campaign. Its appearance in PlayStation horror coverage does not guarantee that it is currently included with a US PS Plus plan.
6. Dredge — eerie exploration, not straightforward horror
Dredge is an atmospheric fishing adventure with unsettling elements. PlayStation explicitly cautions that it “isn’t strictly a horror game,” so treat it as a lighter, more exploratory option rather than a substitute for survival horror. It appeared in the 2024 PlayStation feature; confirm live subscription availability and tier.

- Roam the cursed lands: Awaken as consciousness itself in a realm of death, a world consumed by Necrophosis. Explore freely through its dark macabre landscapes where all things rot and decay eternally. Navigate eerie landscapes, grotesque architecture and haunting visuals that bring Lovecraftian and cosmic horror to life.
- Uncover hidden truths: Delve into evocative narrative poems and unravel the world’s enigmatic backstory while engaging with decayed gods caught in an eternal cycle of death and rebirth.
- Master chilling puzzles: Solve unsettling puzzles as you explore a world consumed by rot. Certain challenges demand brain detachment and possession, while others rely on careful observation. Face gods, eldritch entities, and Lovecraftian beings who have taken refuge here, learning their histories and the horrors they embody. Each environment features minimalist, droning ambience, layered with whispers, distant groans, and echoing cryptic voices that heighten tension and unease.
- Second Awakening: Return to the realm of death in the Necrophosis: Subconsciousness expansion. Explore new landscapes, entities, and story as your journey leads ever deeper. Includes Bonus Game – The Shore: Andrew ventures into the unknown to find his lost daughter, exploring a forbidden island of nightmarish entities and solving puzzles that test his sanity.
- Languages: English in-game voice. English, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Traditional Chinese, and Ukrainian in-game text.
7. The Last of Us Part I — infected-world action-adventure with horror elements
The Last of Us Part I combines an infected-world setting and horror elements with action-adventure storytelling. It is a useful choice if you want a character-focused journey in a threatening world, rather than a game that is horror in every moment. PlayStation’s 2024 selection included it, but that does not verify its present catalog status.

Until Dawn is a one-player slasher story about eight friends returning to an isolated lodge, with choices that can affect who survives. PlayStation’s US Store page describes the PS5 rebuild, released October 4, 2024, as adding environments, collectibles, re-cut narrative sequences, an over-the-shoulder camera, and a reauthored score. The rebuild is listed for PS5; whether it is included with a particular PS Plus plan is a separate, time-sensitive question. Check the live catalog rather than assuming that a Store listing means subscription access. View the official US PlayStation Store page for Until Dawn.
9. Silent Hill 2 — psychological survival horror
Silent Hill 2 is the psychological survival-horror option in PlayStation’s October 2025 Halloween guide. It fits players looking for dread and a story-driven horror experience. The guide reflects its publication-time lineup, not a guarantee of availability on October 7, 2026; confirm the exact edition, platform, and tier in the US catalog.

- Solve a Deadly Mystery: What begins as a small-town murder investigation rapidly spirals into a nightmare journey. Uncover the source of the supernatural darkness in this psychological horror story filled with intense suspense and unexpected twists.
- Play As Two Characters: Experience both Alan Wake’s and Saga Anderson’s stories and see events unfold from different perspectives. Switch between Anderson’s life-or-death race to solve the case and Wake’s desperate attempts to rewrite his reality to escape the depths of the Dark Place.
- Explore Two Worlds: Experience two beautiful yet terrifying worlds, each with its own rich cast of characters and deadly threats. Discover majestic landscapes of Cauldron Lake in the Pacific Northwest and the idyllic towns of Bright Falls and Watery. Contrasting sharply, attempt to escape the nightmarish cityscape of the Dark Place.
- Survive With Light: With limited resources, take on powerful supernatural enemies in desperate close-combat situations. It takes more than just a gun to survive: light is the ultimate weapon in the fight against the darkness and will be your refuge when enemies threaten to overwhelm you.
- The physical version of Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition includes the following: ● Alan Wake 2 physical game. ● The Night Springs and Lake House expansions. ● Deluxe Edition cosmetics and items: Nordic Shotgun Skin for Saga, Crimson Windbreaker for Saga, Celebrity Suit for Alan, Parliament Shotgun Skin for Alan, and Lantern Charm for Saga. ● Alan Wake Remastered (Digital Edition - included as a gift with purchase DLC on a voucher).
10. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution — VR survival horror
This is the VR pick: PlayStation’s 2024 feature identifies it as a survival-horror game for virtual reality. It is only relevant if you have the compatible VR platform and the game is included for your plan. The historical feature does not establish current PS VR2 or other platform availability, or a current US subscription tier; check the catalog listing carefully.

For branching stories and shared play
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan is a branching horror story. PlayStation’s October 2025 guide describes couch co-op for two to five players and an online Shared Story mode for two. These are useful distinctions if you want to play with friends, but the guide’s lineup is not proof of current catalog inclusion.

Best Value
- Take The Shape of Evil: Target, stalk, and terrorize the residents of Haddonfield as the iconic Michael Myers.
- Become a Hero of Haddonfield: Arm yourself with weapons and everyday household items to fend off the impending evil, alert the authorities, and rescue the innocent families of Haddonfield.
- Experience the Ultimate Horror Sandbox: An expansive array of dynamic map features, distinct gameplay systems, life-like NPC interactions, and player abilities elevates the horror sandbox like never before.
- Singleplayer Slashing: Immerse yourself in the haunting narrative events of "The Night He Came Home" through the eyes of Michael Myers in a standalone singleplayer story.
- Elevated Asymmetrical Multiplayer: Cooperate with up to four players as the Heroes of Haddonfield and face off against the one and only Michael Myers in unpredictable multiplayer matches unfolding within a living, breathing game world.
For gothic action or horror-adjacent atmosphere
V Rising offers gothic vampire action-RPG gameplay, while Days Gone takes a zombie open-world action approach. Killer Frequency focuses on puzzle-driven murder-mystery, and Crow Country uses a retro survival-horror style. These alternatives broaden the mood and format beyond traditional survival horror; their mention in the October 2025 feature does not confirm current membership.
Check PS Plus availability before you install
- Open the official US PS Plus games catalog.
- Search the exact title and edition. Similar names, remakes, and classic releases may have different listings.
- Confirm that the listing says the game is included with a subscription, then note the required tier. A purchase option in the PlayStation Store is not the same as subscription inclusion.
- Check the listed platform—PS4, PS5, or PS VR2—and make sure it matches the device you plan to use.
- Recheck close to download time. PlayStation Plus catalog selections can change, and a title featured in an older editorial guide may have left the catalog or moved to a different tier.
PlayStation’s official features are useful for identifying genres and play formats, but their catalog labels belong to the dates on which those pieces were published. The October 2025 announcement described that month’s lineup as bringing “plenty of thrills for spooky season”; it was not a statement of ongoing availability. See the October 2025 catalog announcement, the 2024 horror selection, and the October 2025 Halloween guide for their original context.
