ARK: Survival Ascended has several useful controls and systems that are easy to overlook, from creature tracking and quick inventory access to a no-cost building plan. Here are ten features worth checking, with platform and content requirements called out where known. Controls can change between patches and bindings, so confirm them in your current game settings.
Quick-access and navigation features
1. Quick inventory
On PC, the community-maintained ARK Official Community Wiki reports that holding Q opens quick inventory, with 9 and 0 used to navigate. This can provide a faster route to inventory actions than repeatedly opening menus. Treat those keys as reported defaults, not universal controls: check your current keybindings, and do not assume the same inputs apply on console. ARK Official Community Wiki overview.
2. Map coordinates and zoom
The map supports coordinates and zooming, useful for reading your position and examining a wider or narrower area while navigating. These are map functions; the available description does not establish that the map can place arbitrary player-made markers. ARK Official Community Wiki overview.
3. Tamed-creature tracking
The tamed-creature tracker can show a tamed creature’s location on the map. It is specifically a creature-tracking aid, not a general tracker for wild dinosaurs or every object in the world. Check the current interface and map behavior in your game. ARK Official Community Wiki overview.

- ARK: Survival Ascended has completely recreated and redesigned the artwork and worlds of ARK to take advantage of the latest in videogame technology, Unreal Engine 5, using high-end graphics features such as fully dynamic Global Illumination (“Lumen”), so that light bounces realistically of off surfaces and provides realistic reflections, and advanced mesh streaming (“Nanite”) of hundreds of millions of triangles for extreme detail.
- Advanced new physics systems such as dynamic water so that every creature creates waves, ripples, splashes, and bubbles as they move through fluids, and fully interactive physical foliage where every blade of grass, bush, and tree reacts to characters, explosions, projectiles, and physics objects.
- ARK: Survival Ascended includes access to all of ARK’s worlds, including Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction, ARK Genesis Part 1, ARK Genesis Part 2, and more. The Island is released now, with the subsequent expansion worlds to be added at no additional cost on a regular basis.
- Thorough Quality of Life revamps in every area: redesigned User Interfaces, dynamic navigation for intelligent creature pathfinding, Wild Babies, Photo Mode, new Camera systems, new Map system, Tracking System, new Structures and Items, new Creatures, and much more.
- Cross-Platform Modding: Download & play new custom content created by players, including new maps, creatures, items, and game modes, through a dedicated new Mod-bowser directly within the game! Enjoy an endless stream of new ARK content as the creativity and talent of the community is fully unleashed for the first time ever across gaming platforms!
4. Third-person camera-distance adjustment
The wiki reports that holding Left Alt on PC adjusts third-person camera distance. This is useful when you want a closer or wider view without changing perspective. The reported key is PC-specific; confirm the binding in your settings rather than applying it to console. ARK Official Community Wiki overview.
5. Pings
ASA’s overview lists pings among its quality-of-life features, giving players a way to call attention to something in the environment. The available documentation does not establish a current input mapping, so check your platform’s controls for the ping command rather than relying on a guessed button. 6. Planning Mode
Planning Mode lets you lay out structure holograms before committing resources. Studio Wildcard’s March 6, 2026 notes say the holograms do not consume materials, can be seen by tribe members, and can be built over; layouts can also be converted into templates. The notes give the entry controls as holding R on PC or X/Square on controller while placing a structure. Use it to map out a base or coordinate a tribe build before construction. These controls and availability reflect the documented update; verify they apply to your current patch and platform. Studio Wildcard patch notes.
7. Cargo Ledger
The Cargo Ledger provides one interface for viewing and withdrawing items and resources stored across nearby containers. Its key limitation is proximity: the notes describe nearby storage, not remote access to every container you own. Availability can also depend on the relevant map, content, or structures, so check what the feature requires in your current game. Studio Wildcard patch notes.

Map- and content-specific systems
8. Ships
Studio Wildcard’s patch notes document ships as part of specific map or content updates. This is not a universal feature to expect on every map: check the notes and in-game options for the map you are playing before planning around ship access. Studio Wildcard patch notes.
9. Shipyards
Shipyards are another content-specific system identified in the official notes. Their usefulness depends on having access to the associated content and structures; they are not a general-purpose crafting station available across all ASA maps. Studio Wildcard patch notes.

10. Aquatic compartments
The notes also describe aquatic compartments among the newer systems tied to particular content. Check the relevant map or expansion requirements before treating them as part of a standard build toolkit. Studio Wildcard patch notes.

- On PC: check keybindings for quick inventory, camera-distance adjustment, and Planning Mode; the Q, 9/0, Left Alt, and R inputs above are reported controls, not guaranteed bindings.
- On controller: the March 2026 notes list X/Square for Planning Mode while placing a structure. The other controls should be checked in your current console settings.
- For navigation: use map zoom and coordinates for orientation, and the tamed-creature tracker when searching for a tamed animal.
- For a tribe base: try Planning Mode for shared layouts, then check whether Cargo Ledger is available and whether the required containers are nearby.
- For map-specific content: confirm ship, shipyard, or aquatic-compartment availability on the map and content you are actually playing.
