10. EverQuest and EverQuest II anniversary expansions

Bandai Namco’s Blue Protocol was described as an action MMO set in Regnas, with cel-shaded visuals and five classes. The preview discussed intended platforms and 2024 expectations, but it is not a retrospective record of where or when the game became available.
8. Once Human
Once Human was framed as a post-apocalyptic survival MMO in which players would scavenge for uncontaminated food, water, and other supplies. The article expected a full release by the end of 2024; it did not verify that forecast as an outcome.

7. Throne and Liberty

6. Path of Exile 2

The ranked preview referred to the next chapter before its reveal. MMORPG.com’s later 2024 expansion overview identified it as Gold Road and described its setting as Skingrad and West Weald. 4. Guild Wars 2’s planned 2024 expansion
At the time of the preview, the expansion had not yet been named. It was expected to begin a new story following the Elder Dragon Saga. MMORPG.com’s wider overview likewise placed Guild Wars 2 among a crowded slate of major planned MMO expansions that year.
3. Soulframe
Digital Extremes’ fantasy-oriented MMO project was described as featuring deliberate melee combat and an invite-only “Preludes” alpha. The article speculated about a late-2024 possibility; it did not report a confirmed launch date.
2. Dune: Awakening
Based on Frank Herbert’s novels, Dune: Awakening was presented as an open-world game blending survival play with MMO elements on Arrakis. The preview pointed to ornithopters, stillsuits, and sandworms shown in trailers, while noting that a firm release date was not set. 1. World of Warcraft: The War Within
The list placed The War Within first and gave August 26, 2024 as its date. It highlighted a level-cap increase to 80, four new regions, Hero Talents, Warbands, and Delves. MMORPG.com’s expansion overview also identified it as one of the year’s major planned expansions.

The ranking placed unlike choices side by side. A chapter or expansion extends an existing game; a new project or sequel asks players to enter a different world or return to a series in a new form. Their play styles varied too: the list included action combat, top-down role-playing, survival scavenging, shooter combat, superhero customization, and large-scale PvPvE.
Release certainty also varied. The preview supplied specific dates or windows for some entries, while others had no firm date or were described with explicit uncertainty. A date or window in a 2024 anticipation article is a statement about the schedule at that moment, not proof that a particular platform and territory received the game on that date.
How this fit into the wider 2024 expansion slate
MMORPG.com’s January 23 overview, updated May 9, 2024, placed the ranked list’s expansions in a broader announced slate. It included Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail; World of Warcraft’s retail The War Within and Classic Cataclysm; the planned EverQuest and EverQuest II expansions; The Lord of the Rings Online’s planned continuation of Corsairs of Umbar; Black Desert Online’s Seoul addition; EVE Online’s aim to launch two expansions; and The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road.
This context shows how many established MMOs had expansion plans on the calendar; it does not establish that each forecast happened on schedule. Joseph Bradford, writing for MMORPG.com, put the question to readers this way: “What are you most excited about this year? Which Expansion are you eager to try on day one?”
