For standalone Quest 2, focus on BONELAB’s mod.io content: SDK-made maps, avatars, and spawnable items can be installed on Quest as well as PC. Code mods that use MelonLoader are PC-only. The ten picks below are historical recommendations from 2022, not a newly tested or ranked list; check each mod’s current page for platform files, game-patch support, author notes, and file size before downloading.
How to read this list: standalone Quest 2 versus PC VR
“Quest 2” here means running BONELAB directly on the headset, using the Android build. A Quest connected to a PC with Quest Link is running the PC version, so it can use PC-only options that are unavailable when playing standalone.

BONELAB’s built-in mod.io route supports SDK content—including maps, avatars, and spawnable items—on both PC and standalone Quest. MelonLoader code mods change game behavior and require the PC build; a standalone Quest 2 cannot run them. The installation guide describes browsing and installing mod.io content in-game, or subscribing on the website and syncing at launch, while MelonLoader mods are distributed through Thunderstore. There is no reliable basis here for calling these a current “best” ranking. The picks are drawn from Fossbytes’ October 2022 roundup, so treat them as ideas to investigate rather than confirmed current downloads. Its article noted that the full San Andreas map had Quest 2 performance problems and described LabWorks as a work in progress at that time. Neither observation establishes the mods’ present state. GTA San Andreas map
The 2022 article specifically warned of performance problems with the full map on Quest 2. That is a historical caution, not a current benchmark; check for an updated or reduced version and read the listing’s platform notes before installing on standalone Quest.

A campaign-style port inspired by Boneworks. The original roundup called it a work in progress in 2022. The current mod.io catalogue still includes a listing called LabWorks Boneworks Port, but catalogue presence alone does not establish its completeness, quality, or compatibility with a particular build.

What to verify on a mod page before downloading
- Platform file: For standalone Quest 2, look for an Android build or a clear Quest-compatible note. Windows files are for PC. A Quest-optimized tag can help with discovery but does not guarantee smooth performance on every headset.
- Game patch: Check whether the author names a supported BONELAB patch or build. A mod’s presence in the catalogue does not prove it works with the version currently installed.
- Content type: Distinguish SDK maps, avatars, and spawnables from saves and PC-only code mods; their installation routes and platform requirements differ.
- File size and performance: Compare the file size with available headset storage and read author notes, especially for large maps. Quest 2’s mobile hardware makes performance worth checking rather than assuming from a PC listing.
- Maintenance and rights: Look for update dates and author instructions. Free downloads do not by themselves establish rights to third-party characters or map material; the available sources do not settle those permissions.
Individual pages show why checking the listing matters. Marrow Waterpark Patch 6 lists Android and Windows files; its page records a June 24, 2024 date and file sizes of 38.35 MB for Android and 44.18 MB for Windows. Skate 3 Mega Park [Patch 6] is marked Quest Optimized, says Quest 2 tested, and lists Android and Windows files. These are examples of the information a mod page may provide, not endorsements or evidence that all mods with similar labels perform alike.
Where to find Quest-compatible BONELAB mods
The BONELAB mod.io Quest Optimized catalogue is a useful starting point for standalone Quest browsing. Its large number of entries reflects catalogue breadth, not a vetted top-ten list or a guarantee that every mod suits your device. Open each mod’s page to confirm the file, patch, size, and author notes. For PC-only code mods, use the separate MelonLoader route described in the installation guide; do not expect those mods to run on standalone Quest 2.
