What “VR games for Android” means here

Check your phone and viewer before installing
Google’s Cardboard setup page states Android 4.1 or higher as the phone OS minimum, but that is a setup requirement—not a guarantee that every current game runs on every phone. Google also says a gyroscope may be needed and directs users to check compatibility with their chosen viewer. The practical checks are:
- Confirm that the phone fits the viewer and that the viewer supports its dimensions.
- Check whether the phone has a gyroscope.
- Look at the game listing for gaze-only play, a viewer button, touch controls or an external controller requirement.
- Check the listing’s update date and current availability on your device.
- For coaster experiences, consider whether artificial movement is suitable for you; comfort varies by person.
Set up Cardboard-style phone VR
- Install the Cardboard app from Google Play.
- Open Google’s Cardboard setup flow and scan the QR code on your viewer to pair it with the phone.
- Insert the phone into the viewer and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Install a game and confirm its control method and compatibility in its current store listing.
Google’s Cardboard app listing says a viewer is needed to fully enjoy the app. A controller is not universal: the listings for VR Space Game and Vr Games Hub say their experiences can be used without an external controller.

Phone VR is not the same as Android XR—or PC VR streaming
“Android VR” can also be used loosely for newer standalone headsets. Google’s April 7, 2026 Android XR update covers headset experiences and apps made for XR; those are a separate category from a phone inserted into a Cardboard-style viewer.

Consider it only if you already have a PC VR setup and are looking for a streaming route.
Why this is a shortlist rather than a proven ranking
The available evidence supports four picks with useful listing details and six additional titles whose current features are less clear. It does not verify ten universally compatible games or establish a tested order of quality.
