Games focused on characters and homes
1. The Sims 4 — best for character-led stories and home design
Choose The Sims 4 if the household is the main attraction. EA highlights Build Mode tools for layouts, furnishings, and terrain, alongside travel between distinct neighborhoods. The Gallery lets players share or download creations, giving you a way to borrow a build or see what other players have made. See EA’s The Sims 4 overview.
2. Paralives — best for flexible building in a newer Sims-like life sim
Paralives combines home design with customizable characters, work, relationships, skills, and life in an open-world town. It launched in Early Access on May 25, 2026, so the recommendation comes with a meaningful caveat: its Steam description warns that bugs, balance issues, and missing content may remain. The developers describe their aim as offering a new take on life simulation through flexible building, character customization, and new gameplay mechanics. Read the Paralives Steam description.
3. inZOI — best for a full Sims-style sandbox
PC Gamer describes inZOI as a broad life-simulation sandbox with a character creator, building, weddings, pregnancy gameplay, and an open world with drivable cars. It began in Early Access, and the cited coverage notes that it still needed development. Its current release state and supported platforms can change, so check the game’s store listing before buying.
