Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

However, “free” does not always mean permanent ownership. A promotion may give you a game to keep, provide access only while a subscription is active, offer a free weekend, or simply be a free-to-play release.
This guide separates those categories so you know what you are actually receiving. Use official storefronts, publisher pages, and authorized distributors only; cracked executables, torrents, key generators, and unauthorized mirrors are not legitimate alternatives.

What “free” means here
A paid PC game is being offered legally for free when it normally has a purchase price and the developer, publisher, storefront, or authorized distributor makes it available at no cost through an official channel.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
There are four different kinds of free access:
- Free to keep: claiming the promotion adds a license to your account permanently.
- Subscription access: you can play while a paid membership remains active.
- Free trial or weekend: access ends after a set period unless you buy the game.
- Free-to-play: the base game is permanently available, often with optional purchases. This is not the same as a paid game giveaway.
Storefront licenses are not copyright ownership. “Permanent” means the account entitlement normally remains available under the platform’s terms—not that the publisher has transferred the underlying intellectual property to you.

1. Epic Games Store — best for permanent weekly giveaways
Epic is the clearest match for “paid PC games free legally.” The store advertises a new free PC game every Thursday at its free-games page. Epic’s support documentation says that a weekly game claimed during its promotion remains in your library permanently, even if you do not download it immediately.
You need an Epic account, and most PC games require the Epic Games Launcher. Some titles also require a separate publisher account. The offer is time-limited, regional availability can differ, and the page may also show demos or free-to-play releases. Look for the actual free-game claim rather than assuming every “free” listing is a permanent giveaway.
Best for: recognizable commercial games without a subscription. Main drawback: you must claim the game before the promotion ends and accept another launcher.

GOG is especially useful if you prefer DRM-free downloads, offline installers, classic PC games, and less dependence on a proprietary launcher. Its giveaway page is worth monitoring for occasional permanent promotions.
Most GOG games are paid, so this is not a store where commercial games are always free. DRM status and installation requirements should still be checked on the individual product page. A DRM-free edition can usually be installed from an offline installer, but compatibility and multiplayer features vary by title.
Best for: offline use and preservation-minded buyers. Main drawback: free claims are less predictable than Epic’s weekly schedule.
3. Amazon Prime Gaming — best if you already have Prime
Prime Gaming periodically includes full games and in-game content with an Amazon Prime membership. Redemption may use Amazon Games, GOG, Epic, or another platform, so read the individual offer carefully.
This is “free with Prime,” not free for everyone. Some promotions are full games, while others are cosmetic items, currency, or other downloadable content. Claims also have deadlines. If you already subscribe to Prime, the gaming benefits can be useful; subscribing solely for occasional games is a different value calculation.
Best for: current Prime members who want rotating extras. Main drawback: the membership costs money and redemption instructions change by title.

- Cool While Gaming: In conjunction with an ARGB fan Air Cooler, the Codex R2 features four system cooling fans; three in the front and one in the rear to pull in cool air and push heat out of the PC.
- Turn on the Bright Lights: With the built-in RGB lighting, take your gaming experience to the next level by pressing the MSI LED button to cycle through lighting options. Customize lighting even further with MSI Center software.
4. itch.io — best for free indie games
itch.io’s free-games section contains freeware, game-jam projects, prototypes, experimental releases, and commercial indie games temporarily offered at no cost. Its pay-what-you-want model also lets developers distribute games for zero dollars.
Many downloads are direct and do not require a proprietary launcher. That makes itch.io valuable for niche genres, short games, horror, and unusual experiments. The trade-off is less standardized quality, documentation, support, and update history than on major commercial stores.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Download from the developer’s official itch.io page, inspect comments and update information, scan unfamiliar files, and avoid mirrors or downloads that ask you to disable antivirus protection.
Best for: independent and experimental games. Main drawback: “free” does not guarantee polish, ongoing support, or a launcher-free experience for every project.
5. Humble — best for bundles and occasional free promotions
Humble is primarily a discount and bundle store, but it sometimes runs free promotions. Its bundles can be a better alternative when a game is not currently free, and products may include Steam keys, DRM-free downloads, or both depending on the listing.
Humble Choice is subscription access and should not be presented as permanent ownership of every included game. Key availability, redemption platform, and regional restrictions vary.
Best for: readers willing to pay little for large collections. Main drawback: it is not a dependable source of permanently free paid games.
6. Steam — best for free weekends and publisher promotions
Steam has a huge catalog, reviews, system requirements, and frequent free-play events. Its free-to-play category is useful for permanently free multiplayer games, while free weekends let you test normally paid titles for a limited time.
A free weekend usually ends when the event does. Some promotions may convert into permanent access, but the individual offer must say so. A Steam game can also require a third-party launcher or publisher account.

- Power Supply: 550W 80PLUS Bronze certified power supply ensures stable and energy-efficient operation
Best for: trying a paid game before buying it. Main drawback: temporary access is easy to mistake for ownership.
7. Microsoft Store and Xbox PC — best for Windows integration
The Microsoft Store’s free PC games section includes free-to-play games, demos, trials, and selected promotions. The Xbox app integrates the Windows and Xbox account systems and is also the access point for PC Game Pass.
Microsoft Store licensing and installation can be more restrictive than a DRM-free storefront, and availability differs by region. Microsoft Rewards may help offset a future purchase, but rewards are not the same as receiving a free paid game.
Best for: Windows users who prefer Microsoft’s ecosystem. Main drawback: installation, licensing, and publisher-account requirements vary considerably.
8. Xbox PC Game Pass — best subscription value
PC Game Pass is one of the most economical legal ways to play a large catalog of normally paid PC games, but it does not give you permanent ownership. The official U.S. page listed the plan at $13.99 per month at the research date; prices and catalogs can change.
Access ends when the subscription expires or when a title leaves the catalog. Downloading a game does not preserve access after cancellation or removal. The service requires Windows 10 or 11 version 22H2 or later and the Xbox app. Some games require additional accounts or launchers. The plan also includes EA Play benefits and member discounts, subject to the current plan and title rules.
Best for: playing many games in a month or year. Main drawback: it is access, not permanent ownership.
9. Ubisoft Store and Ubisoft Connect — best for publisher trials
Ubisoft periodically offers free trials, free weekends, demos, and promotional access through its free-games page and free PC games page.
These promotions are legitimate and can provide short-term access to major franchises, but they are irregular and usually do not create a permanent license. Ubisoft Connect may be required even when a title was acquired through another storefront. Check the terms before starting a trial, particularly if you care about saves or progression.

Best for: sampling Ubisoft games. Main drawback: trials are not free-to-keep claims.
10. EA — best for EA trials and free-to-play releases
EA’s official ecosystem offers free-to-play editions, demos, trials, and occasional promotional access. Some sports, shooter, and multiplayer titles have free versions, though features may differ from the paid editions.
Many offers require an EA account and the EA app. EA Play is a paid subscription, so it belongs in the subscription category rather than the genuinely free category. Check whether a promotion includes the full game, a time-limited trial, multiplayer access, or only selected content.
Best for: trying EA releases without an immediate purchase. Main drawback: most access is limited or account-dependent.

Game Jolt hosts independent, fan-made, retro-style, experimental, and horror games, many of which can be downloaded legally at no cost.
It is not a reliable source of current commercial AAA games. Because individual uploads vary in quality and maintenance, use the developer’s page, review the download details, and avoid suspicious mirrors. Fan projects can also have limited support or copyright and trademark restrictions.
Best for: unusual community releases. Main drawback: greater variation in quality and security than established commercial storefronts.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.12. Official publisher promotions and free-game portals
Publishers sometimes distribute older games, demos, and free weekends through their own stores. Useful pages to monitor include Bethesda, Battle.net, the Rockstar Games Store, and Riot Games. Blizzard’s game catalog is another source of legitimate free-to-play releases.
Recommended Free Tools
This is a monitoring strategy, not a guaranteed giveaway site. Promotions are unpredictable, may require a separate publisher account or launcher, and can change by country. Many “free” listings are free-to-play games rather than formerly paid games.

How to claim a limited-time game safely
- Start at the platform’s official free-games or promotion page.
- Sign in or create an account.
- Confirm that the price is $0.00 or that the offer explicitly says it is free to keep.
- Choose Get, Claim, Add to library, or the equivalent button.
- Complete the zero-dollar checkout if required.
- Verify that the game appears in your account library.
- Install through the official launcher or download the official installer.
- Save the confirmation email or library record for important claims.
- Check the expiry date, region, launcher, and publisher-account requirements before assuming access is permanent.
How to recognize scams
Do not use sites offering “free Steam keys” in exchange for surveys, browser extensions, executables, or personal credentials. Avoid cracked versions, torrents, leaked keys, key generators, DLC unlockers, password-protected archives, and download buttons that pass through multiple advertising pages.
Be especially cautious when a site asks you to disable antivirus software or enter card details for an offer that supposedly has no recurring service. Check the domain spelling and navigate from the publisher or storefront’s own website instead of trusting a random search result. Official distribution lowers risk, but no download source makes every file or account interaction automatically safe.

Free-to-play releases such as Fortnite, Valorant, League of Legends, and Warframe are legitimate permanent downloads, but they should not be counted as paid games being given away. - Awareness of regional licensing, age ratings, and end dates.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are free Epic Games really free to keep?
A weekly Epic game claimed during its promotion is generally added to the Epic account library permanently. Claim it before the deadline and verify that it appears in the library; downloading it immediately is not required.
Is Prime Gaming free?
Prime Gaming is included with an Amazon Prime membership, so it is not free for someone who does not already subscribe. Individual game claims may be permanent, while the redemption platform and deadline vary.
Can I keep PC Game Pass games after canceling?
No. PC Game Pass provides subscription access. A game becomes inaccessible when the membership ends or when the title leaves the catalog unless you purchase it.
Recommended Free Tools
Are GOG games DRM-free?
GOG strongly emphasizes DRM-free games, but check the individual product listing because installation, multiplayer, and account requirements can vary by title.
Do all free Steam games require Steam?
Steam-distributed games normally require Steam for installation or account access, and some additionally require a publisher launcher. Check the specific game page.
Can I download paid games without a launcher?
Sometimes. GOG’s offline installers and selected itch.io downloads are the strongest options, but launcher-free availability must be confirmed for each title.
