These 12 games are strong picks for an older or budget PC, but “low-end PC” is not a defined hardware tier—and no single list can guarantee they will run well on every computer. Treat these as genre-spanning recommendations, then check each game’s current requirements against your own PC before buying. Steam cautions that meeting a game’s minimum requirements does not guarantee high frame rates or strong performance.

This is an editorial shortlist, not a benchmark ranking: the games have different genres and hardware demands, and they have not been tested against one shared PC. Use the descriptions to find a game that suits you, then check its current system requirements.

Stardew Valley
A cozy farming and life simulation game. Its published Windows minimums are comparatively modest: a 2 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM, 256 MB video memory with Shader Model 3.0+, DirectX 10, and 500 MB of storage. Terraria
A 2D sandbox adventure built around exploration, crafting, and building. Steam lists Windows minimums of a 2.0 GHz processor, 2.5 GB memory, 200 MB of disk space, and a 128 MB video card supporting Shader Model 2.0 or greater. Its listed Windows versions are legacy; that line alone does not establish compatibility with the current Steam client, which supports Windows 10 and later. Check Terraria’s current Steam listing.

Minecraft
An open-ended building and exploration game. Its launcher and online support have a specific current OS caveat: since March 2025, Windows 10 or macOS 10.15 or later has been required for online play and continued Launcher updates. How to tell whether a game will run on your PC
Compare the game’s current minimum requirements with your computer’s actual processor, memory, graphics hardware, operating system, and available storage. A broad label such as “budget computer” is not enough: two inexpensive PCs can have very different components, and requirements vary by game and platform.

Check your PC’s CPU, installed RAM, graphics hardware, OS version, and free disk space. Compare each one with the listed minimum; do not compare only the processor or memory.

Confirm that the operating system and any required game launcher are still supported. A game’s older requirements page may list an OS that the current launcher no longer supports.

Use minimum specs as a starting point, not a promise of smooth play. Steam notes that meeting minimum requirements does not ensure high FPS or strong in-game performance.
What to try if performance is poor
Steam suggests reducing shader detail and trying windowed mode when using integrated graphics. These settings may help, but they cannot make an unsupported game or incompatible PC configuration reliably playable. If performance remains poor, compare your hardware with the game’s requirements again and check that you are using the correct edition and current support information.
