TechRadar’s January 1 list of 14 anticipated games ranges from strategy and stealth to horror, racing and underwater survival. It is an editorial selection by named writers—not a poll, sales chart or objective ranking—so the reasons below reflect their tastes and assessments.
What makes this a watchlist, not a ranking
TechRadar’s feature, by Dashiell Wood with contributions from Jake Green, Rhys Wood and Rob Dwiar, mixes established franchises, sequels, remasters and new properties. Some picks drew on hands-on experience; others were games the writers wanted to try. The feature gives no consistent scoring system, so its order should not be read as a measured comparison of quality or audience demand.

Choose what to follow by genre and platform
For strategy and large-scale battles
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 are the strategy picks in the slate. The former is listed for Switch 2; the feature does not state a platform for the latter.
For horror, survival and darker action
Resident Evil Requiem, Subnautica 2, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, The Duskbloods, Control Resonant and Romeo is a Dead Man make up the darker or action-oriented side of the selection. The list spans a known horror series, underwater survival, a new property and follow-ups to existing worlds. TechRadar lists The Duskbloods for Switch 2; its feature does not state platforms for the other games in this group.

How firm are the release dates?
The January feature uses different levels of certainty: it gives some games a specific date, others only the year, and several a “TBC 2026” window. A title appearing on a 2026 list is not a guarantee that it will launch during that year. In particular, do not treat January’s timing as a current schedule without checking a newer publisher announcement.
The GamesRadar calendar published October 7, 2026 lists Grand Theft Auto 6 for November 19 on PS5. That page is a PS5-focused release calendar, not a complete cross-platform confirmation. It also lists Hela for December 1, 2026, but Hela was not one of TechRadar’s 14 picks.
