Best Stalker 2 PC Settings: How to Boost FPS in Heart of Chornobyl

There is no one best Stalker 2 PC setup. Start with GSC’s official targets, test one change at a time, and check for CPU limits or update-related mod issues.

There is no universally best graphics setup for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl: the right settings depend on your hardware and whether the game is limited by your CPU or GPU. A sensible starting point is GSC Game World’s official target of High settings at 1440p and 60 FPS, then adjust one option at a time and compare the same gameplay scene. The minimum target is Low at 1080p and 30 FPS—not a guarantee for every location or PC.

Start with the official PC targets

GSC Game World’s Steam PC requirements describe target configurations rather than guaranteed results in every scene.

Target Graphics and resolution Target frame rate Memory
Minimum Low, 1080p 30 FPS 16 GB dual-channel RAM
Recommended High, 1440p 60 FPS 32 GB dual-channel RAM

The requirements also call for an SSD and 160 GB of available storage. The SSD is an installation requirement; it is not evidence that a faster drive will raise your frame rate. GSC says its specifications were tested with TSR, DLSS, FSR and XeSS, but does not name one best upscaler for every system.

How to tune settings for your PC

  1. Choose a realistic target. Compare your CPU, GPU and memory with the official target closest to the resolution and quality level you want. If your system is below it, begin with the lower target rather than expecting a single setting change to close a large performance gap.
  2. Set your display resolution and a suitable preset. Start at your display’s native resolution with a preset your hardware can handle. If performance falls short, test an upscaler supported by your system—TSR, DLSS, FSR or XeSS. The official requirements do not prescribe a universal upscaler or quality mode.
  3. Compare like with like. Play through the same repeatable stretch of gameplay after each change. Include movement through foliage and a populated or visually dense area, and note both frame rate and image clarity. PC Gamer reports that the game has no built-in benchmark, so this is a practical comparison, not a standardized test.
  4. Change one option at a time. Record what you changed and whether it helped. That makes it easier to identify a useful trade-off and undo changes that reduce image quality without improving performance.
  5. Check for a CPU limit before lowering image quality further. If a lower rendering resolution or more aggressive upscaling barely changes performance, the processor may be limiting frame rate. In PC Gamer’s 4K Performance-mode tests with an RTX 5090 and RTX 3060 Ti, the game was mostly CPU-limited. That result describes its test setup, not every player’s PC.
  6. Test without mods after an update-related problem. If stuttering or instability began after a game update, disable mods and check again before adding other tweaks. GSC specifically recommends this when performance or stability problems follow an update.

Balance upscaling, image quality and performance

Choose an upscaler based on how it performs on your hardware and how the image looks in the scenes you play. Check fine detail such as foliage and cables, as well as frame pacing; a higher reported frame rate is not the only consideration. Upscaling or frame generation should not be treated as a universal replacement for adequate base performance, and the available evidence does not establish a universal configuration or threshold.

PC Gamer’s January 2026 comparison used near-identical gameplay runs because there is no built-in benchmark. In those tested scenes, it found that DLSS 4.5 handled fine detail in telephone cables and foliage better than DLSS 4, while the newer transformer model also had a performance cost. Those observations predate the currently listed Patch 2.0.6 and are specific to the outlet’s test scenes and system; they do not establish a general frame-rate uplift or a recommendation for every PC. See PC Gamer’s DLSS 4.5 comparison for its test context.

Check the current patch and mod status

The official Steam announcements page lists Patch 2.0.6, dated September 18, 2026, as the latest update in its captured listing. GSC describes it as a minor crash-fix patch, including backported fixes for several AMD GPU-related crashes and other high-priority crashes. Patch information can change, so check the announcement page for newer updates before troubleshooting a current installation. The developer warns that mods may not withstand updates and advises disabling them if performance or stability issues appear after an update.
