The best pick changes if you want a player to develop rather than one rated highly from the start, so this shortlist separates established options from younger prospects instead of pretending all 15 form a definitive database ranking.
Here, “currently” means available in the FM24 database, not current real-world club or transfer status. Ratings and recommendations below are attributed to their dated guides; they are in-game assessments, not real-world performance statistics.

The strongest consensus lead in the available current-ability material: Dot Esports puts him first, while Sortitoutsi’s current-ability list also names him among players with a perfect natural AML rating. He is the safest answer if you need one name for an established left-wing choice.
2. Neymar
Dot Esports lists a potential of 95 alongside a current rating of 88. Treat that as the guide’s game value, not a prediction about real-world development. Sortitoutsi also names him in its current-ability shortlist.

- Heung-Min Son and Phil Foden: both have an 85 current rating in Dot Esports’ table; Foden’s listed potential is higher (90 to Son’s 86).
- Jack Grealish and Rafael Leão: each is listed at 82 current and 88 potential.
- Luis Díaz, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Kingsley Coman, and Raheem Sterling: each is listed at 81 current. Their potential values range from 85 for Coman to 90 for Sterling.
These are the remaining names in that guide’s established-player top ten, not a claim that their suitability or value is identical in every save.

Current ability and potential answer different questions
A current-ability list is aimed at who is strongest now in the database; a potential-focused list is aimed at who may develop into a stronger option. Sortitoutsi describes its list as current-ability based and restricted to players natural at AML. FM Scout’s wonderkid guide, updated April 10, 2024 for patch 24.4, uses high potential ability and age at the start-of-save reference date, and says its ratings are the author’s recommendations rather than official game rankings.

Position labels and versatility matter
A natural AML fit is not the same filter as a young-player list that includes footballers able to play several positions. FourFourTwo’s FM24 left-winger section includes a broader cohort, among them Ansu Fati, Kendry Páez, Rayan Cherki, João Rego, Sávio, Andreas Schjelderup, Mikey Moore, Sergey Pinyaev, Nico Paz, Gonçalo Moreira, and Naci Ünüvar. Some listed players cover multiple positions, so check a player’s role fit in your save rather than assuming every list uses the same positional test.
Save context can change development expectations
FM Scout notes that some potential values are presented as ranges; a range does not guarantee the same outcome in every save. Initial club, age, and potential details published in FM24 guides describe their source-era database snapshots. They should not be read as current real-world biographies or a guarantee of how a player will develop in a particular save.

How to choose the right player for your save
- Need quality now? Start with Vinícius Júnior, the guide’s top-ranked option, then compare the other established names by their listed current ratings.
- Building for later? Consider the five prospects above, but use the save’s player information and your own squad needs to judge fit; the cited material does not provide directly comparable current ratings for them.
- Need a natural left winger? Check whether the player is natural at AML, since some guides use that as a filter and others include versatile players.
- Planning a signing? Do not treat historical save-start estimates as guaranteed prices. The available guidance does not establish current transfer costs, wages, or ease of signing for this shortlist.
