Check that your PC has enough available storage for the listed requirement. Steam advises comparing system specifications with a game’s requirements; a PC near the minimum may have launch or performance problems. Meeting the listed requirements does not establish that every configuration or software setup will work.
2. Restart Steam and your PC
Close Steam, restart Windows, then reopen Steam and try launching the game. This is a basic check for a temporary client or system issue, not a confirmed cure for every Elden Ring startup problem.
3. Verify Elden Ring’s installed files in Steam
Use Steam’s built-in verification if files may be missing or damaged. Steam says this feature checks that game files are installed correctly.

In its 2 October 2024 Version 1.15 notes, Bandai Namco said Ray Tracing may be unintentionally enabled in some PC versions and can cause unstable performance. If you can reach the game’s settings, check System > Graphics > Ray Tracing Quality. This is specific to the condition described in those notes; it is not a universal launch fix.
5. Consider whether the “Inappropriate activity detected” message appeared
The same Version 1.15 notes connect file verification with an “Inappropriate activity detected” message that may appear without cheating. If you see that exact message, try Steam’s file verification above. Do not infer that the message proves cheating occurred.

6. Close third-party mouse-control applications as a test
Bandai Namco’s Version 1.15 notes say third-party applications that control mouse behavior may cause unstable frame rate and that deactivating them may help. If you use such software, close it and test the game. The note concerns unstable frame rate; it does not establish that mouse software is responsible for every failure to launch.
7. Retest after recent changes, one at a time
If the problem began after a driver, mod, peripheral, or related software change, test without the most recent change where practical, then launch again. PlayStation and Xbox: use platform-specific guidance
