The best offline multiplayer games for Android depend on what “offline” means for your group. Some support two players sharing one screen and need no connection; others require separate phones linked over local Wi-Fi, a hotspot, or Bluetooth. A game advertised as multiplayer does not necessarily include an offline local mode, so check its current listing and test that mode with mobile data off before you rely on it.

What counts as offline multiplayer on Android?

If each player has a phone

How to prepare games to play without internet
- Install and update while you have internet access. An offline game still needs to be downloaded first, and the roundup guidance notes that regional availability varies.
- Read the mode description, not just the genre label. Look for explicit wording such as same-device two-player, local Wi-Fi, hotspot, LAN, or Bluetooth.
- Confirm the number of supported players and devices. A game that supports two players may still require two phones, while a pass-and-play game may need only one.
- Check the full cost. A free download can include ads, in-app purchases, or paid unlocks. For example, DUAL! says a one-time in-app purchase unlocks the full game.
- Test the exact setup before leaving. Turn mobile data off and try the local mode with the devices and connection you plan to use. For Wi-Fi play, connect devices to the same local network or hotspot; for Bluetooth, pair and launch the mode in advance.
Common offline-play problems
- The game opens but local play is unavailable: the selected mode may require an internet connection, or the game may offer multiplayer only online. Recheck the listing and in-game mode labels.
- Devices cannot find each other over Wi-Fi: make sure both are on the same local network and that you are using the game’s local mode. A hotspot is a possible local-network setup, but support depends on the game and devices.
- Bluetooth pairing does not lead to a match: pairing alone does not guarantee the game supports Bluetooth multiplayer. In DUAL!, Bluetooth is explicitly beta and not guaranteed across devices.
