What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Before changing Windows, confirm what is actually failing:
- Which program appears in the error: If it is Araxis Merge,
2057.dllis probably its UK English language-resource module. If another program is named, investigate that program instead. - When does it happen: Note whether the message appears when launching Merge, after an update, after disk cleanup, or immediately after an antivirus scan.
- Where is the executable: Right-click the shortcut, select Properties, and check the Target field. This helps identify whether an old shortcut is launching a removed Merge installation.
- Which Windows architecture is installed: Open Settings → System → About and check System type.
- Is the DLL in the application folder: Look in the Araxis Merge installation directory, not only in
C:WindowsSystem32orC:WindowsSysWOW64.
2057.dll is associated with Araxis Merge, developed by Araxis Ltd. Its description is “Araxis Merge UK English language resources.” It is not established as a Windows system DLL or a Microsoft runtime component.

The safest first fix: repair or reinstall Araxis Merge
A missing or damaged application installation is the most likely cause. Repairing or reinstalling Merge restores the executable and its matching language resources together, which is safer than copying one DLL from elsewhere.
Try Windows app repair first
- Close Araxis Merge.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for Araxis Merge.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, Modify, or Repair, depending on what Windows displays.
- Allow the repair to finish.
- Restart Windows.
- Start Araxis Merge again.
If Windows provides a repair option, it may restore missing files without removing your application settings. If there is no repair option or the error remains, use the traditional repair path:
#1 Best Overall
- 1. COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS 11, 10, 8.1 & 7 Designed for compatible 64-bit PCs and laptops that support USB booting. Works with Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 installation and recovery options.
- 2. INSTALL, REINSTALL & REPAIR Provides access to installation and recovery options for startup failures, boot errors, system crashes, failed updates, system repair and reinstallation. Results depend on the condition of the computer and the cause of the problem.
- 3. READY-TO-USE BOOTABLE USB Reusable installation and recovery media that helps eliminate the need to download large system files or create bootable media yourself. Insert the USB drive, open the computer’s boot menu and select the appropriate installation or recovery option.
- 4. HELP KEEP OLDER PCS USEFUL Refresh, reinstall or maintain a compatible older computer before deciding whether replacement is necessary. Suitable for home computers, office workstations, PC enthusiasts and technicians who regularly work with supported systems.
- 5. IMPORTANT COMPATIBILITY & LICENSE INFORMATION Supports compatible 64-bit computers with UEFI or Legacy BIOS USB booting. No Windows license, activation key or product key is included. Activation may require an existing digital license or a separately purchased valid product key. Back up important files before installation or repair.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select Araxis Merge.
- Choose Change or Repair, if available.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test Merge.
A successful repair should let Merge open normally without the 2057.dll message. It should also place the file in the same coherent installation directory as the Merge executable.
Reinstall from Araxis
If repair is unavailable or fails, reinstall the matching Araxis Merge release.
- Close Merge.
- Save any work and close other applications.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find Araxis Merge.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Complete the removal.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the Windows installer from the official Araxis Merge download page.
- If you use an older licensed release, use Araxis’s historical Windows release information instead of assuming the newest installer accepts every older serial number or operating system.
- Run the installer.
- Start Merge from the newly installed shortcut.
Araxis also documents installation through Windows Package Manager. From an administrator Windows Terminal or Command Prompt, the documented package command is:
Recommended Free Tools
winget install --id Araxis.Merge
Use the official installer or the documented WinGet package rather than a standalone DLL download.
If the installer fails, do not repeatedly copy files into the application directory. Follow Araxis’s installation troubleshooting procedure and preserve any installer logs before contacting Araxis support.
Check whether the shortcut points to the wrong installation
A reinstall can appear not to work when Windows is launching an old shortcut.
- Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, inspect Target.
- Confirm that the target points to the current Araxis Merge installation.
- Select Open File Location if the button is available.
- Check whether the executable and its supporting files are in the same installation directory.
- Remove the stale shortcut and create a new one from the current installation if necessary.
The expected association for 2057.dll is the Araxis Merge application directory. A historical example places it below a path such as:
C:Program FilesAraxisAraxis Merge2057.dll
That is an example of an application location, not a universal path for every release or installation choice.
Understand the exact error wording
Windows may display different messages depending on what happened:
- “2057.dll was not found” usually means the loader could not find the file in the locations relevant to the program.
- “The code execution cannot proceed because 2057.dll was not found” generally indicates that Merge or another executable requested the missing resource.
- “2057.dll is missing from your computer” is another form of the same missing-file condition.
- “2057.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error” can indicate corruption, an architecture mismatch, an incompatible file, or a dependency problem.
The last message does not prove that Windows owns the file. It also does not mean that downloading a different copy will solve the problem. Reinstall the matching Araxis Merge release so the executable and resource DLL come from the same package.
Check antivirus quarantine before restoring anything
If the file disappeared after a security scan, Windows Security may have quarantined it.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
2057.dllor the Araxis Merge installation. - Expand the event and review its location and action.
- Do not choose Restore until you have verified that the file came from the genuine Araxis installation.
A quarantined file should only be restored when its origin and digital signature are trustworthy. If the file is in an unexpected directory, has an invalid signature, or appeared alongside other suspicious files, leave it quarantined and run a full Microsoft Defender scan.
The safer recovery path after a confirmed removal is usually to uninstall and reinstall Araxis Merge from its official source. Do not disable antivirus merely to force a DLL into place. If a clean official installer is repeatedly detected, keep the detection details and contact Araxis and your security-software provider.
Do not copy 2057.dll into System32 or SysWOW64
Do not place this file manually in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those directories contain Windows components and shared system libraries. 2057.dll is associated with Araxis Merge, not established as a Windows component. Copying it into a system directory can create version conflicts, expose other programs to an untrusted binary, and leave the actual Merge installation incomplete.
Windows uses application-specific DLL loading rules as well as system search locations. The correct location is normally determined by the application installation, so restoring the complete Merge package is preferable to changing the search path.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDo not use random DLL download sites
A standalone download can be:
- Malicious or tampered with.
- From the wrong Araxis Merge release.
- Built for the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.
- Missing related files that the executable also requires.
- A file with the same name but a different origin.
A download that makes the first error disappear can still leave Merge unstable or create a security problem. The safe sources are the official Araxis Merge Windows installer, Araxis’s documented older-release downloads when an older version is required, and the documented Araxis WinGet package.
Match the DLL to the Merge architecture and version
The DLL must match the application that loads it. A 32-bit program and a 64-bit DLL are not interchangeable simply because Windows itself is 64-bit.
Older Araxis Merge releases included both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows packages. Araxis states that Merge 2018 was the final release supporting 32-bit Windows, while later releases require 64-bit Windows. Current releases are distributed as 64-bit applications.
Use these checks:
- Open Settings → System → About and note System type.
- Check the installed Merge release in Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- If Merge still opens far enough to display product information, check its Help or About screen.
- Use the installer intended for that release and operating system.
- Do not copy
2057.dllfrom another computer, backup, or Merge version into the current installation.
If an older serial number or operating system is involved, the newest installer may not be the right package. Use the matching Araxis release information or contact Araxis for the appropriate installer.
If Windows components are also damaged, run DISM and SFC
DISM and System File Checker are relevant when Windows itself shows broader damage, such as multiple Windows applications failing, corrupted system components, or repeated system-file errors. They normally do not reinstall an application-owned Araxis Merge DLL.
First install pending Windows updates and restart. Then:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Repair or reinstall Araxis Merge if
2057.dllis still missing.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command should be described as a guaranteed way to restore 2057.dll.

If DISM cannot obtain repair files through Windows Update, Microsoft documents using a matching Windows installation source:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace the example source with a valid source matching the installed Windows version. Do not guess at a source path.
When you are manually comparing Windows component versions, repeating DISM and SFC can be time-consuming. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what needs attention, while the repair itself requires the full version. Reinstalling Araxis Merge remains the definitive fix when the missing file belongs to that application.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not register this DLL with regsvr32
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. Araxis does not document 2057.dll as a COM or ActiveX component. It is identified as a language-resource module.
Running a command such as this is therefore not an appropriate repair:
regsvr32 2057.dll
It may produce an error stating that the entry point was not found, and it will not recreate a missing application resource. Use the Araxis installer instead.
Check the disk and file system if the DLL keeps disappearing
If reinstalling restores 2057.dll but it disappears again, look for a wider problem:
- Check Windows Security → Protection history for repeated removals.
- Review Event Viewer for disk or NTFS errors:
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Open Windows Logs → System.
- Look for recent disk, NTFS, or storage-controller errors.
- Use the storage manufacturer’s diagnostic utility to check drive health.
- Install pending Windows updates.
- Run DISM and SFC if other Windows files are also failing.
- Reinstall Araxis Merge after addressing the storage or security problem.
A cleanup utility or interrupted update can leave an executable and its resources out of sync. If the problem began immediately after a known system change and an appropriate restore point exists, System Restore is an option:
- Open Start and search for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the change.
- Review the affected programs.
- Complete the restore and test Merge.
System Restore is not the first-line solution for one missing application DLL, and it does not replace reinstalling a damaged application.

Driver and Windows Features checks are usually not relevant
2057.dll is not identified as a device driver, DirectX component, Visual C++ runtime, or .NET component. Therefore:
- Installing optional Windows Features is not the primary repair.
- Device Manager will not restore this language-resource DLL.
- Installing a graphics, printer, chipset, or storage driver is not the normal fix.
- Installing Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, DirectX, or .NET should not be your first step unless the actual error names one of those dependencies.
If the same computer has a separate driver problem, update it through Settings → Windows Update → Advanced options → Optional updates, or through the hardware manufacturer. In Device Manager, right-click the specific device, select Update driver, and use a trusted driver source.
Manually hunting through many driver versions can obscure the separate issue. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify stale drivers, while installing updates requires the full version. It is not a substitute for reinstalling Araxis Merge when 2057.dll is the missing application file.
Verify the restored file
After repair or reinstall:
- Open the Araxis Merge installation directory.
- Confirm that
2057.dllis present beside the Merge program files. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab if it is available.
- Confirm that the signer is Araxis Ltd.
- On the Details tab, review the description. It should identify Araxis Merge UK English language resources.
- Launch Merge from the current installation shortcut.
Do not treat one historical version, file size, checksum, or architecture as universal. Araxis releases can differ, and the file must match the installed Merge version.
If the file is present but Merge still reports an error, confirm the executable path again. Another application can theoretically request a file with the same name. If the error names a non-Araxis program, troubleshoot that program instead.
Frequently asked questions
Is 2057.dll legitimate?
It is a legitimate, identifiable Araxis Merge component when it comes from an authentic Araxis installation and has the expected Araxis Ltd provenance. The filename alone is not proof of legitimacy. A copy in an unexpected directory or with a failed signature deserves investigation.
Is 2057.dll supplied by Windows?
There is no reliable evidence that it is a Windows system DLL. The number also corresponds to the Windows locale identifier for English United Kingdom, but that does not make the file part of Windows. In this context it is an Araxis Merge language-resource module.
Which application installed it?
The verified association is Araxis Merge from Araxis Ltd. Confirm the executable named in the error before assuming that association applies to your case.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Should I download 2057.dll separately?
No. Restore the matching Araxis Merge installation from the official installer or documented WinGet package. A standalone copy may be malicious, incompatible, or from the wrong release.
Does regsvr32 fix the error?
No evidence shows that this resource DLL should be registered. regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration entry points, not for general missing-DLL repair.
Why does Windows say the file is “not designed to run on Windows”?
The file may be corrupt, incompatible with the executable, built for the wrong architecture, or affected by a dependency or security problem. Reinstall the matching Araxis Merge release rather than replacing the file with a random download.
What if reinstalling Merge does not help?
Check for a stale shortcut, a second Merge installation, antivirus quarantine, an old backup being launched, or an installer failure. Confirm the exact executable path and preserve installer logs. If another program names 2057.dll, investigate that program separately.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Should I run SFC and DISM?
Run them when Windows itself appears damaged or several system applications are failing. They are not the normal way to restore an Araxis-owned DLL. Repair or reinstall Araxis Merge first.
When should I contact Araxis?
Contact Araxis if the official installer fails, your older licence requires a historical release, antivirus repeatedly removes a clean installation, or the correctly matched installation still fails after checking the shortcut and file signature.
