“frostcollector.dll is missing.” If Windows reports that frostcollector.dll was not found, could not be loaded, or failed a checksum check, repair the Innova Lineage II client rather than copying a DLL into Windows.
Which fix applies to you
Use the matching path below:
- The file is missing or was not found: repair the Lineage II installation through its official launcher.
- The file exists but will not load: check antivirus quarantine, permissions, and whether the file belongs to the current client build.
- You see a checksum error: replace the complete Frost component through the launcher instead of copying an older DLL.
- The download stops near 99.9 percent: check launcher permissions, security software, proxy settings, and network restrictions.
- The launcher cannot repair the files: uninstall and reinstall Lineage II from the official Innova or 4game source.
- The message names
VCRUNTIME,MSVCP, or a DirectX DLL instead: repair that named dependency, notfrostcollector.dll. - Windows itself has several unrelated errors: use Windows Update, DISM, and System File Checker after repairing the game.
What frostcollector.dll actually is
frostcollector.dll is a real 32-bit component of Innova’s Frost protection software, which is included with supported Innova or 4game Lineage II clients. Its recorded description is frostCollector Dynamic Link Library.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
It is not a Windows component. Windows 10 and Windows 11 do not normally install it, maintain it, or restore it through the Windows DLL store. The correct copy belongs to the Lineage II game directory.

Lineage IIfrostfrostcollector.dll
or:
Lineage IIsystemFrostfrostcollector.dll
The exact folder can differ between client versions. Frost may also contain separate 32-bit and 64-bit driver files, but that does not mean you should search for a 64-bit replacement for the collector DLL.
Do not place this file in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
A 64-bit Windows installation can run a 32-bit Lineage II client. Copying a 32-bit game file into a Windows system folder does not make it load correctly and can create further conflicts.
Fix 1: Repair Lineage II through the official launcher
This is the most likely solution for a missing, damaged, outdated, or checksum-mismatched frostcollector.dll.
Close every Lineage II process
- Close Lineage II.
- Close the Innova or 4game launcher.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Processes or Details.
- Look for Lineage II, the game launcher, Frost-related processes, or a launcher updater.
- Select a related process and choose End task.
- Repeat only for processes clearly belonging to the game or launcher.
Do not terminate unrelated Windows processes.
Run the launcher repair
The wording varies between launcher versions, but the function is usually called Repair, Verify, Check files, Restore, or Update.
- Open the official Lineage II launcher.
- Sign in if required.
- Select the affected Lineage II installation.
- Open the game’s settings or the menu beside the Play button.
- Choose the repair or file-verification option.
- Allow the launcher to scan the complete installation.
- Approve the download of missing or damaged Frost files.
- Wait until the launcher reports that the installation is current.
- Start the game from that launcher.
The repair should restore the Frost folder as a matching group of files. It may download frostcollector.dll alongside other Frost components, including updater, launcher, driver, or game files.
How to tell whether it worked
The repair was successful if:
- the launcher completes its verification without reporting a missing or corrupt Frost file;
frostcollector.dllappears inside the game’s Frost-related directory;- the game reaches the login or character-selection screen;
- the same error does not return after restarting Windows.
Do not judge the repair by the file’s size or by an old version number found on a DLL-index page. A historical listing reports a 32-bit 1.2.6.7 copy at approximately 1.1 MB, but that is not a universal current version. Other official-community logs show different Frost collector versions. The launcher’s current client files and checksum are the authority.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine before restoring anything
Frost is a game-protection component, so antivirus or endpoint security software may quarantine or block one of its files. A detection is a reason to investigate, not automatic proof that every Frost copy is malicious.
Check Windows Security
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent events involving the Lineage II installation or
frostcollector.dll. - Record the detection name and file path.
- Do not restore the file immediately if it came from an unofficial download.
If the file was installed by the legitimate official launcher, scan the computer and confirm that the game installation is genuine before considering a restore. When possible, use the launcher to download a clean copy instead of restoring an old quarantined file.
Check third-party security software
Open the security product’s quarantine, detection history, or blocked-app section. Look for:
- the full path to
frostcollector.dll; - whether the file was quarantined, blocked, or deleted;
- the detection name;
- whether the entire Frost folder was restricted.
If the security product blocks the official installation repeatedly, consult its documented exception process or contact the security administrator. Do not disable protection permanently and do not exclude broad folders such as the entire Windows directory.

After changing a security setting, run the official launcher repair again. The launcher must redownload and validate the Frost files.

Fix 3: Resolve Access denied and permission errors
An Access denied message can mean that the launcher cannot replace the file, antivirus software has locked it, or a Windows account lacks permission to write to the game directory.
Start the launcher with appropriate permissions
- Close the game and launcher.
- Open Start and search for the official Lineage II launcher.
- Right-click it.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run the launcher’s repair or verification function.
If this works, the issue was probably related to permissions or a locked file.
Do not routinely run the entire game as administrator if the launcher alone resolves the repair. Also avoid changing permissions on Windows system folders. If the game is installed in a protected location and the installer allows another destination, reinstall it into a normal user-accessible location rather than forcing ownership changes on system directories.
Check Controlled folder access
Windows Security can block applications from modifying protected folders.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Manage ransomware protection.
- Open Allow an app through Controlled folder access.
- Review blocked applications.
- Allow only the legitimate official launcher if you have verified its source.
- Run the launcher repair again.
If this is a work or managed computer, an administrator may control this setting. Contact that administrator instead of changing security policy repeatedly.
Fix 4: Repair a launcher download that stops at 99.9 percent
A download that stops near completion often indicates a file-locking, permission, checksum, proxy, or security-software problem. It does not necessarily mean that frostcollector.dll itself is defective.
Try these steps in order:
- Close the launcher completely.
- Restart Windows.
- Temporarily disconnect VPN or proxy software if your network policy permits.
- Confirm that the game drive has sufficient free space.
- Start the official launcher as administrator.
- Run its repair or verification function again.
- Check Windows Security and third-party antivirus logs for a blocked file.
- If your network uses a proxy or filtered DNS, ask the network administrator whether the launcher’s download service is being restricted.
- Try the repair from a stable network.
- If the same file repeatedly fails validation, reinstall the official client.
Do not manually download only the file that appears to be stuck. Frost files are versioned and may be checked together. Replacing one file with a copy from another client can turn a missing-file problem into a checksum failure.
Fix 5: Reinstall Lineage II when repair cannot restore Frost
Use a clean reinstall when the launcher repeatedly reports missing Frost files, cannot finish verification, or restores the file only for it to disappear again.

Remove the affected client
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the Innova or 4game Lineage II client.
- Select the three-dot menu or the application entry.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the uninstall wizard.
- Restart Windows.
If the uninstaller leaves the old game directory behind, do not immediately delete it if you need screenshots, logs, configuration files, or saved information. Once you have preserved anything necessary, remove the remaining installation only if you are certain it belongs to the old client.

Install from the official source
Download and install Lineage II using the official Innova or 4game launcher or installer. Avoid repackaged installers and DLL bundles.
During installation:
- use a location with enough free disk space;
- avoid a restricted or managed folder when the installer offers another location;
- allow the launcher to complete every update;
- do not interrupt Frost downloads;
- start the game through the launcher after installation.
A fresh official installation is the definitive fix when the client files are incomplete or mixed between releases.
Fix 6: If Windows components may also be corrupted
frostcollector.dll is not a protected Windows system file. SFC and DISM will not normally recreate it. Use them only when Windows has broader symptoms, such as damaged built-in applications, update failures, repeated system-file errors, or other unrelated DLL problems.
First install pending Windows updates and restart. Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Run the official Lineage II launcher repair again.
Microsoft’s supported procedure uses DISM before SFC. The commands repair Windows components, not the private Frost files in the Lineage II directory.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting slow. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows problems and show what needs attention, while its full version performs repairs; reinstalling Lineage II remains the definitive fix for a damaged Frost installation.
Fix 7: Install a runtime only when the error names it
There is no evidence that Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET directly installs frostcollector.dll. Reinstalling these components will not normally restore a missing Frost file.

For a 32-bit Lineage II client on 64-bit Windows, the x86 Visual C++ redistributable may be required. Installing only the x64 package does not satisfy every 32-bit application.
Use Microsoft’s supported Visual C++ Redistributable page, install the architecture named by the error, and restart Windows. Then repair Lineage II through its launcher again.
Do not remove older Visual C++ redistributables simply because a newer release is installed. Multiple versions can coexist for different applications.

Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is not the correct default repair for frostcollector.dll.
Game-private DLLs are normally loaded by the game or its launcher. They do not need COM registration. Running:
regsvr32 frostcollector.dll
can produce an error such as DllRegisterServer was not found, and it does not restore a missing or mismatched Frost installation.
Use the official launcher to replace the complete Frost component instead.
Driver updates are not the first fix
Frost may include separate driver files, but updating display, chipset, or other Windows drivers will not normally install frostcollector.dll. Use Device Manager only when the error identifies a device problem or when Windows shows a separate driver warning.
To inspect drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the reported device.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Note the provider, date, and version.
- Use Update Driver only when appropriate.
- Restart Windows after a successful driver update.
Do not use Device Manager to search for frostcollector.dll. It is a game component, not a Windows device driver.
Manually hunting through many hardware vendors can be tedious when several drivers are stale. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver updates, with installation handled by the full version; however, reinstalling the official Lineage II client remains the definitive fix for Frost files.
Why DLL download websites are unsafe
Do not download frostcollector.dll from a random DLL website and copy it into System32 or SysWOW64.

- the file may belong to a different Lineage II client build;
- the architecture may be wrong;
- the file may be modified or malicious;
- the launcher may reject it through checksum validation;
- the actual problem may be antivirus quarantine or a damaged installation;
- the DLL may require matching Frost files around it.
The safe source is the official Innova or 4game Lineage II launcher and installer. Let that software obtain the complete, matching Frost component.
To check a suspicious copy, examine its location, digital-signature information when available, creation history, and antivirus results. A file outside the game directory is not automatically legitimate. If several reputable scanners detect it or it appeared without an official client update, quarantine it and reinstall the game from the official source.
When to contact Innova support
Contact the game operator after a clean official reinstall fails, especially if:

FAQ
Is frostcollector.dll part of Windows?
No. It belongs to Innova’s Frost component for supported Lineage II clients. Windows does not normally restore it through System32, SysWOW64, SFC, or DISM.
Where should frostcollector.dll be located?
Usually inside the Lineage II installation, in a frost directory or a systemFrost directory. The exact path depends on the client build.
Is frostcollector.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
Public records identify the collector as a 32-bit DLL. Frost can contain separate 32-bit and 64-bit driver files, but do not assume that the collector itself has a 64-bit replacement.
Can I copy it into System32?
No. The file is game-private and should remain in the official Lineage II installation. Copying it into Windows system folders is unsafe and does not repair the client.
Recommended Free Tools
Should I use regsvr32?
No. Registration is not the normal loading method for this game component. Repair the Lineage II installation through its launcher.
Will Visual C++ fix it?
Only if the displayed error separately names a missing Visual C++ dependency. Visual C++ does not normally supply frostcollector.dll.
What does a checksum error mean?
It usually means the file is incomplete, damaged, blocked, or from the wrong client build. Run the official launcher’s repair function and replace the complete Frost component.
What if the file keeps being quarantined?
Record the antivirus detection, scan the system, verify that the game came from the official source, and use the launcher to obtain a clean copy. Do not restore an arbitrary DLL from the internet.
Is an old version such as 1.2.6.7 safe to use?
Not as a general replacement. Historical listings are not current release guarantees, and Frost versions may be tied to the client build and checksum. Let the official launcher select the correct version.
What is the final fix if nothing works?
Uninstall the affected Lineage II client, restart Windows, install a fresh copy from the official Innova or 4game source, and allow the launcher to complete all Frost downloads before starting the game.
