Those fundamentals make the early hours of Grounded 2 more manageable, while the newer pond content gives you another progression path once you are ready to explore beyond the starting area.
The tips below adapt the launch-era advice in Xbox Wire’s beginner guide. Recipes, unlocks, and balance can change as the Game Preview and Early Access game develops, so check your current in-game menus when a requirement differs.
Learn what resources do before using them
1. Scan unfamiliar resources before spending them
Take new plant and bug materials to a Resource Analyzer and scan them. An analysis can reveal a material’s uses and unlock crafting recipes, helping you avoid spending a new ingredient before you know what it can make.
2. Revisit an analyzer when you find new materials
Keep analyzing unfamiliar materials as you explore. A resource found later may open a useful recipe even if your first scans only revealed basic equipment.

3. Use new recipes to set your next gathering goal
Once a recipe appears, check its ingredient list and gather toward a specific item rather than collecting at random. This is especially useful when you are preparing for a longer trip or a difficult encounter.
Build a combat kit before exploring far
4. Make a Pebblet Spear early
The launch guide recommends the Pebblet Spear as an early weapon. Having a basic weapon before ranging far from your starting area gives you a better option when an encounter is unavoidable.
5. Add a bow if you want to fight at range
A bow is another early option identified by the official guide. It suits players who want to attack from a distance, though it does not remove the need to prepare for enemies that close in.
6. Consider the Warhammerlet for heavy attacks
The Warhammerlet is another suggested early weapon. Choose it when its heavier stun-focused attacks fit the encounter and your play style; check the current recipe and stats in your game.

7. Craft armor before taking bigger risks
Basic armor helps make early exploration less punishing. The launch guide gives the Red Ant armor set as an example of an early option; use your analyzer and crafting menus to confirm what is available in your current build.
Make the Buggy an early objective
8. Remember that the park has grown since launch
Do not treat the original launch map as the limit of the current game. The Into the Abyss pond expansion adds underwater progression, encounters, and building. It also introduces diving gear and the amphibious Toe Biter Buggy. You can learn the early survival fundamentals first, then pursue the pond when you are equipped for it.
9. Work toward unlocking a Buggy
A Buggy can make getting around the park and collecting materials more practical, so treat its unlock as a useful early goal rather than something to postpone indefinitely. The process requires gathering components and securing a Red Ant Soldier Egg.
10. Prepare before looking for a Red Ant Soldier Egg
Do not set out for the egg with an empty inventory and starter gear. Equip armor, bring a suitable weapon, and pack healing items before committing to the trip.

11. Bring a strong weapon for the Buggy-related fight
The egg objective involves a dangerous encounter. Choose your best available weapon and make sure it is ready before you go; the launch guide specifically advises bringing strong weapons.
12. Craft healing items before you leave
Healing supplies give you a way to recover during a risky expedition. Prepare them in advance rather than relying on finding what you need after a fight has started.
13. Use the Buggy to cover ground
Once unlocked, a Buggy can help you traverse the park more quickly. Use it when the destination and route suit mounted travel.
14. Let the Buggy help move building materials
The Buggy can also assist with carrying building materials. That makes it useful when you are transporting supplies for a project, not just traveling between locations.

15. Take advantage of its combat and gathering support
Buggy support can help in combat and with bulk gathering. Use those strengths where appropriate, but do not assume the mount replaces preparation for a dangerous area.
Stay supplied with food and water
16. Keep snacks in your inventory
Carry food while exploring so you are not caught without something to eat when you need it. The launch guide recommends planning around food and drink rather than treating them as an afterthought.
17. Check your food and water needs during trips
Make food and water part of your route planning. Before leaving a safe area, consider how long you expect to be out and whether your supplies are adequate.
18. Build a Roasting Spit
A Roasting Spit lets you cook harvested bug parts. It is a practical early survival station for turning gathered food into something you can take on later outings.

19. Craft a Canteen at the workbench
A Canteen gives you a way to carry water as you explore. The official beginner guide directs players to craft one at the workbench.
20. Scan Grub Hide for the Canteen recipe
The launch guide says scanning Grub Hide unlocks the Canteen recipe. If that does not match your current game, check the analyzer and recipe requirements in your build, since early-access progression can change.

What changed after the launch-era tips?
The core advice about scanning, early equipment, survival supplies, Raw Science, and the Buggy comes from Xbox Wire’s July 2025 guide, published at the Game Preview and Early Access launch. The game has since expanded: Xbox Wire’s August 2026 Into the Abyss update announcement describes a substantial underwater area and progression. The PlayStation announcement from Obsidian also describes diving gear, underwater building, new encounters, and the amphibious Toe Biter Buggy. Treat the launch guide as a foundation, not a complete description of every current unlock or activity.
Grounded 2 remains in Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC, and Early Access on Steam and PlayStation 5, according to the August 2026 Xbox Wire update announcement. Xbox Wire also says the game is available through Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, and that Xbox Play Anywhere supports play on Xbox console and PC at no additional cost. Obsidian’s FAQ, last updated July 29, 2025, says PC and Xbox cross-platform play and progress are supported and that Steam players need a linked Microsoft account for cross-platform capabilities. That FAQ predates the PlayStation release, so it does not establish PS5 cross-save details.
