The 27 picks below cover mobile and PC, with the offline boundary called out for each: some need an initial download or launch, and others keep multiplayer, events or cloud services online-only.
Important: “Offline” usually means the main solo game can run without internet, not that every feature does. On PC, a launcher or license check can still block startup if the game has not been prepared. Game availability and offline behavior can change with region, storefront and version, so check the current listing for your device before travelling.
How to choose an offline game
- For short sessions: choose a card, puzzle or tower-defense game you can pause and resume.
- For longer sessions: farming, RPG, sandbox and exploration games offer more to work toward.
- For a no-surprises trip: prefer a game whose single-player mode does not depend on servers, then install its content and confirm it launches before leaving.
27 games to play without an internet connection
These picks span recommendations in current offline-game guides and well-established single-player options. The table describes the intended offline play, not a guarantee that every storefront version or online feature behaves identically.
| # | Game | Platform | Genre | What works offline—and what does not |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Balatro | iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch, PC | Roguelike card game | Runs and solo play are suited to offline sessions after installation. Online store, account or platform services are separate from the game. |
| 2 | Stardew Valley | iOS, Android, Switch, PC and other consoles | Farming and life sim | Single-player farming and exploration are the offline draw. Multiplayer requires connectivity; make sure the game and any desired content are installed. |
| 3 | Minecraft | iOS, Android, Switch, PC and other consoles | Sandbox and survival | Downloaded single-player Creative or Survival play can provide an offline world. Servers, Realms, Marketplace access and cross-play require a connection; initial setup or content downloads may be needed. |
| 4 | Dead Cells | iOS, Android, PC and consoles | Action roguelite | The core solo action is the offline appeal. Download the base game and any DLC you plan to use in advance; availability and included content differ by platform. |
| 5 | Terraria | iOS, Android, PC and consoles | Exploration, crafting and survival | Solo exploration and building are playable without multiplayer. Online worlds and multiplayer need connectivity; AndroidHire notes controller support, though compatible hardware is optional. |
| 6 | The Room: Old Sins | iOS, Android | Puzzle adventure | A self-contained puzzle adventure suited to offline play once installed; no online multiplayer is part of its core experience. |
| 7 | Bloons TD 6 | iOS, Android, PC and consoles | Tower defense | Single-player play can work offline after the first launch. Co-op and server-dependent events need a connection. |
| 8 | Monument Valley | iOS, Android | Perspective puzzle | Its downloaded single-player puzzle chapters are suitable for offline play. Check that any extra chapters are installed first. |
| 9 | Monument Valley 2 | iOS, Android | Puzzle adventure | Solo puzzle play is the offline focus; install the game and any available content before going out of coverage. |
| 10 | Alto’s Odyssey | iOS, Android | Endless runner | The core run-based game is a good fit for short offline sessions once downloaded. Connected services or promotions, where present, may not be available. |
| 11 | Alto’s Adventure | iOS, Android | Endless runner | Solo runs are the main attraction and do not rely on live multiplayer. Confirm the current regional listing and install before travel. |
| 12 | Mini Metro | iOS, Android, PC and consoles | Strategy puzzle | Build and manage a transit network in solo play; online services are not necessary for the basic puzzle experience. |
| 13 | Mini Motorways | iOS, PC and consoles | Strategy puzzle | Its city-road planning challenges are designed for solo play. Download the game and any platform-specific content beforehand. |
| 14 | Slay the Spire | iOS, Android, PC and consoles | Deck-building roguelike | Runs are solo and turn-based, so they suit offline play after installation. Platform services such as cloud saves may not sync until reconnecting. |
| 15 | Vampire Survivors | iOS, Android, PC and consoles | Action roguelike | Its core survival runs are solo. Install updates and any downloadable content you want in advance; online store and sync features are separate. |
| 16 | Streets of Rage 4 | iOS, Android, PC and consoles | Beat ’em up | Solo stages are the offline option. Local or online multiplayer capabilities depend on edition and platform; online play requires a connection. |
| 17 | Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas | iOS, Android, PC and consoles | Open-world action | The single-player campaign is the offline experience once the full game data is installed and the platform permits launch. Account or license checks can vary by version. |
| 18 | Grimvalor | iOS, Android | Action platformer | Single-player action is the focus and is suited to offline play after download. Check store availability and any edition-specific requirements. |
| 19 | Crashlands | iOS, Android, PC and consoles | Crafting adventure | Its story and crafting are solo-focused. Download the game and updates before travel; cloud or account features may need internet. |
| 20 | Kingdom Rush | iOS, Android, PC and consoles | Tower defense | Campaign stages offer offline strategy play once installed. Store, account and online extras are not required for the basic solo defense. |
| 21 | Kingdom Rush Frontiers | iOS, Android, PC and consoles | Tower defense | Its campaign is suited to offline play. Confirm that the chosen version and any extra heroes or content have been downloaded. |
| 22 | Kingdom Rush Origins | iOS, Android, PC and consoles | Tower defense | Play the solo campaign offline after installation; connected storefront functions and account services remain online-dependent. |
| 23 | Limbo | iOS, Android, PC and consoles | Platform puzzle | A single-player, atmospheric puzzle-platform game with no live multiplayer requirement. Install it before losing access to the store. |
| 24 | Inside | iOS, PC and consoles | Platform puzzle | The downloaded solo campaign is the relevant offline mode; platform-specific account or launch checks may still apply. |
| 25 | Oceanhorn | iOS, Android, PC and consoles | Action-adventure | Its solo adventure is the offline draw after installation. Check that the edition you choose does not require additional downloads at first launch. |
| 26 | Red Dead Redemption 2 | PC and consoles | Open-world action-adventure | The story campaign is distinct from Red Dead Online, which needs internet. On PC, launcher and license-check behavior can affect offline startup; prepare and verify the specific storefront in advance. |
| 27 | The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered | PC and consoles | Role-playing game | The single-player RPG is the offline mode to plan around. PC launcher or license checks and platform setup can vary, so confirm offline launch for your storefront before travel. |
Prepare before you lose coverage
- Install the game and updates while online. Check for extra data or DLC downloads, particularly for large games and mobile editions.
- Open it once while connected. Complete sign-in, permissions, first-run setup or license validation that the platform requests.
- Create a save or start a session. For games with save files, confirm that progress is stored locally rather than assuming cloud sync will be available offline.
- Test with connectivity disabled. Close the game, switch off Wi-Fi and mobile data (or disconnect the PC), then launch it again. If it fails, reconnect and resolve setup before travelling.
- Keep expectations narrow. Online multiplayer, live events, cloud saves, store access and server-based extras may disappear even when the solo game works.
Why an “offline” game may still ask for internet
Some games need internet only for a first download or launch; others retain a server-dependent feature alongside an offline campaign. PCGamesN warns that some PC games perform an anti-piracy license check before launch, which can prevent access without connectivity. That makes a pre-trip offline relaunch especially important for PC games and launcher-based copies.

Mobile recommendations also mix games with different boundaries: a solo campaign may work while multiplayer, events or cloud features do not. Subscription catalogs require a separate check: Pocket Gamer notes Apple Arcade games can work offline for subscribers, but that does not establish eligibility for every game, device or catalog change. Download the specific title and verify its current terms.
