In 2024, the two clearly identifiable free-to-play alternatives to EA SPORTS FC were Konami’s eFootball 2024 and Strikerz’s UFL. A third contender was not confirmed: FIFA said it was discussing a new simulation football game for 2024, but named no developer or released product. So the realistic choices were eFootball and UFL; FIFA’s project was only a possibility.
What counted as a FIFA alternative in 2024?
“FIFA” can mean either the football series that became EA SPORTS FC or FIFA itself as the organization behind the name. For the 2024 comparison, EA SPORTS FC 24 was the current EA edition. The alternatives below are not three released games: eFootball 2024 and UFL were identifiable games, while FIFA’s proposed simulation title remained an unconfirmed plan.

The three contenders, compared
| Option | Status in the 2024 framing | Cost and availability | What was established |
|---|---|---|---|
| eFootball 2024 | Playable Konami game, delivered as an update to the ongoing eFootball platform | Free-to-play and digital-only, according to Konami’s platform announcement; check current store listings for present availability | Konami highlighted changes to dribbling, defending and control response, alongside partner clubs and stadiums |
| UFL | Free-to-play football game positioned as a competitive entrant | UFL’s official site currently lists PlayStation Store, Xbox Store and PC. Mobile is described as being in global-access soft launch, so access may vary | Its official positioning establishes the free-to-play model and listed platforms, not a measured gameplay comparison with EA or Konami |
| FIFA simulation project | Possibility, not a confirmed released game | Not stated in FIFA’s announcement | FIFA said it was engaging with publishers, media companies and investors about development of a major simulation football title for 2024; it did not name a studio, product or confirmed launch |
1. eFootball 2024: a free update to Konami’s ongoing platform
eFootball 2024 was not a conventional annual boxed sequel. Konami framed it as an update to its continuing free-to-play, digital-only eFootball platform. The distinction matters if you were expecting a separately purchased yearly release rather than an evolving game.

What Konami said changed
Konami’s 2023 announcement centered the update on dribbling and defending, including improved control response and gameplay changes. Those are the developer’s descriptions of the update; they are not independent evidence that the game played better than EA SPORTS FC 24.
Clubs, licenses and fit
Konami named partner clubs and stadiums for the edition, but that does not establish that every team or competition a player might want was licensed. The available material does not support a like-for-like licensing count against EA. For context, EA reported more than 19,000 licensed players, 700 teams and 30 leagues for FC 24 in its 2023 launch release.
eFootball was the clearest option here for someone seeking a free-to-play football game from an established series, with the trade-off that its 2024 offering was an update-based platform rather than a newly purchased annual edition.

2. UFL: a free-to-play challenger with a changing rollout
Strikerz presented UFL as a free-to-play football game aimed at competitive play. Its official site currently lists PlayStation Store, Xbox Store and PC. It also describes mobile as being in a global-access soft-launch stage; that wording does not mean the mobile version is universally available in every region.
Check the platform and region before planning to play
UFL’s listed platforms are useful starting points, but the site’s current listing does not establish that every store listing, region or version was available in 2024. Mobile status is especially distinct: a soft launch can involve limited or changing access. Confirm the relevant live store page and regional availability before downloading.
What the evidence does—and does not—tell you
The official material supports UFL’s free-to-play positioning and platform listings. It does not provide a basis for declaring it better or worse than eFootball or EA SPORTS FC in gameplay, content depth or online performance. Treat it as a separate challenger to try if it is available on your platform, not as a proven replacement for a particular mode or feature.

3. FIFA’s proposed 2024 game: an announcement, not a third released choice
In 2022, FIFA said it was “currently engaging with leading game publishers, media companies and investors in regard to the development of a major new FIFA simulation football game title for 2024.” That statement established discussions and an ambition. It did not identify a developer, confirm a product name, or guarantee a release in 2024.
As a result, FIFA’s proposed title belonged in the conversation as a potential future competitor, not on a list of games players could choose from. The statement alone does not substantiate a specific FIFA/2K game.

Quick Recap
How to choose between the real 2024 options
- Want a free-to-play game already framed as part of an established platform? Consider eFootball 2024, while keeping in mind that it was an update rather than a paid annual sequel.
- Want to try a newer competitive entrant? Check whether UFL is available for your platform and region; its store availability and mobile rollout should be verified directly.
- Want a confirmed FIFA-branded simulation game in 2024? FIFA’s announcement did not confirm one, so it was not a playable third alternative on the evidence available.
- Comparing licensing or gameplay with EA SPORTS FC 24? EA’s launch figures and Konami’s update descriptions are claims from the respective publishers, not a controlled comparison of game quality or completeness.
