Riot said three characters were overrepresented in tournament play and would receive targeted nerfs. But the available sources do not identify professional players who were worried about the patch, or document their specific concerns. That distinction matters: Riot’s stated balance rationale is not evidence of pro reaction or of the patch’s competitive results.
What was 2XKO’s Season 1 balance patch?
Patch 1.1.1 launched Season 1 on January 20, 2026, for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Riot published the notes on January 19. The update combined changes to how combat interactions work with targeted character and Fuse adjustments; it was not simply a round of buffs. Riot’s patch notes said the team had been addressing bugs and interactions with poor or absent counterplay, with the goal of pushing the meta forward.
Which system-wide changes affected counterplay?
Several changes altered the rules around projectiles, assists, movement, and defensive resources. Riot said some projectile interactions could put defenders in situations with no good answer. Under the new rules, most projectiles disappear in specified situations, including when the champion who fired them or the Point champion is hit, and when a throw tech occurs.
- Projectiles: Most disappear in certain hit and throw-tech situations, reducing cases where a projectile continues to constrain a defender after the relevant interaction.
- Assist cooldown: Hitting an Assist began triggering a four-second cooldown.
- Fast jabs: The slowest 8-frame jabs were shortened to 7 frames.
- Movement and defense: Riot also changed dash movement and interactions involving Break and Assists.
These are rule changes Riot documented, not proof that particular matchups became easier or that competitive outcomes changed. The patch notes describe the intended counterplay direction; they do not provide tournament results establishing its effect.

What buffs and character adjustments were included?
The update included direct buffs as well as nerfs and kit changes. One clear example was Juggernaut Fuse, whose health and resource adjustments increased its resilience and Break meter gain:
| Juggernaut Fuse value | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum health bonus | 120% base health | 130% base health |
| Break meter gain per unblocked hit | 0.01 | 0.02 |
| Eject health recovery when recoverable health was available | 50 | 100 |
These figures are values in Riot’s January 19 patch notes, not independent measurements of how often the Fuse was selected or how successful it became. The Season 1 preview also described meaningful changes and buffs for Blitzcrank, Braum, Darius, Jinx, Illaoi, Vi, and Warwick. It does not, by itself, establish the competitive impact of those changes.

Why did Riot target Ekko, Yasuo, and Ahri?
A Season 1 preview attributed to Riot Yohosie said that Ekko, Yasuo, and Ahri continued to be overrepresented in the tournament meta and would receive targeted nerfs. The preview also pointed to changes and buffs elsewhere in the roster. That is Riot’s stated rationale for the adjustments—not an independent tournament analysis and not evidence that professional players were worried about the patch. The reposted preview does not provide a role title for Yohosie. The Reddit repost includes community discussion, but the available material does not establish that commenters were professional players.
Did the patch worry professional players?
The sources establish that Riot made broad changes, included buffs, and said three characters were overrepresented in tournament play. They do not name a professional player who expressed concern, quote a pro reaction, or measure professional sentiment. So the claim that the patch had already worried pros is not verified by this evidence.

It is also too early to infer competitive consequences from the patch values alone. Riot’s notes explain changes and intent, but the cited material does not supply post-patch tournament statistics or other outcome data that would show whether the meta shifted, whether the buffs altered character viability, or whether the counterplay changes resolved the interactions Riot identified.

Riot Support says patch support is planned through patch 1.3.5 in December 2026. After that, the game is expected to enter an evergreen state with no further patches planned at that time. Riot also says the 2026 Competitive Series concludes with an official event in November; community tournaments may continue under Riot’s guidelines. These plans place the Season 1 patch in a longer balance timeline, but do not change what can be established about reactions to patch 1.1.1. Riot Support’s transition FAQ describes the schedule.
