DELTARUNE Chapters 3 and 4 are already out: creator Toby Fox announced them for June 5, 2025, and Steam currently lists Chapters 1–5 as available. If you are about to play—or replay—those chapters, preparation is mostly about choosing a platform, sorting out save continuity, and deciding how carefully to avoid spoilers. None of the suggestions below is a gameplay requirement.
First, know what you’re getting into
DELTARUNE is a chapter-based parallel story to UNDERTALE, with action-oriented battles in which you can fight or spare, alongside puzzles and hidden bosses. Its official site and current Steam listing say Chapters 1–5 are available, with more chapters planned as free updates. Steam lists June 4, 2025 as the release date; Fox’s announcement gave June 5, 2025. These are source-specific storefront and creator-announcement dates, not evidence that Chapters 3 and 4 are still upcoming. Steam’s DELTARUNE listing and the official DELTARUNE site provide the current availability information.
Choose your platform and sort out your save
Fox’s release announcement lists PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5. The best option is usually the platform you already use, especially if you want to continue a save. Fox describes import routes between Switch and Switch 2, and between PS4 and PS5; that does not establish universal cross-platform transfer. Fox’s Chapters 3+4 release announcement explains the platform-specific details.
Fox said the versions do not meaningfully differ in content amount, dialogue, setting, or music. The Switch 2 version includes a small room designed for mouse controls on two controllers; other versions use a different control scheme. Nintendo also announced a Switch-to-Switch 2 entitlement route. Check the official platform instructions for your own hardware and save before starting, rather than assuming one console’s process applies to another.

A practical 40-item preparation checklist
Use the list as suggestions, not a set of official requirements. You do not need to complete every item to play.
Game and save setup
- Choose the platform you intend to play on.
- Confirm that the chosen platform is among the versions listed in Fox’s release announcement.
- Update or download the game from the relevant storefront before you plan to start.
- Check that Chapters 3 and 4 are available in your installed version.
- If you have an earlier save, decide whether you want to carry it forward.
- If moving between Switch and Switch 2, review Fox’s stated import route.
- If moving between PS4 and PS5, review Fox’s stated import route.
- Do not assume a save can be transferred between unrelated platforms.
- On Switch 2, consider whether you want to try the small room designed for mouse controls.
- On other versions, expect the alternative control scheme Fox describes.
Story and spoiler choices
- Decide whether to replay earlier chapters before starting 3 and 4.
- If you want the story fresh in your mind, revisit the chapters you have already played.
- If you would rather jump in, make that choice without treating a replay as mandatory.
- Choose how spoiler-sensitive you are before opening social feeds.
- Mute DELTARUNE-related terms where your social platforms allow it.
- Avoid searching for character names or chapter scenes if you want fewer accidental reveals.
- Be cautious with video sites: recommendations and thumbnails can reveal story details.
- Consider avoiding social media and video websites until you have sufficiently completed the game; Fox gave this advice to players concerned about spoilers.
- Ask friends not to send plot details or screenshots if you want to discover scenes yourself.
- Decide whether you want to discuss theories while playing or only after finishing.
Time, comfort, and pacing
- Pick a time when you can focus on the game.
- Set aside a comfortable session rather than trying to rush through.
- Take breaks when you want them.
- Consider pausing between chapters; Fox personally recommended a break between chapters.
- Play at your own pace rather than matching someone else’s schedule.
- Adjust your display and audio settings for a comfortable session.
- Use the controls that feel natural on your chosen platform.
- Keep a note of puzzles or questions only if that helps you enjoy the experience.
- Give yourself room to explore instead of treating completion speed as the goal.
- Plan to return later if you feel ready for a break.
Expectations and optional extras
- Remember that DELTARUNE combines battles, puzzles, and story rather than being only a combat game.
- Know that the game offers choices to fight or spare during action-based battles.
- Expect hidden bosses to be part of the game’s broader design, but do not feel obliged to find every secret before continuing.
- Check the game’s chapter-based structure so you know it is released in installments.
- Keep in mind that the official site and Steam currently describe further chapters as planned free updates.
- Choose whether you want to play the available demo or the full game; Steam lists both.
- If you enjoy the music, consider the digital soundtrack listed on Steam.
- Do not assume a physical edition or special accessory is needed to prepare; the official pages reviewed establish digital game and soundtrack listings, not a required physical product.
- Check the official game page for current availability instead of relying on an old release countdown.
- Start when you are ready: there is no official prerequisite beyond having access to the game on a supported platform.
What preparation is actually necessary?
At minimum, choose a supported platform, install the game, and check the relevant save-import instructions if you are changing consoles. Everything else—replaying earlier chapters, avoiding spoilers, taking a break, or listening to the soundtrack—is a personal choice. Fox’s release-day newsletter specifically advised spoiler-conscious players to stay away from social media and video websites until they had sufficiently completed the game, and he recommended taking a break between chapters. The release-day newsletter has his guidance.
