2. HORI Screen Protective Filter: best thin film for the standard Switch
Best for: Standard Nintendo Switch owners who want minimal thickness and an officially licensed fit.
The HORI Screen Protective Filter for Nintendo Switch uses PET film and is officially licensed by Nintendo. HORI describes the film as made in Japan and uses a three-step center-pull application method intended to reduce dust and bubbles during installation.

The important qualification is compatibility: the retrieved product identification is “Glass Nintendo Switch,” but that wording alone does not establish support for every original Switch model. Check the live ZAGG listing for the exact supported console before ordering. Do not assume a standard Switch product fits the OLED or Lite.

The HORI Screen Protective Filter for Nintendo Switch Lite is designed for the Lite’s 5.5-inch screen. It uses PET film, is officially licensed, is described as made in Japan, and uses HORI’s center-pull application system.
For a Lite owner, the dedicated model fit matters more than choosing a popular protector designed for another Switch. The standard Switch and OLED versions are incompatible with the Lite’s smaller screen and different body.
Who should skip it?
Skip it if you specifically want tempered glass or stronger rigid-surface protection. In that case, look for a glass protector whose official listing explicitly names the Switch Lite.
Glass or film: which should you buy?
Choose tempered glass if you want
- A more rigid surface that better resists ordinary scratches and surface wear.
- A feel closer to the original glass screen.
- More confidence when the console travels in a bag with other items.
- An alignment tray or guided application system, such as Spigen’s EZ Fit design.
Glass is thicker, can crack and may interfere with a tight-fitting case. “9H” hardness, when listed by a manufacturer, does not mean the protector is unbreakable and is not a substitute for independent impact testing.
Choose PET film if you want
- The least added thickness.
- A lightweight, low-visibility layer.
- A protector that will not shatter like glass.
- Scratch protection without prioritizing rigid impact protection.
Film is not useless, but it is not equivalent to tempered glass. It is best understood as a thin wear-and-scratch barrier.

No. Nintendo says the Switch OLED has a factory-applied anti-scattering adhesive film and that owners should not peel it off. Install a compatible OLED screen protector over that film. Nintendo also says an officially licensed protector can be removed and reapplied without removing the anti-scattering film. Read the OLED Model FAQ if you are unsure whether the layer on your display is the factory film.

How to install a Nintendo Switch screen protector
Follow the protector’s included instructions first, especially if it has an alignment tray or center-pull system. For protectors supplied with selected Nintendo accessories, Nintendo’s general sequence is:
- Turn the console fully off and place it on a stable, flat surface.
- Wash and dry your hands. Clean fingerprints, dust and dirt from the screen using the supplied cleaning or dust-removal material.
- Peel the film from one side of the protector.
- Align the protector with the outer screen frame. Do not cover the speakers.
- Apply it carefully, pushing air bubbles outward with a cloth.
- Peel away the remaining protective film.
- Smooth the surface with a clean cloth.
Nintendo’s installation instructions say that if the protector is misaligned, you can use tape on a corner to lift it slowly and restart the application.
Make installation easier
- Use a low-dust room and strong side lighting.
- Apply the protector when the console is cool rather than immediately after playing.
- Do not spray liquid or household glass cleaner directly on the console.
- Do not remove the adhesive cover until you are ready to align the protector.
- Check your case’s clearance before installation, not after the edges begin lifting.
Common problems and fixes
The protector is the wrong size
Stop using it. A standard Switch protector will not correctly fit the OLED or Lite, and an OLED protector will not fit the standard Switch or Lite. A Switch 2 protector is also not interchangeable with the original Switch family. Return or replace it with the exact model version.

There is dust under the protector
Air bubbles can often be pushed toward an edge, but a bubble surrounding a visible speck is usually dust. Lift the protector slowly from a corner and use a dust-removal sticker to pick up the particle. Do not wipe the adhesive with a wet cloth. If the adhesive becomes contaminated or the protector cracks, replacement is usually the cleaner solution.
The edges are lifting
Common causes include a wrong-size protector, overlap onto the bezel, dust or fingerprints at the edge, and pressure from a case or grip shell. Remove the case and check whether the lifting stops. If it does, the case and protector combination may not have enough clearance.
The speaker is covered
Reposition the protector. Nintendo specifically warns users not to cover the console speakers.
The image looks different
Clear glossy protectors generally preserve the original appearance better, but show more reflections and fingerprints. Matte protectors can reduce reflections while slightly changing texture or apparent sharpness. Choose the finish based on your lighting and travel conditions; no specific matte model is included here without sufficiently verified model-specific evidence.

- Standard Switch or OLED, and you want glass: Buy the Spigen GLAS.tR EZ Fit in the exact console version.
- Standard Switch, and you want minimal thickness: Choose the standard HORI Screen Protective Filter.
