5 Fixes for Roblox Installer Not Working on Windows

By VGSources Team 5 min read

If Roblox does nothing when you click Play, repeatedly asks you to install it, downloads forever, or closes immediately, try these five fixes in order. Roblox has two official Windows installation routes: the Roblox.com website installer and the Microsoft Store app named Roblox – Windows. If one route fails, switch to the other.

This guide covers Roblox Player on supported 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs—not Roblox Studio, macOS, Linux, mobile devices, or unofficial launchers.

If the Roblox installer will not run, optionally use Outbyte PC Repair to scan Windows settings, temporary files, and common installation-related issues.

Check compatibility first

Roblox currently lists 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 as its supported Windows operating systems. The PC should also have at least 300 MB of free storage, DirectX 10 or higher feature-level support, and a supported browser such as Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge. Roblox recommends at least 1 GB of RAM on Windows 10 and 11 and an internet connection of approximately 4–8 Mb/s or better.

To check your Windows architecture, open Settings > System > About and look at System type. Roblox says newly released or prerelease operating systems may not be supported immediately. See the official Roblox requirements.

Fix 1: Restart Windows and close Roblox processes

A stuck Roblox or installer process can lock files and prevent a new installation. Roblox lists programs still running during installation as a possible cause of desktop problems.

  1. Close Roblox, Roblox Studio, your browser, and Microsoft Store.
  2. Select Start > Power > Restart.
  3. After Windows starts, open only one browser or Microsoft Store and retry the installation.

If the installer still disappears, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager. End only clearly identified Roblox-related processes, then try again. Do not terminate random Windows processes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the installer still closes immediately or the installation loop returns, move to Fix 2 instead of repeatedly clicking the installer.

Fix 2: Cleanly reinstall Roblox

This is appropriate for an endless install loop, an “already installed” message when Roblox will not open, or an installation interrupted by a crash or update. Roblox says most users do not need to uninstall before reinstalling, so use the deeper cleanup below only when a normal reinstall fails.

  1. Uninstall Roblox. In Windows 10, use Settings > Apps > Apps & features. In Windows 11, use Settings > Apps > Installed apps. You can also search Windows for Programs and Features.
  2. Restart the PC.
  3. Clear your browser’s temporary files and Roblox-related cookies.
  4. Reinstall from the official Roblox website: sign in, open an experience, select the green Play button, and allow the browser to launch Roblox.

If that still fails, remove Roblox’s local data after uninstalling it. Open your own Command Prompt and run:

cd AppDataLocal
rmdir /s Roblox

Confirm that the prompt is pointing to your user’s AppDataLocal folder before pressing Y. The second command permanently deletes the Roblox folder and is an escalation step—not a first-line fix. Restart Windows again before reinstalling. Roblox documents this cleanup example in its Windows troubleshooting material and explains its normal reinstall guidance.

Fix 3: Install the official “Roblox – Windows” Store app

If the website installer vanishes, loops, or installs Roblox without allowing your browser to launch it, use Microsoft Store instead. Roblox now directs Windows users to the newer app named Roblox – Windows. It has a blue icon; the older Store listing named only Roblox has a light-gray icon.

  1. Open Microsoft Store.
  2. Search for Roblox – Windows.
  3. Verify the name and blue icon before selecting Get or Install.
  4. Open the app and sign in with your normal Roblox account.

This is the same Roblox service and account, although you may need to sign in again. Roblox describes the newer app as intended to provide improved stability; that is the company’s description, not an independent performance measurement. Read Roblox’s Store-app instructions.

Fix 4: Repair Microsoft Store and its cache

If Microsoft Store shows Get, Install, or Update but never completes, the Store itself may have a cache, account, update, or app-registration problem. That does not necessarily mean Roblox is unavailable.

  1. Restart Windows, particularly if Windows Update recently installed updates.
  2. Confirm that Microsoft Store is signed in with the correct Microsoft account.
  3. Open Library > Get updates in Microsoft Store.
  4. Press Windows key + R, enter wsreset.exe, and select OK.
  5. Wait. A blank Command Prompt window may remain open for roughly ten seconds before Microsoft Store reopens.
  6. Search for Roblox – Windows and retry.

You can also repair the app. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Microsoft Store or Roblox, open Advanced options, and select Repair. If that fails, select Reset. Reset may remove local app data and sign-in information, so expect to sign in again. Microsoft recommends updating, repairing or resetting, and reinstalling Store apps when appropriate: Microsoft Store app troubleshooting.

If Roblox is missing from Store search or says it is unavailable, check the Microsoft account, region, family settings, device compatibility, and pending Windows restart. On a school or work PC, Store installation may be blocked by policy.

Fix 5: Check security software, Windows updates, and restrictions

Roblox identifies firewalls, internet-security software, corrupted temporary files, and damaged Roblox files among common desktop causes. A managed network can also block Store endpoints or Roblox traffic.

Check for a block

  1. Open your antivirus or security product’s quarantine, blocked apps, or application control section.
  2. Look for a legitimate Roblox application or recently blocked Roblox executable.
  3. If you obtained it from Roblox.com or Microsoft Store and recognize it, restore it or create an allow rule.
  4. Retry Roblox, then leave normal protection enabled.

Do not permanently disable Windows Firewall or antivirus protection, download a replacement executable, use a registry cleaner, install random DLL files, or use a third-party launcher. If you perform a temporary diagnostic security test, re-enable protection immediately afterward.

Install Windows updates

  1. Open Settings > Windows Update.
  2. Select Check for updates and install available updates.
  3. Restart the PC, even if Windows does not prominently request it.

On a school, workplace, or family-managed computer, contact the administrator rather than changing firewall, proxy, DNS, or Store policy settings yourself. Microsoft notes that blocked firewall or proxy endpoints can cause Store download failures; see its Store download troubleshooting.

Use the result to identify the remaining problem

  • Store works but Roblox.com does not: the likely issue is the browser handoff, protocol association, browser data, or website installer.
  • Roblox.com works but Store does not: investigate Store cache, account, updates, compatibility, region, or policy.
  • Both official routes fail: investigate Windows compatibility, security software, disk space, and managed-network restrictions, then contact Roblox Support.
  • Roblox installs but crashes immediately: treat this as a launch or graphics problem rather than repeatedly reinstalling.
  • You are installing Roblox Studio: Studio is a separate creator application and needs different troubleshooting.

Roblox says Linux, virtual machines, and cloud-based computers are unsupported. Windows 7 and Windows 8 are outside Roblox’s current stated supported Windows versions. Do not expect these five Windows fixes to make those environments supported.

When to contact support

Stop local troubleshooting and contact Roblox Support when both official installation routes fail after the clean reinstall and Store repair, a specific Roblox error code appears, the PC is managed by an organization, the computer does not meet the requirements, or installation succeeds but you cannot sign in or join experiences. If several users are affected at once, check Roblox’s official service-status and support channels rather than changing system files.
