Sony’s PS5 Pro pre-orders opened on September 26, 2024, initially through PlayStation Direct in the U.S., U.K. and other supported markets. The console launched on November 7, 2024, so it is no longer a pre-order product. Sony’s official PS5 Pro product page is the appropriate place to check current availability; the launch price and stock information below are historical unless explicitly stated otherwise.
PS5 Pro pre-order dates
The original pre-order schedule was:
- September 26, 2024: pre-orders opened through PlayStation Direct where the service operated.
- October 10, 2024: participating retailers were scheduled to begin taking pre-orders.
- November 7, 2024: PS5 Pro launched.
Retailer availability varied by country and changed quickly. Reports at the time said the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle sold out rapidly in the U.K., while the standard model remained available longer during the initial PlayStation Direct window. Those reports describe the 2024 launch period, not current stock.

What comes with the standard PS5 Pro?
The box includes:

- DualSense wireless controller
- HDMI cable
- AC power cord
- Horizontal stand feet
- Astro’s Playroom pre-installed

Important extra costs
No disc drive is included
PS5 Pro is an all-digital console. The separately sold PS5 Disc Drive is required to play physical PS5 games, supported PS4 game discs or physical Blu-ray and DVD media. If you own a sizeable disc library, include the drive in the total cost rather than treating it as an optional luxury.
The vertical stand is also separate
The standard console includes horizontal stand feet, but not the vertical stand. Buyers who plan to position the PS5 Pro vertically must purchase that accessory separately.
PlayStation Plus is separate
A PlayStation Plus subscription is additionally required for online multiplayer where applicable. It is not included with the console.

What is different about PS5 Pro?
Sony designed PS5 Pro as a premium performance and image-quality upgrade rather than a replacement required for every PS5 owner. Its headline technologies include:
- Upgraded GPU: more rendering power for compatible games.
- Advanced ray tracing: more detailed lighting and reflections in supported titles.
- PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR: Sony’s AI-assisted upscaling technology for improving image clarity.
- Higher or more consistent frame rates: depending on the game, display and selected mode.
- PS5 Pro Game Boost: can improve supported games, but a game being playable on PS5 Pro does not automatically mean it has a dedicated Pro enhancement.
- 2TB internal storage: more built-in space than some standard PS5 configurations.
- Wi-Fi 7: supported in territories where that standard is available.
Sony says PS5 Pro features vary by game. The benefits are therefore not uniform: one title may offer a specific enhanced mode, another may gain from Game Boost, and another may show little visible difference.

Sony highlighted PS5 Pro Enhanced or optimized support for games including:
- Alan Wake 2
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- Demon’s Souls
- Dragon’s Dogma 2
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
- Gran Turismo 7
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered
- The Crew Motorfest
- The First Descendant
This list is not a promise that every game receives the same upgrade. Check the individual game’s support and graphics options before buying specifically for one title.
Who should buy a PS5 Pro?
PS5 Pro makes the strongest case for:
- Players with a high-quality 4K display, particularly one capable of higher refresh rates.
- Players who prioritize image quality, ray-traced effects and smoother performance.
- People who regularly play several PS5 Pro Enhanced games.
- New PlayStation buyers who want Sony’s highest-end current console.
- Owners who need more internal storage and value the included 2TB SSD.
Who should keep a standard PS5?
The upgrade is harder to justify if you are happy with your current PS5, mainly play games without Pro-specific enhancements, use a 1080p display or sit far enough away that small image-quality improvements are difficult to notice.
Physical-media owners should also compare the combined price of the PS5 Pro and disc drive with a standard disc-equipped PS5. The Pro’s higher performance does not remove the cost or inconvenience of adding support for discs.
What was in the 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundle?
The limited 30th Anniversary bundle was separate from the standard $699.99 console. It included a special PS5 Pro with a 2TB SSD, matching DualSense controller, DualSense Edge controller, charging station, disc-drive console cover, vertical stand and collector items. Sony announced a production limit of 12,300 units. The disc drive itself was still sold separately.
Where to check PS5 Pro availability now
Because the pre-order period ended in 2024, use Sony’s live PS5 Pro 2TB product page or the official PS5 hardware hub for current U.S. listings. Check the displayed price, stock status, delivery estimate and any accessory requirements at the time of purchase. Do not rely on expired pre-order pages or undated “in stock” reports.
