Five games in the reviewed official sources clearly let players switch between first- and third-person views: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Grand Theft Auto V, No Man’s Sky, Starfield, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. They are verified examples, not a complete top ten: the available evidence does not establish ten titles. Platform and gameplay limitations matter, especially for GTA V and Oblivion.

Which games officially support both first and third person?

These picks meet the practical test for this list: official sources confirm a player-accessible way to change perspective, rather than a camera option limited to a special sequence or an unofficial mod.

Game What the official source confirms Important limitation
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Bethesda Support explains how to change between first- and third-person views. Bethesda Support: Skyrim controls Controls vary by platform; consult the instructions for your system.
Grand Theft Auto V Rockstar Support explains switching perspectives. The first-person camera is available in the PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and Xbox One versions. Rockstar Support: switching perspective in GTA V The listed support does not include the legacy PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.
No Man’s Sky Hello Games says the game is fully playable in both views “both on-foot and in ship.” Hello Games: NEXT Update The statement establishes those gameplay contexts, not a universal control method for every platform.
Starfield Bethesda’s tips and control references describe changing views during play, including on foot and in spaceflight. Bethesda Support: Starfield new-player tips Bethesda Support: Starfield PC controls Controls depend on input device; Bethesda lists separate mouse, Xbox, and PlayStation instructions in its tips.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Bethesda’s PC control list says clicking the mouse wheel switches between views. Bethesda Support: Oblivion PC controls This confirms the documented PC control only; it should not be assumed to describe other platforms or the remastered release.

What to know about each game

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Bethesda’s support instructions make Skyrim a direct match for players who want to alternate between first- and third-person play. The exact input depends on platform, so use the game’s controls for your system rather than relying on a single universal button.

Grand Theft Auto V

Rockstar documents a perspective switch, with first-person support on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and Xbox One. Check the edition before recommending it: Rockstar’s listed platforms do not include the original PS3 and Xbox 360 releases.

  • PLAN YOUR ASSAULT Equipped with all-new equipment, each highly replayable contract can be completed in a variety of ways. Replay the mission with a different approach to complete all objectives, ready to spend your earnings on improved gadgets and weaponry.
  • UPGRADED VISUALS Contracts 2 introduces new levels of fidelity, with optimized visuals, improved FPS, and an enhanced game engine, resulting in the best looking entry to the series yet. Pull off ultra realistic stealth kills, captured in viscerally graphic detail thanks to the cinematic bullet cam.

No Man’s Sky

The developer’s NEXT update explicitly confirms both perspectives on foot and in ships. That makes it the clearest option here for someone who wants to change camera perspective across distinct parts of gameplay, rather than only while exploring on foot.

Starfield

Bethesda recommends trying third person for a broader view while walking or flying in space, describing it as a “better look of the bigger picture.” That is a situational benefit, not a claim that one view is always better. The available control guidance covers mouse, Xbox, and PlayStation; Bethesda’s PC table also lists a Toggle POV binding for gameplay and spaceship flight.

How to choose between first and third person

Perspective is a play-style preference, and the practical value of a toggle depends on how and where a game supports it. Before choosing a game, check:

Why this is a five-game list, not a top ten

The title’s requested ten-game ranking cannot be responsibly completed from the verified examples available here. These five games are supported by official documentation; there is not enough verified evidence for five more. That does not mean no other games offer both views. It means the list should not pad its count with unverified titles, vehicle-only cameras presented as general third-person play, or modded options.
