6 Best Mice for PlayStation 5—And How to Check They Really Work

The best PS5 mouse depends on the game, connection mode, grip and onboard settings—not just DPI. Here are six strong candidates and a practical compatibility checklist.

The PS5 supports USB and Bluetooth mice, but that does not mean every mouse works in every game. Sony says compatibility varies by device, while individual developers decide whether gameplay accepts mouse input. That makes connection reliability, saved onboard settings, and game support more important than headline DPI or polling-rate figures.

These six mice are strong candidates across competitive FPS, versatile gaming, and MMO/MOBA play. They should be treated as hardware recommendations—not proof that every listed model works identically with every PS5 game. Confirm the specific connection mode and game before buying.

Quick picks

Mouse Best suited to Why consider it Main caution
Logitech G PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 Competitive FPS Lightweight, familiar symmetrical esports shape and 2.4 GHz wireless Few extra controls; PC software is important for configuration
Razer Viper V4 Pro Premium symmetrical FPS play Lightweight shape aimed at claw and fingertip users Premium pricing and unproven benefit from extreme polling modes on PS5
Logitech G PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE Feature-focused competitive play Top-tier independent PC performance and advanced click technology Expensive features may have limited value on console
SteelSeries Aerox 5 Wireless Mixed gaming genres More controls than a minimalist FPS mouse Perforated shell and side-button layout will not suit everyone
Corsair M75 AIR Wireless Lightweight FPS play Listed at 60 g and designed around fast movement Limited controls outside shooter games
Razer Naga V3 Pro MMO, MOBA and strategy games Interchangeable side plates and many shortcut buttons Heavy and excessive for minimalist FPS play

Independent PC testing places the Logitech G PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE and Razer Viper V4 Pro among the strongest current gaming and FPS performers, while the Aerox 5 Wireless is a more versatile alternative. Those rankings describe PC performance, not guaranteed PS5 compatibility. RTINGS gaming-mouse testing · RTINGS wireless-mouse testing

Does a mouse work on PS5?

Usually, at the system level. You can connect a USB mouse directly or pair a compatible Bluetooth mouse. The PS5 provides basic mouse settings such as handedness and pointer speed. Sony also warns that not every mouse is compatible. Sony’s PS5 mouse setup guide

Redragon M612 Wired RGB Optical Gaming Mouse 8000 DPI Remapping Keys
  • Pentakill, 5 DPI Levels - Geared with 5 redefinable DPI levels (default as: 500/1000/2000/3000/4000), easy to switch between different game needs. Dedicated demand of DPI options between 500-8000 is also available to be processed by software.
  • Any Button is Reassignable - 11 programmable buttons are all editable with customizable tactical keybinds in whatever game or work you are engaging. 1 rapid fire + 2 side macro buttons offer you a better gaming and working experience.
  • Comfort Grip with Details - The skin-friendly frosted coating is the main comfort grip of the mouse surface, which offers you the most enjoyable fingerprint-free tactility. The left side equipped with rubber texture strengthened the friction and made the mouse easier to control.
  • 5 Decent Backlit Modes - Turn the backlit on and make some kills in your gaming battlefield. The hyped dynamic RGB backlit vibe will never let you down when decorating your gaming space, it would be better with other Redragon accessories with lights on.
  • Fatigue Killer with Ergonomic Design - Solid frame with a streamlined and general claw-grip design offers a satisfying and comfortable gaming experience with less fatigue even though after hours of use.

There are three separate compatibility questions:

  1. Does the console recognize the mouse? This covers USB detection, Bluetooth pairing, pointer movement and basic buttons.
  2. Does the connection mode work reliably? A mouse may work wired but fail through its receiver, or pair over Bluetooth while losing features.
  3. Does the game accept mouse input? Developers decide whether mouse and keyboard controls are available. A mouse can work in PS5 menus but not during gameplay. PlayStation’s FAQ

Game updates can also change support. Check the exact PS5 or PS4 version of the game you intend to play rather than relying on a permanent compatibility list.

Which connection should you use?

Wired USB

Wired mode is the simplest baseline: there is no battery, receiver or wireless pairing to troubleshoot. It is a sensible first test for every mouse. The trade-offs are cable drag and the need to sit close enough to the console.

2.4 GHz wireless

A dedicated receiver is generally the preferred wireless mode for gaming. It avoids cable drag and usually offers more gaming-focused behavior than Bluetooth, but it occupies a USB port and must reconnect reliably after sleep, rebooting and receiver removal. A USB-A receiver may need a compatible USB-A-to-USB-C adapter or short hub.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth avoids a receiver and leaves the PS5’s USB ports free. However, many gaming mice do not support it, and Bluetooth may reduce configuration or gaming features. A device appearing in the PS5 discovery list is not proof that it is compatible; Sony specifically warns that incompatible devices can still appear there.

The six candidates

Logitech G PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2: competitive FPS candidate

The PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 is the safest shape to consider if your priority is fast FPS movement and a lightweight, symmetrical shell. It uses Logitech’s wireless ecosystem with wired fallback and has the restrained control layout many competitive players prefer.

Its limitations are equally clear. It is not designed for large numbers of shortcuts, its shape will not suit every hand, and Logitech’s PC software matters for DPI, profiles and firmware. Configure a basic onboard profile before connecting it to the PS5, then check whether the chosen DPI and button behavior persist.

Razer Viper V4 Pro: premium symmetrical option

The Viper V4 Pro is aimed at players who want a premium, symmetrical FPS mouse for claw or fingertip use. Its appeal is speed and a low-profile shape rather than palm support or a large side-button array.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not assume that its highest polling-rate settings improve PS5 play. The game, console USB behavior, display refresh rate and engine may make extreme polling modes irrelevant. Test the standard wireless mode first, and verify that the receiver reconnects after a reboot.

Logitech G PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE: premium competitive hardware

The PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE is for buyers willing to pay for newer click technology and high-end competitive hardware. Independent PC coverage places it among the strongest gaming and FPS performers.

That does not automatically make it the best PS5 purchase. If its advanced features require Logitech software or cannot be used by the console, a less expensive mouse with dependable onboard settings may be better value. It is especially difficult to justify for PS5-only buyers whose games offer basic mouse support.

SteelSeries Aerox 5 Wireless: versatile wireless choice

The Aerox 5 Wireless makes more sense than a pure esports mouse if you play shooters alongside RPGs, strategy games or titles with extra commands. Its additional controls can reduce keyboard dependence—provided the game recognizes those buttons.

The lightweight perforated shell and side-button placement are personal preferences, not universal advantages. Test for accidental presses, and do not count every button as usable until it works inside your chosen PS5 game. SteelSeries also notes that console support can depend on developer implementation. Corsair M75 AIR Wireless: lightweight alternative

The M75 AIR Wireless is a useful alternative for FPS players who want low weight without choosing one of the most expensive esports models. Corsair lists it at 60 g, and its design prioritizes fast movement over a large number of controls. Corsair announcement

That minimalist approach is a disadvantage in games that benefit from many bindings. Check whether the DPI profile, polling setting and button assignments saved through Corsair’s PC software remain active after disconnecting the mouse from the computer. Also compare current pricing on the day you buy; value depends heavily on the live price.

Razer Naga V3 Pro: specialist MMO and MOBA choice

The Naga V3 Pro is the outlier in this group. Its interchangeable side plates and high-button configuration are useful for MMO, MOBA, strategy and shortcut-heavy games where a mouse can carry many commands.

It is not a sensible default FPS recommendation. The extra hardware adds weight and can make accidental presses more likely. Its usefulness on PS5 also depends on whether the game recognizes the side buttons. Use ordinary remapping only; do not rely on automated macros in online competition. Windows Central review

What matters more than DPI

Maximum DPI is not a measure of console performance. The practical questions are whether the sensor tracks consistently, whether your preferred DPI can be saved onboard, and whether the game offers enough sensitivity control. DPI is a mouse-level setting; in-game sensitivity is controlled separately by the game.

The same caution applies to polling rate, acceleration and battery claims. PC laboratory results cannot be presented as PS5 latency measurements. Manufacturer battery figures may assume particular lighting, polling or Bluetooth conditions, so compare them only with those conditions in mind.

Shape, grip and hand size

  • Symmetrical low-profile shells: often suit claw and fingertip grips and fast FPS movement. The PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 and Viper V4 Pro fit this general category.
  • Ergonomic shells: can be more comfortable for palm or relaxed-claw users, but may feel bulky to small-hand players.
  • Many side buttons: help in MMO, MOBA and strategy games but can interfere with FPS grip and movement.
  • Left-handed use: a symmetrical silhouette does not guarantee mirrored side buttons or full left-hand functionality.
  • Weight: lighter mice help rapid flicks and direction changes; heavier models can feel more stable. Cable drag can make a light wired mouse feel heavier in practice.

PS5 setup

USB cable or 2.4 GHz receiver

  1. Turn on the PS5.
  2. Connect the mouse cable or receiver. Use a compatible adapter or hub if the receiver and preferred console port use different USB connectors.
  3. Open Settings > Accessories > Other Accessories.
  4. Set the handedness and pointer speed.
  5. Open the target game and inspect its mouse-and-keyboard settings.
  6. If the game does not detect the mouse, close and restart the game after connecting it.

Bluetooth

  1. Put the mouse into Bluetooth pairing mode.
  2. Open Settings > Accessories > General > Bluetooth Accessories.
  3. Select the mouse from the discovered devices.
  4. Confirm that it is registered and connected.
  5. If it does not reconnect, select it under registered accessories and choose Connect.

Menu wording can vary by language and system-software revision. Use Sony’s support page for the current setup guidance.

A repeatable compatibility check

Before ranking any mouse as reliable on PS5, test the exact model, SKU, receiver and firmware. Record whether you used a standard PS5, Slim or PS5 Pro, the system software version, connection type, USB port, adapter or hub, keyboard, mousepad and game version.

  1. Test wired USB.
  2. Test the supplied 2.4 GHz receiver.
  3. Test Bluetooth where available.
  4. Confirm detection in the accessories settings and pointer movement in the PS5 interface.
  5. Check left click, right click, wheel click and every side button.
  6. Reboot the console and test reconnection.
  7. Remove and reconnect the receiver.
  8. Test simultaneous keyboard-and-mouse use.
  9. Test a factory-default profile and a profile saved on a PC.
  10. In each target game, record mouse movement, primary and secondary clicks, side buttons, sensitivity options, ADS behavior and aim-assist behavior.

A useful test suite includes one confirmed mouse-supported competitive shooter, another FPS with different sensitivity behavior, a title with limited or no mouse support, and a game where side buttons have a meaningful purpose. Record the game title, PS5 or PS4 version, version number and test date. Do not turn an old compatibility list into a permanent promise.

When a mouse fails

  • Test the mouse by USB first.
  • Try another PS5 USB port.
  • Move the receiver away from a television, metal cabinet or other obstruction.
  • Update firmware on a Windows PC.
  • Save a basic onboard profile with standard buttons and moderate DPI.
  • Disable lighting and advanced polling modes during troubleshooting.
  • Restart the game after connecting the mouse.
  • Try another supported game to separate hardware failure from game incompatibility.
  • If menus work but gameplay does not, suspect game-level support.
  • If wired works but wireless does not, describe the mouse as wired-only for your PS5 setup rather than fully compatible.

Which one should you choose?

  • For competitive FPS: start with the Logitech G PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2, Razer Viper V4 Pro or Corsair M75 AIR Wireless, choosing by shape, price and verified connection behavior.
  • For premium competitive hardware: consider the Logitech G PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE only if its advanced features justify the cost for your console setup.
  • For mixed genres: the SteelSeries Aerox 5 Wireless offers a more useful control layout than minimalist FPS models.
  • For MMO, MOBA or strategy play: choose the Razer Naga V3 Pro only after confirming that the game recognizes its side buttons.
  • For the least troubleshooting: begin with wired USB, then evaluate 2.4 GHz wireless. Treat Bluetooth as a convenience option, not an automatic performance equivalent.

A mouse alone does not guarantee better results. You still need a game that supports mouse input, a comfortable sensitivity, a suitable grip and—often—a keyboard.
