For indie games that make comedy central, start with these six: they range from Yorkshire wordplay and joke-packed western role-playing to queer coming-of-age stories, comedy horror and surreal point-and-click. The list is curated, not ranked; each pick suits a different taste in humor, and the newer or darker games may not be for everyone.
Six indie comedy games, matched to your sense of humor
Comedy in games can come from dialogue, characters, slapstick, genre parody or the oddness of exploring a world. These picks use different forms, so the right starting point depends as much on what you like to play as on what makes you laugh.

1. Thank Goodness You’re Here! — Yorkshire wordplay and slapstick
Coal Supper’s hand-drawn slapformer sends a traveling salesman around the fictional northern English town of Barnsworth, taking on odd jobs and meeting its eccentric residents. The humor draws on Yorkshire setting and dialect, double entendres, and visual absurdity, with fully voiced dialogue and expressive animation carrying much of the joke.
It is a natural choice if you like comedy built from place and personality rather than a stream of detached one-liners. GameSpot’s Richard Wakeling, in a review excerpt reproduced by the Epic Games Store, called it a “hilarious comedy ‘slapformer’” and praised its voice acting and visual style. Epic lists Coal Supper as developer, Panic as publisher, and August 1, 2024 as the release date. Epic Games Store

2. West of Loathing — jokes throughout a western RPG
This 2017 indie role-playing game from Asymmetric Publications gives its western-fantasy setting a deliberately comic treatment. Its appeal is not just the occasional punchline: humor runs through the writing, characters and exploration, so players who enjoy poking around and reading dialogue have plenty to engage with between encounters.
Choose it if you want a funny game that still feels like an RPG adventure, rather than a short sequence of gags. PC Gamer describes the clever writing and humor as sustained throughout play. PC Gamer’s review

3. Butterfly Soup and Butterfly Soup 2 — heartfelt character comedy
These visual novels follow teenage girls navigating queer identity, outsider experiences and baseball. Their comedy comes through the characters and the specificity of their perspective; the coming-of-age story gives the jokes emotional context instead of making humor the only point.
They suit players who want funny, character-led writing and are open to a story about identity as well as friendship and growing up. PC Gamer describes both installments as hilarious and emphasizes their distinctive perspective. PC Gamer on Butterfly Soup

4. Laugh Track — sitcom writing with a horror edge
In this comedy-horror visual novel, you play a lead writer for a sitcom whose teenage characters are subject to a sinister ratings system. That premise puts creative decisions and the pressure to keep an audience watching inside a darker narrative frame, rather than offering uncomplicated sitcom jokes.
Steam lists Laugh Track as free-to-play and gives its release date as January 13, 2026. The developers flag potentially difficult topics, so check the game’s current content notes before playing if that matters to you. It is a better fit for players who welcome unease alongside comedy than for someone seeking a lighthearted visual novel. Laugh Track on Steam
Rank #4
5. Fever Meme — genre-hopping meta-parody
Fever Meme is a 2025 indie comedy and parody from Aimbok. It jumps between game genres and plays with the fourth wall, making its shifting format part of the joke. That approach may appeal to players who enjoy being surprised by abrupt changes more than those looking for a consistent story or tone.
Steam’s developer notes warn about photosensitivity and loud audio, and disclose AI-generated text-to-speech voice lines. Check those notes if either issue affects you. Fever Meme on Steam

6. The Many Pieces of Mr. Coo — surreal puzzles and hand-drawn whimsy
This point-and-click adventure uses hand-drawn animation and humorous puzzles to create a surreal, whimsical tone. It is the most natural pick here for players who prefer visual gags and puzzle-solving to dialogue-heavy comedy.
Check the game’s current store listing for availability and details before buying; its format and described style make it a promising fit, but its storefront information may change. The Many Pieces of Mr. Coo on Steam
How to choose the right kind of comedy game
- For regional wordplay and animated slapstick: try Thank Goodness You’re Here!.
- For a longer, exploration-led stream of jokes: choose West of Loathing.
- For heartfelt character comedy: start with Butterfly Soup.
- For comedy mixed with unease: consider Laugh Track, after checking its content notes.
- For unpredictable genre parody: try Fever Meme, bearing in mind its audio and photosensitivity warnings.
- For wordless whimsy and puzzles: look at The Many Pieces of Mr. Coo and verify current availability.
These are recommendations, not a universal ranking: a storefront tag, a critic’s review and an individual player’s suggestion do not measure the same thing. If you want more leads, players in a Steam Community discussion also suggested McPixel 3, Not for Broadcast and Jazzpunk; treat those as personal suggestions rather than picks assessed here.
