Game Freak confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed its systems in August 2024 and that personal information relating to current and former employees and others was exposed. It did not confirm the game files, prototypes or future-project details described in reports that followed. The ten items below are reported claims about material said to be circulating—not ten reveals authenticated by Game Freak.
What Game Freak confirmed
In a Japanese-language notice dated October 10, 2024, Game Freak said a third party had gained unauthorized access in August and that personal information had been leaked. The company apologized, said it was contacting affected people, and reported that it had rebuilt and inspected its server and would strengthen security measures.
The notice did not confirm that source code, development builds, design documents or plans for unreleased games were taken. Those details appeared in contemporaneous reporting around October 12–13, which described alleged contents of material circulating online. The distinction matters: an official breach confirmation does not authenticate every file or claim associated with it.
10 major claims reported about the circulating material
The following are ten reported categories and claims, not an official Game Freak inventory. Nintendo Life, GamesRadar+ and PokéBeach covered different aspects of the alleged material; their reporting does not establish that every item was independently verified or that all came from one authenticated archive.

1. Source code and development material for older games
GamesRadar+ reported that purported source code for Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver was online. Nintendo Life also relayed claims about source code for multiple Nintendo DS titles. These were reports about alleged files, not confirmation from Game Freak that the code was authentic or complete.
2. Unused and early Pokémon designs
Reports described beta sprites and concept art for Pokémon designs that did not appear in released games. Such material can offer a glimpse of how a game changed during development, but the reported images were not presented as an official, Game Freak-curated reveal.
3. Early builds of released games
PokéBeach described early builds of HeartGold and SoulSilver among the alleged contents. A development build is not the same thing as a retail release: its authenticity, completeness and intended audience were not established by the company’s notice. This reporting is not a reason to download unofficial files.

4. Internal discussions and documents
PokéBeach reported that internal discussions and documents were among the material. The reviewed coverage did not authenticate particular passages or establish the context of individual documents, so specific decisions or quotations should not be treated as settled fact on that basis alone.
5. “Gaia,” a reported future-generation codename
Early coverage associated the name “Gaia” with an internally referenced future Pokémon generation. That remains an attributed leak claim, not an official generation name, game title or announcement. A codename, even if used internally, does not establish what a finished product would be called or contain.
6. “Ounce,” a reported hardware codename
Reports associated “Ounce” with a hardware reference thought to concern Nintendo’s successor to Switch. The reviewed accounts did not include official confirmation tying that codename to a final product. It should not be read as a confirmed hardware name or specification.

7. A possible Game Freak and ILCA project
GamesRadar+ reported a possible unannounced project involving Game Freak and ILCA and speculated that it might be multiplayer. The collaboration and the project’s purpose were not officially confirmed in the reviewed material. The multiplayer idea is speculation, not an announced feature.
8. Development references to Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Nintendo Life relayed a leak claim that development was “already finished,” while GamesRadar+ described material it said indicated the game was being tested. Those accounts do not establish a definitive development status, and the phrases are not interchangeable proof that the game was ready to launch. Pokémon Legends: Z-A was officially announced separately; the alleged leak details should not be treated as an official production update.

GamesRadar+ described treatments and concept art for film and anime projects, including a possible Detective Pikachu sequel. Some reported concepts may have concerned projects that were shelved or abandoned. Concept art or a treatment shows an idea was explored; it does not prove a production was approved, completed or scheduled.

10. The breach had consequences beyond game speculation
The confirmed exposure involved personal information relating to employees and others, not just material of interest to fans. In an April 22, 2025 report, GameSpot said Nintendo had sought a court order requiring Discord to disclose information that could identify a user associated with the leak. That was a reported subpoena request, not a final court judgment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How much of the “biggest leak” framing is established?
Contemporaneous reports described a large volume of circulating material, sometimes using a roughly terabyte-scale estimate. The reviewed primary notice did not establish an archive size, and the reports do not provide an independently verified measurement. Nor is there an authoritative count confirming that these ten categories were all present in one archive. “Biggest of all time” is therefore a headline characterization, not a verified measurement or official description.
The safest way to read the story is to separate evidence by type: Game Freak’s notice confirms unauthorized access and exposure of personal information; named outlets reported alleged game and project material; and future-facing claims such as codenames, collaborations and development status remain unconfirmed unless an official announcement establishes them. The reporting named HeartGold and SoulSilver, released Nintendo DS games, but that does not authenticate any purported development files associated with them.
