These seven games offer distinct ways to play; they are a reader-fit shortlist, not a tested ranking. Windows 11 compatibility also does not mean your PC can run a game well, so compare its current official requirements with your hardware before downloading or buying.
How to choose a shooter for your Windows 11 PC
Start with the kind of match you want. Tactical shooters reward communication and deliberate positioning; arena and hero shooters emphasize coordinated action; battle royale matches center on surviving against many opponents. Then check access and hardware: free-to-play does not necessarily mean every optional item is free, and a PC that meets a game’s operating-system requirement may still fall short on graphics hardware, memory, or storage.
- Match style: Decide between rounds, respawns, arena combat, or battle royale.
- Team complexity: Consider whether you want straightforward shooting or a game with characters, abilities, and layered tactics.
- Cost and access: Check the current official listing for price, free-to-play status, and any subscription availability in your region.
- PC fit: Compare current minimum and recommended requirements against your GPU, RAM, storage, and Windows build.
Seven shooters worth considering
1. Counter-Strike 2 — for round-based tactical play
Counter-Strike 2 is a team-based tactical FPS built around rounds between Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists. It suits players who want gunfights shaped by map knowledge, sound cues, communication, and coordinated decisions rather than character abilities. Valve’s official Counter-Strike 2 page describes Premier mode and the game’s current features. Check the current listing for access details and the publisher’s system requirements before installing.
2. VALORANT — for tactical rounds with character abilities
VALORANT combines 5v5 tactical shooting with agents that have distinct abilities. It is a natural fit if you like careful round planning but also want character-specific tools to shape a fight. Riot’s official game page explains the game, while its Windows 11 TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot support page says those features are required on Windows 11. Riot’s support guidance, dated May 21, 2026, also notes that newer graphics drivers may require a newer Windows build. Confirm your PC’s security settings and current game requirements before troubleshooting an install or launch problem.

3. Overwatch — for team-based hero action
Overwatch is a team-based action shooter, with the appeal centered on coordinating with a team and choosing heroes rather than playing a conventional military FPS. Steam describes it as free-to-play and team-based on its Overwatch listing. Because live-service details and requirements can change, use the current store listing to verify what is available and whether your PC meets the requirements.
4. Apex Legends — for battle royale squad play
Apex Legends is the battle-royale option in this group: matches focus on squads competing to survive, rather than fixed short rounds or a contained arena match. It is worth considering if you want a large-map format and team play. Current PC game guides include Apex among free or online shooter recommendations, but that is not evidence of a particular player population or competitive-health level. Check the official PC listing for current access and system requirements.

The page lists Windows 11 64-bit among recommended requirements and says TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are required. It also lists an SSD, 12 GB of RAM, and an AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, or Intel Arc B580 as recommended graphics hardware. These requirements can change; check Activision’s current page before purchase or installation, and distinguish recommended specs from minimum specs.

Check Windows 11 requirements before installing
Windows 11 security requirements are title-specific; the cited Riot and Activision rules should not be assumed to apply to every shooter. For any game, compare its current official minimum and recommended requirements with your PC’s graphics card, memory, available storage, and Windows version. A machine may satisfy the OS requirement but still be below the recommended graphics or memory level.
