7 Days to Die Item IDs and Console Commands: A Version-Aware Guide

A version-aware guide to 7 Days to Die item IDs, giveself, admin permissions, moderation, world controls and console-command troubleshooting.

Use an internal item ID with giveself to add an item, and use the server permission system to control who can run commands. For example, entering giveself gunMGT1AK47 requests the item whose internal ID is gunMGT1AK47. The exact ID list and even command behavior can change between builds, so confirm syntax with help in the console running your copy of 7 Days to Die.

This guide covers item lookup, permissions, administration, world controls, version differences and recovery when a command fails. It treats published item totals as historical references rather than a guaranteed count for your installation.

What a 7 Days to Die item ID is

An item ID is the internal name the game uses for an item. It is usually a text string, not a numeric code. The rifle example gunMGT1AK47 is an ID that can be passed to a command; it is not the display name players see in the inventory.

The console does not reliably translate ordinary display names into IDs. If you enter a name that is not present in your build, the command may fail or produce no useful item. Copy the ID exactly, including capital letters and numbers, and do not add spaces inside it.

Where to find IDs

Two searchable community indexes are useful starting points:

  • commands.gg presents a paginated, searchable list of commands and item IDs.
  • 7dtd.tools provides item entries with a copy-to-clipboard workflow.

Neither list should be treated as a permanent, universal catalog. Their entries can represent different game versions, server exports or modded content. The authoritative test is whether your own console accepts the ID.

Why item counts differ between lists

Online pages report materially different totals. One result describes 1,320 IDs for V3.2, while another lists 958 items in a V3.3.0 dedicated-server export. Those figures are not reconciled, and the publisher of either number was not confirmed. They may count different object types, omit internal entries, or reflect different snapshots.

Reported figure Stated coverage How to use it
1,320 item IDs V3.2; year and publisher not stated Historical indication only, not a guaranteed total
958 items V3.3.0 dedicated-server export; year and publisher not stated Evidence that a server export can contain a different set
Command reference dated September 28, 2026 Described as covering V3.1.0 Useful reference, but its version description conflicts with newer-version pages

Do not decide that an ID is invalid merely because it is absent from one website. First check the version represented by the list, then test the command in your own installation.

How to give yourself an item

The common method is the giveself console command followed by an item ID. Use the following procedure on a test world before changing a long-running server.

  1. Identify the build. Note whether you are playing a local game or joining a dedicated server, and record the displayed game version. An ID list made for another build may be incomplete or use different names.
  2. Find the exact internal ID. Search one of the indexes above, or use an ID supplied by a trusted administrator. Copy only the ID, not the display label or surrounding punctuation.
  3. Open the in-game console. Use the console access method supported by your platform and build. If you are not sure that the console is enabled, consult the game’s own controls or server instructions rather than guessing a key.
  4. Enter the command. For the rifle example, type giveself gunMGT1AK47 and submit it. The command must be entered by a player whose permission level allows it.
  5. Check the result. Look in the expected inventory location and read any console response. A successful response, an inventory change or both may be shown depending on the build.
  6. Confirm unsupported arguments safely. If you need quantity, quality or another option, type help giveself first. Do not assume that an argument documented for a different release is accepted by your server.

Published command references establish the command-plus-ID form, but they do not establish a universal syntax for quantity, quality, durability or spawning a particular block variant. Treat those as build-specific options and let your console’s help text define them.

Permission levels and administrator access

Commands are permission-gated. A player can run a command when that player’s current level meets the command’s required level. Level 0 is the maximum permission. A user with no explicitly assigned level defaults to 1000, so an ordinary player normally cannot run commands restricted to administrators.

Granting administrator rights

On a server where you are authorized to administer players, use:

admin add <name, entity id or platform id> 0

The target can be a player name, an entity ID or a platform ID. The final 0 assigns the maximum permission level. Names containing spaces or characters that your build treats specially may require the exact quoting or escaping shown by help admin; do not invent a quoting style if the command rejects the entry.

Finding the correct player identifier

Use:

lpi

lpi lists connected players and their IDs. Copy the identifier from that output when a name is ambiguous, duplicated or difficult to type. The list is especially useful on dedicated servers, where the account name shown in the player list may not match the platform identifier used by an administration command.

Checking and changing command permissions

To inspect the current requirement for each command, enter:

cp list

To set a per-command permission, use the command’s cp set form shown by your own help output. Because the exact argument order and accepted command names can vary by release, verify it with:

help cp

Lower numbers represent greater authority in this model: level 0 is the most powerful, while level 1000 is the ordinary default. Giving a command a low requirement makes it available to more players, so change only the specific command you intend to delegate.

Where administrator settings are saved

On dedicated servers, administrator data is persisted in serveradmin.xml. A restart should therefore retain an administrator assignment when the server is writing its configuration normally. If an assignment disappears, verify that you edited or changed the active server instance, that the process could write its configuration, and that you restarted the same world and server profile.

Moderating players without damaging a session

Kick versus ban

Use kick for a temporary removal when a player needs to reconnect or correct a problem. Use ban when you need a time-limited block. Ban durations can be expressed in minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years, but the command’s exact target-and-duration order is version-sensitive. Enter help ban and copy the syntax displayed by that server.

Using kickall

kickall affects every connected player, including people who were not involved in the incident. It is appropriate for a planned maintenance window only after announcing the reason and timing. For a single player, use kick instead.

World and server controls

Save before a risky change

Run saveworld (or its sa alias where supported) before changing time, weather, permissions or player access. A save is not a substitute for a separate backup, but it reduces the chance that a recent legitimate change is still only in memory when you restart.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Changing time and weather

settime changes the world clock and weather changes weather conditions. Both can affect every player in the world. The references do not establish one universal argument format or a complete list of weather values, so use help settime and help weather on the active server before entering a value copied from another version.

Shutting down cleanly

Use shutdown for a deliberate server stop after notifying players and saving. Avoid treating a forced process termination as equivalent: it can interrupt writes and make it harder to determine whether the most recent world state was stored.

Diagnosing failed commands

“Unknown command” or missing help

Enter help by itself to display the commands recognized by your console, then try help <command>. If the command is absent, the reference you used may target another release, a different server type or a modded environment. Do not keep retrying a syntax that your own help screen does not list.

Permission denied

Check your level with the server administrator, run cp list if you have permission to inspect it, and confirm that the intended account—not a similarly named player—was added. On a dedicated server, check that the assignment was written to the active serveradmin.xml and reconnect after a change if the server requires it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The item ID produces no item

Re-copy the ID and compare capitalization. Confirm that the list matches your build and that you entered giveself followed by the ID, with a single space. If the ID still fails, run help giveself and test an item known to exist in the current list. A page’s total count is not proof that every listed entry is available on your server.

A command works locally but not on a dedicated server

Local and dedicated environments can expose different exports and permission files. Verify that you are entering the command in the server console or as a player with the required level, and compare the dedicated server’s own help output rather than copying assumptions from a local game.

Players lose progress after administration

Use saveworld before maintenance, wait for the server to complete its response, and then use shutdown rather than terminating the process. If progress is still missing, record the command, time and server instance involved; this information helps distinguish a save timing issue from a version or configuration problem.

A practical, version-safe workflow

  1. Record the exact game and server version.
  2. Use a searchable ID list only to locate candidate internal names.
  3. Check help giveself and test one ID in a disposable world.
  4. For administration, run lpi, identify the target precisely and grant only the required level.
  5. Run cp list before changing command permissions.
  6. Save with saveworld before time, weather, moderation or shutdown operations.
  7. Document any command that behaves differently from the reference, because that behavior may be specific to your build.

The most reliable rule is simple: online lists help you discover names, but the console attached to your own 7 Days to Die build decides which IDs, arguments and permissions are valid.
