For PC players, these seven options cover those different jobs—not a universal ranking. Check each mod’s current requirements and compatibility before installing; game updates can disrupt older mods, and face presets may need several supporting assets to match their screenshots.
Before choosing: body, face, and outfit tools do different jobs
A body replacer changes body shape; it does not automatically improve facial features. Face textures change skin appearance, sculpting tools add or expand character-shape controls, and presets provide saved looks that may depend on other assets. BodySlide and Outfit Studio are tools for building body and outfit shapes rather than standalone character overhauls.

This is a PC-centered guide. The examples below are not a guarantee that every mod is current, compatible with every Fallout 4 version, or available on every platform. Nexus-hosted PC mods and F4SE utilities have their own requirements; do not assume they are available through the in-game Creations menu or on consoles.
Seven options, grouped by what they change
1. Caliente’s Beautiful Bodies Enhancer (CBBE): a female body framework
Caliente’s Beautiful Bodies Enhancer (CBBE) is a female body-replacer framework, not a face mod. It is a body-shape option for players who want to use CBBE-compatible outfits or other packages built around it. CBBE is not required for every player or every body setup; check the requirements of the outfit or add-on you plan to use.

2. BodySlide and Outfit Studio: build body and clothing shapes
BodySlide and Outfit Studio are used to generate body and outfit shapes. They are especially relevant when you want clothing to match a chosen body shape rather than rely on an unbuilt default. Some related features and packages require generated files, so follow the specific mod’s build instructions.
3. LooksMenu: customize characters in-game
LooksMenu adds in-game character customization, saved and loaded presets, overlays, skin overrides, NPC BodyGen, and CBBE BodySlide morphs when the required morph files are generated. Its author lists Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE) as a requirement and provides a game-version table; use that table to check your exact Fallout 4 and F4SE versions rather than assuming an unlisted version is supported.

To enable the in-game BodySlide morph feature, the mod author instructs users to build with the “CBBE Zeroed Sliders” preset and tick “Build Morphs” in BodySlide. This is a specific LooksMenu setup requirement, not a general instruction for every body mod.
4. Enhanced Facial Sculpting: more face-shape controls
Enhanced Facial Sculpting is described in a Fallout 4 mod-list guide as extending vanilla and LooksMenu plastic-surgery sculpting options. It is the relevant category if you want to shape facial features rather than just change skin texture. Check its own mod page for current requirements and compatibility before installing.

5. Valkyr Female Face and Body Textures: change skin appearance
Valkyr Female Face and Body Textures is a texture option for face and body appearance. Preset pages may treat the body texture as optional while recommending the face texture to reproduce the look shown. Texture choice is therefore partly a matter of preference and partly a dependency question: check the requirements of any preset you intend to use.
6. Looks Menu Customization Compendium: additional customization assets
Looks Menu Customization Compendium appears among assets and requirements referenced by face-preset pages. Think of it as an extra customization resource, not a standalone face overhaul and not a universally required addition. Install it when a specific preset or mod lists it as a requirement.

7. Diverse CBBE BodyGen: varied NPC body types
Diverse CBBE BodyGen is aimed at NPC variety rather than only changing the player character. Its author, broken9bot, describes “33 young & old female body types” generated for NPCs through F4SE and LooksMenu. That figure is the mod author’s description, not an independent measurement. The page lists BodySlide and Outfit Studio and CBBE as hard requirements and says the mod was tested on Fallout 4 1.10.163; that test statement does not establish compatibility with other versions.

If you are asking, “What are the best face mods to use?”, start by deciding whether you want a texture change, more sculpting controls, or a ready-made preset. Those are different solutions, and a preset’s screenshot is not a reliable preview if its supporting assets are missing.

- For a different skin look: choose a face texture and check whether it is compatible with your chosen body textures.
- For hands-on reshaping: consider a sculpting extension, and verify its requirements on the mod page.
- For a ready-made character: check the preset’s full dependency list, including face sculpting, hair, eyes, makeup, and texture assets. A curated mod list warns that presets can look different without their requirements.
For example, one preset page lists Extended Facial Sculpting as a requirement. Treat that as a dependency of that preset, not a requirement for every face customization setup. Do not expect a preset image to match unless you have its listed asset stack.
Check version, platform, and installation requirements
- Identify your game version and platform. For LooksMenu, compare your Fallout 4 and F4SE versions with the compatibility table on its mod page. A table does not guarantee support for versions it does not list.
- Read the current requirements on each mod’s own page. Check required frameworks, tools, and other assets before installing a body, preset, or NPC variation package.
- Build the files that a feature needs. LooksMenu’s in-game BodySlide morph feature requires generated morph files; its author specifies the “CBBE Zeroed Sliders” preset and “Build Morphs” setting.
- Recheck after a game update. Bethesda Support says Fallout 4’s Mods and Creation Club menus were combined into the unified Creations menu with the Anniversary Edition launch on November 10, 2025. Bethesda warns: “Please be aware that if the game has been recently updated, Creations Club items/Mods that you have installed previously may not work properly until they are updated by the Creator.” The warning concerns in-game Creations items; Nexus PC mods and F4SE utilities have separate requirements and compatibility considerations.
What this list can—and cannot—tell you
These options serve different purposes, so there is no evidence-backed single winner for every player. The cited pages describe mod functions, author-stated requirements, and intended uses; they do not provide controlled performance or quality comparisons. Choose by the appearance change you want, then verify current files, platform availability, dependencies, and game-version compatibility on the relevant mod pages.
