For the same offbeat indie-RPG spirit in a different form, choose based on what you liked most: oddball worlds, emotional storytelling, unusual structure, or memorable characters. These games are recommendations, not eight exact substitutes; their similarities range from a direct story connection to a shared narrative or indie sensibility.
Eight games to play after Undertale
1. Deltarune: the closest follow-up
Deltarune is the clearest next choice because its official Steam listing calls it “the parallel story to UNDERTALE!” It features a new cast alongside familiar characters, and its battles include bullet-dodging. Steam lists Chapters 1–5 as available and says more are planned as free updates, so the story should not be treated as complete. That listing gives June 4, 2025 as the release date; it does not guarantee when future chapters will arrive. DELTARUNE on Steam

2. EarthBound: an older, oddball RPG
If you want to explore the older RPG lineage often mentioned in recommendations for Undertale, try EarthBound. Its appeal here is the unconventional, offbeat RPG sensibility, not a promise that its combat or structure matches Undertale. Pocket Tactics’ recommendations and Virginia.game’s list include it among related games.
3. OMORI: an emotional, story-forward RPG
OMORI is a fit if the emotional and narrative side of Undertale mattered more to you than finding another game with the same battle system. It has a different tone, so check its current store-page content notes before playing if you want to avoid darker material. The recommendation overlap is supported by lists and player discussions, not a claim that the games are mechanically alike.
#1 Best Overall
- Introducing the Nintendo Switch, an indie game that has recorded the huge hit around the world
- Explore the world of RPG with fun characters in Henteko Whether you defeat or miss your opponents, it's all up to you
- Can the child of carrot fall into the underground world where monsters live with Or will you be trapped forever
4. OneShot: a distinctive indie adventure
OneShot is frequently recommended to Undertale fans as another distinctive indie experience. The useful comparison is its place in that recommendation conversation; the available descriptions do not establish a detailed mechanic-by-mechanic match. Go in expecting its own identity rather than a second version of Undertale.
5. LISA: The Painful: harsh choices and lasting consequences
Choose LISA: The Painful if you want an RPG where choices carry lasting consequences and you are comfortable with a much bleaker tone. Steam describes the Definitive Edition as a post-apocalyptic RPG in which choices permanently affect gameplay. The edition includes added content and an optional Painless (Story) mode. It is a deliberately harsher recommendation, not a lighthearted stand-in for Undertale. LISA: The Painful on Steam
6. In Stars and Time: a party RPG built around a time loop
In Stars and Time follows Siffrin and their adventurer friends as they repeatedly relive events. Each loop changes what Siffrin understands and can do, making it a strong choice if you value party relationships and repeated attempts that reveal new context. Steam lists insertdisc5 as developer, Armor Games Studios as publisher, and November 20, 2023 as the release date. Its listing also includes soundtrack and artbook options in a bundle; storefront contents can change. In Stars and Time on Steam

7. Night in the Woods: character writing over RPG combat
Night in the Woods is the option for readers drawn to character writing and a grounded, dialogue-driven story. It is described as a coming-of-age narrative with dialogue choices and minigames, rather than a conventional Undertale-like RPG. Think of the resemblance as narrative tone and memorable characters, not combat.
8. Moon: Remix RPG Adventure: an unconventional RPG perspective
Moon: Remix RPG Adventure is an older, unusual alternative for players curious about an unconventional perspective on RPGs and nonviolent play. It appears in recommendation coverage for Undertale, but that connection is not a guarantee of the same battle system or structure.
