The researched FM24 guide supports eight Championship-based young-player targets—not nine. This save-aware shortlist covers options from defence to attack, with guide-era price estimates to help you match candidates to your squad and budget. Treat the figures as starting points, not guaranteed asking prices: clubs, availability and transfer costs can change with your database update and career path.
How to use this FM24 shortlist
“Wonderkid” is a scouting shorthand, not a promise that a player will become a star. FM Scout defines its own FM24 list as players aged 20 or younger on 3 July 2023 with potential ability (PA) of at least 150, but it notes that many players have variable potential and will not meet that threshold in every save. Its recommendation ratings are the site’s assessments, not official Sports Interactive ratings.

This article uses the players and guide estimates in Twinfinite’s 1 November 2023 list, which was scouted using the “Your World” career pathway. The amounts are that guide’s estimates in pounds, not fixed fees or independently verified prices for every database or platform. Twinfinite warns that values can shift between saves and even from week to week; its three career-path choices can also affect clubs, availability and cost.

The older guide’s clubs and ranges should therefore be checked in the save you plan to play.

Jake Batty — left-sided defence
Batty is the lower-cost defensive option on this list in the guide’s estimates, and his listed D/WB (L) role points to left-back or left wing-back coverage. Consider him if your squad needs depth on that side and you can give a young defender room to develop. The unusually broad £50K–£4M range makes checking the actual asking price in your save especially important.

In addition, a number of new ‘real world’ transfer clauses have been added, such as the facility to loan a player back to the club he’s just been bought from and the option to offer a combination of cash and loan players, as well as new contract clauses such as a sub bench appearance fee. On top of this, the old ‘turn-based’ system of transfer negotiations can now be done two ways, the tried and tested system and a new ‘live’ system, similar to that used in FM’s contract negotiations.

Diogo Monteiro — centre-back
Monteiro is listed as a central defender at Leeds, with an estimated range of £4.4M–£6.4M. He is the clearest centre-back-specific pick here. Whether he is ready to start or better suited to gradual development is not established by the guide, so inspect his attributes, personality, contract and role suitability in your database before deciding how much to spend.

Ba is the central-midfield choice, listed at Sunderland with a guide estimate of £1.1M–£4.3M. That range makes him worth checking for clubs shopping below the higher estimates attached to the attacking options. Use your tactical requirements—not the wonderkid label alone—to determine whether his in-game profile fills the specific midfield role you need.

Carlos Alcaraz — central attacking midfield
Alcaraz is listed as an attacking midfielder through the middle at Southampton. His £11M–£15.5M estimate puts him among the more expensive targets here, so he is a better fit for a club able to commit a substantial share of its budget to an attacking role. The guide does not establish a save-matched comparison of readiness or likely competition for his signature.
Yaser Asprilla — flexible attacking midfield
Asprilla’s AM (RLC) listing suggests coverage across attacking-midfield positions, and the guide places him at Watford with an £8.2M–£10M estimate. That positional flexibility may be useful if you rotate your wide attackers or use more than one attacking shape. Confirm his exact role familiarity and availability in your save rather than assuming every listed position is equally effective.
Jonathan Rowe — wide attacking roles
Rowe is listed at Norwich as an AM (RL), making him a candidate for either attacking flank. Twinfinite’s £13M–£15.5M estimate places him in the higher-cost group. If you are weighing him against a more versatile or cheaper target, compare the in-game attributes and tactical fit you need; the source does not provide a controlled ranking of the players.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWilfried Gnonto — central attack or striker
Gnonto’s listing covers AM (C) and striker, giving him a different kind of role flexibility from the wide options. The Leeds player carries a guide estimate of £13M–£18.5M, the highest upper estimate in this shortlist. That makes him a substantial commitment for many Championship budgets; check whether the role you want is available and affordable in your career.

Sonny Finch — striker
Finch is the dedicated striker on this list, listed at Middlesbrough with a £6M–£8.8M estimate. Consider him if your priority is adding a young forward rather than another attacking midfielder. The guide does not establish his first-team readiness or compare his likely development path with other strikers, so judge those questions from the profile in your save.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choosing a target for your club
The list spans left-back/wing-back, centre-back, central midfield, attacking midfield and striker. Start with the vacancy in your squad, then use the estimates to filter candidates against your budget. Do not treat the ranges as a ranking of quality or a promise of availability: they are guide figures from one career setup, and the sources do not provide a save-matched comparison of first-team readiness or competition for each signing.
- Need defensive cover? Check Batty for the left side or Monteiro for centre-back.
- Need a central midfielder? Ba is the only player listed in that role.
- Need attacking-midfield options? Compare Alcaraz centrally, Asprilla across the listed attacking-midfield positions, Rowe on either flank and Gnonto centrally or up front.
- Need a striker? Finch is listed as a striker, while Gnonto also has that role in the guide.
- Working to a strict budget? Compare your save’s actual asking price and total deal cost, not just the lower end of a guide estimate.
Why this list has eight players, not nine
The accessible Twinfinite guide text substantiates eight Championship examples. It does not substantiate a ninth name, so adding one would risk presenting an unverified player as a matching recommendation. FM Scout’s larger resource reports loading more than 476,000 players and including approximately 817 FM24 wonderkids after its third revision, but those totals do not establish which additional player belongs in this specific Championship shortlist. Its criteria and variable-potential caveat are useful context, not proof of a ninth candidate.
