The eight-game list behind “8 Upcoming 2026 Games That Might Steal GTA VI’s Thunder” is now out of date. It was published in August 2025, and current release-calendar listings put some of its titles in the past and Fable in 2027. Of the eight, Phantom Blade Zero is listed for October 29, 2026—before Grand Theft Auto VI’s announced November 19 date—but that schedule is not proof either game will draw players from the other.
What changed since the original 2026 list?
The August 9, 2025 article from The Filibuster Blog named 007: First Light, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Gears of War: E-Day, Pragmata, Fable, Phantom Blade Zero and Resident Evil Requiem as anticipated 2026 games. That is best read as a snapshot of expectations at the time, not as a current release calendar.

GamesRadar’s release calendar lists Onimusha: Way of the Sword for September 4, 2026, and Resident Evil Requiem for February 27, 2026—both dates have passed as of October 7. The same calendar places Fable in 2027 and Phantom Blade Zero on October 29, 2026. A calendar listing is not an official confirmation, and a past scheduled date alone does not establish whether a game actually released. Check each publisher’s current announcement before relying on a date or status.

Rockstar has announced Grand Theft Auto VI for November 19, 2026. Take-Two’s release table dated May 21, 2026 lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. These are the announced date and platforms in those sources; release plans can change. See Rockstar’s announcement and Take-Two’s release table.

The following descriptions reflect how the 2025 article presented the games, not a current verification of their features, platforms, or release status. The reviewed current calendar information does not establish dates or statuses for several of them.

Could any of them steal GTA VI’s thunder?
“Steal the thunder” can mean different things: winning headlines, occupying players’ time, or outperforming another game commercially. The available evidence supports no sales or audience ranking among these titles and GTA VI. It does show why timing is worth watching: if the October 29 listing holds, Phantom Blade Zero would be scheduled three weeks before GTA VI’s announced November 19 date. A close release window can create a crowded period, but it does not establish that one game will displace the other.
An August 31, 2026 EL PAÍS analysis discusses games moving around GTA VI and a busy September–October calendar. That is journalistic analysis of scheduling pressure, not comparative sales evidence. Release dates can shift, and a schedule alone cannot tell us how players will divide their attention.
