If WickedWhims stopped working after a Sims 4 patch, first turn its mod settings back on: patches automatically disable them. In Game Options > Other, enable both Enable Custom Content and Mods and Script Mods Allowed, apply the changes, then restart the game. If it still fails, check compatibility, file placement, duplicate copies, and conflicts with other mods using the steps below.
1. Check your Sims 4 version against the creator’s compatibility notice
A game patch can make a mod incompatible until its creator updates it. Check your installed Sims 4 version and compare it with the current compatibility information on TURBODRIVER’s WickedWhims download page. Do not assume a particular WickedWhims release supports your patch simply because the game launches or the mod files are present; compatibility can change with updates.

If the creator has not confirmed support for your game version, wait for an update or guidance before treating other troubleshooting steps as proof the mod is broken. A patch-specific mod list can be useful context, but a listing alone does not establish WickedWhims compatibility.

2. Turn Custom Content and Mods back on
Sims 4 patches automatically turn off enabled mod settings. In the game, open Game Options > Other, select Enable Custom Content and Mods, and apply the change. The creator’s installation documentation explains that this setting is switched off whenever a game patch is downloaded: WickedWhims installation instructions.

3. Allow script mods and restart the game
In the same Game Options > Other menu, also select Script Mods Allowed, then apply the changes and restart Sims 4. This is a separate setting from enabling Custom Content and Mods, and WickedWhims needs script mods allowed. Check both settings again after future game patches.
4. Check the installation folder depth
Open Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods. The creator’s instructions specify that the WickedWhimsMod folder containing the mod’s PACKAGE and TS4SCRIPT files should be placed directly in Mods. If the files are buried several folders deep, the game may not find them. Re-extract the download if needed, then place the supplied folder at the correct level.

5. Remove old or duplicate WickedWhims files
Search the entire Mods folder for older or duplicate WickedWhims copies. Keep one clean installation rather than mixing files from different releases. Old copies can leave the game loading the wrong files or produce symptoms that look like a general mod failure. After removing duplicates, install the current version indicated by the creator’s compatibility information.
6. Confirm Sims 4 detects both mod components
In Sims 4, open Game Options > Other > View Custom Content. Check that the game lists:

If either entry is missing, revisit the download extraction, folder location, and mod settings. This check confirms the game sees the files; it does not by itself confirm they are compatible with your current patch.
7. Test WickedWhims without other mods
Temporarily remove other mods and custom content from the Mods folder, leaving WickedWhims installed, then launch the game and test the same behavior. The creator cautions that removing only WickedWhims is not a valid way to test whether a conflict caused the issue; isolate WickedWhims from other mods instead. Script mods and non-script custom content can both contribute to conflicts.

If WickedWhims works by itself
Another mod or custom-content file is the likely source of the conflict. Add the removed files back in small batches, testing after each batch; if the issue returns, narrow that batch down one file at a time. Check for updated releases of the mods implicated. A conflict-detector result does not reliably rule out broken or outdated files.

If WickedWhims still fails by itself
Prioritize the game-version compatibility notice, installation structure, and game-level troubleshooting. If the game does not list the tuning and script components, return to the installation checks before investigating save data.

8. Consider broader game or save issues only after the checks
If the current creator guidance, settings, installation, and isolation test do not resolve the problem, consult the current WickedWhims support and documentation and EA support. Updated mods can still conflict, and modded save data may sometimes need cleanup. Treat that as a last resort: saving without mods can remove modded skills, moodlets, traits, and objects. If you try a remedy that affects modded content, use a separate save slot so you can return to the original save.
What EA’s update notes do—and do not—say
EA’s March 23, 2026 update notes described a fix for a launch issue affecting 2% of players using specific types of custom content under certain circumstances. That figure is not a WickedWhims failure rate, and the update does not establish that WickedWhims is compatible with any particular Sims 4 patch. Check the creator’s current notice for your installed game version.
