The eight game picks behind this title cannot be verified from the accessible article excerpt, so naming them—or claiming how well they run on Steam Deck—would risk misleading readers. What can be established is how to check a 2025 release’s current Deck compatibility before you buy or play it.
What the Steam Deck compatibility labels mean
Valve reviews games for Steam Deck and assigns one of four labels. The label is a guide to the experience, not a permanent guarantee: Valve says reviews are ongoing, and new games and updates can change a game’s status.
- Verified: The game works well on Deck out of the box.
- Playable: The game works, but may need manual adjustment.
- Unsupported: The game is currently nonfunctional on Deck.
- Unknown: Valve has not checked the game.

What Verified checks beyond whether a game launches
Valve’s Verified criteria cover four areas, so launchability alone is not enough to explain the rating:

- Input: Full controller support, suitable controller icons, and the on-screen keyboard appearing automatically when needed.
- Display: Support for the Deck’s default 1280×800 or 1280×720 resolution, sensible defaults, and legible text.
- Seamlessness: No compatibility warnings and a launcher that can be navigated with a controller.
- System support: Compatibility with Proton and relevant middleware, including anti-cheat where applicable.

How to check a 2025 game before choosing it
- Find the game in the Steam store or your Steam library and check the Steam Deck compatibility details shown there.
- Read the label as a snapshot of Valve’s current review, not a promise that will never change. Recheck after significant game or Deck software updates if compatibility matters to you.
- For a game marked Playable, look for the specific adjustment it needs, such as a control change or a launcher step. The label means some manual adjustment may be needed; it does not, by itself, identify which one.
- For Unknown games, treat compatibility as unconfirmed rather than assuming they work or fail. For Unsupported games, Valve’s current assessment is that they are nonfunctional.
Why this is not a verified list of eight picks
The accessible result for the titled roundup describes personal recommendations of games released in 2025, but does not expose the eight game names. Its destination could not be retrieved. A separate Steam Deck HQ roundup published December 29, 2025 discusses its own author’s selections and approach; it does not establish which games appeared in this article, so it cannot verify or replace the missing picks.

There is therefore no sound basis here to name the eight games, rank them, or make game-specific claims about frame rate, settings, battery life, or compatibility. A Valve label can help assess a particular game, but it cannot identify the selections in an unavailable recommendation list.
