If Halo Infinite crashes on startup on PC, the right fix depends on where it was installed and when it closes. Note whether you use Steam, Microsoft Store, or the Xbox app, and whether the crash happens before the title screen, during loading, or after launch. Start with the matching steps below: Halo Support documents different file-repair paths for each storefront, plus a few narrowly applicable launch issues. None is a guaranteed fix for every crash.
1. Check your PC hardware and graphics driver
Halo Support’s PC specifications page, updated December 12, 2024, lists these minimum requirements: Windows 10 RS5 x64, an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel i5-4440 processor, an AMD RX 570 or Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti graphics card, 4 GB or more of VRAM, 8 GB or more of RAM, and an SSD with at least 50 GB of available storage. Meeting minimum specifications does not guarantee that the game will launch without crashing.
To identify your graphics card, open Start, search for dxdiag, open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, and select the Display tab. Halo Support recommends using current PC graphics drivers; if you have trouble installing a driver, consult the graphics-card manufacturer’s support. See Halo Infinite PC hardware specs and driver guidance.
2. Restart the PC and check for a game update
Close Halo Infinite and its launcher, restart the PC, then check the launcher’s library or update queue for a game update. This is a sensible first check, but Halo Support’s reviewed guidance does not identify restarting or updating as a guaranteed fix for a specific startup crash. If the crash continues, use the file-repair instructions for your storefront.

3. Verify Halo Infinite’s files in Steam
Halo Support says file corruption can happen during installation or a game update, and may appear as a crash without an error message. For a Steam installation:
- Open Steam Library.
- Right-click Halo Infinite and choose Properties.
- Select Local Files, then Verify Integrity of Local Game Files.
- When verification finishes, restart the PC and try launching the game again.
More detail is available in Halo Support’s PC file corruption troubleshooting guide.

4. Repair the Microsoft Store installation
For a copy installed through Microsoft Store, use Windows’ app repair option:
- Open Windows Apps & Features.
- Select Halo Infinite, then open Advanced Options.
- Choose Repair and test the game once the process completes.
If repair does not resolve the problem, Halo Support advises uninstalling the game and downloading it again.

If you installed Halo Infinite through the Xbox app, use its built-in repair flow:
- Open the Xbox app library and select Halo Infinite.
- Choose More actions > Manage > Files.
- Select Verify and Repair.
- After the process completes, launch the game to check whether the crash remains.
6. Check for the Easy Anti-Cheat installation issue
Halo Support identifies a rare case where Easy Anti-Cheat is not installed, preventing the game from launching. If you use Steam, first verify the game files using the steps above. If that does not help—or your copy is from Microsoft Store or the Xbox app—Halo Support says uninstalling and reinstalling can trigger Easy Anti-Cheat’s installation process. This is a conditional fix for a launch failure, not a reason to manually download or reinstall anti-cheat software from another source. See Halo Infinite Multiplayer Known Issues.

7. Check Comodo only if you use it
Halo Support lists Comodo Antivirus as a possible launch blocker for PC copies installed through Microsoft Store or the Xbox app. If both conditions apply, manually add Halo Infinite to Comodo’s Excluded Applications list. This guidance is specific to Comodo and those installation sources; it is not a general recommendation to disable antivirus protection.

This workaround applies to a specific Steam campaign startup issue: Halo Support says the game may crash at launch if both the Campaign and Multiplayer High-Res Texture Packs are not installed. It is not a general performance tweak.
