Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →A green screen on a PS5 is a picture symptom, not a confirmed Sony fault code. It does not by itself identify a failed component. Work through the checks below in order: verify the display connection first, then test Safe Mode options, and reserve resets or repair escalation for later.
1. Check the display input and HDMI connections
Make sure the TV or monitor is powered on and set to the HDMI input used by the PS5. Check that the HDMI cable is firmly seated at both the console and display. Sony’s PS5 troubleshooting guidance starts with basic display and connection checks for picture or sound issues.
2. Connect the PS5 directly to the display
Temporarily remove an AV receiver, capture device, HDMI splitter, or other audio/video equipment between the PS5 and screen. Connect the console directly to the TV or monitor. This checks whether something in the signal path is involved; it does not establish that the console itself is faulty if the image remains green.
3. Try a different HDMI port and cable
Connect the PS5 to another HDMI input on the display, then test with another cable if one is available. Sony recommends trying another port and cable. Its support page says the PS5 supports HDMI 2.1 specifications and 4K 120Hz video output, and recommends the included HDMI 2.1 cable for high-performance features; an older HDMI cable can still be used. A cable swap is a diagnostic check, not a guaranteed fix.

7. Update system software; treat resets as a last resort
Safe Mode can update PS5 system software directly or from a USB drive. Before choosing a reset, read its effect on stored content: the options are not interchangeable.
| Safe Mode option | Effect on data |
|---|---|
| Restore Default Settings | Does not delete content such as games, apps, screenshots, video clips, or saved data. |
| Reset PS5 | Deletes all user data and restores the console to its original state. |
| Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) | Deletes user data and removes the installed system software as part of reinstallation. |
Back up important data before either reset. Sony’s Safe Mode guide distinguishes the non-erasing default-settings option from the data-deleting reset choices.

If the image is still green after the relevant connection and Safe Mode checks, use PlayStation Repairs to find Sony’s next steps. The official guidance reviewed here does not establish a single cause or promise a particular repair outcome. A green screen alone is not evidence that the HDMI port, graphics hardware, or any other specific component has failed.
