Virgil van Dijk tops this nine-player shortlist of the best centre-backs in EA SPORTS FC 25, with a base overall rating of 90. The ranking follows the centre-back entries in FIFA Index’s FC 25 defenders table and orders them by overall rating; it is not a judgment that one player is best for every formation or game mode.
How this FC 25 centre-back ranking works
The list uses the base overall ratings and position labels in FIFA Index’s FC 25 top-rated defenders table. These are in-game ratings, not measures of real-world performance. The table lists players with equal ratings in a particular order, but the reviewed data does not explain an attribute-based tie-break, so tied players should be treated as level on this ranking.

How to choose beyond overall rating
For a base-player shortlist
Use overall rating as a quick filter, then check whether a player’s position and role suit the way you defend. FIFA Index’s separate FC 25 Defender role listing includes Van Dijk, Gabriel, and Saliba as Defender+ centre-backs. It also lists Bremer and Millie Bright at 86 overall in that role group. A role label offers another comparison point, but does not by itself establish that a player is superior for every tactic.
For Ultimate Team
This is a base-rating list, not a live ranking of Ultimate Team cards. Check the exact card version you own or plan to use and compare attributes relevant to your squad, such as pace, physicality, defending, and PlayStyles. Charlie INTEL’s August 27, 2024 article on leaked FC 25 Ultimate Team ratings discussed those kinds of factors before release and warned that the leaked values could change; it is historical context, not evidence of the current best cards.
