Before you start Black Myth: Wukong, get comfortable managing stamina, watching enemy timing, and using Focus only when you have an opening. You can change your Sparks later, and exploring optional paths can reward you with abilities and upgrades. These nine spoiler-light tips focus on what helps most as you learn the game.
Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology and based on Journey to the West. PlayStation lists the PS5 version with an August 20, 2024 release date. Its official description highlights combining spells, abilities, weapons, and equipment to find a strategy that suits your combat style.

1. Save stamina for your next dodge
Attacking and dodging draw on the same practical survival budget: if you spend too long extending a combo, you may have no room to react when an enemy strikes. Favor shorter attack strings when you are still learning a fight, and leave enough stamina to evade the next threat.

Use early attempts to learn an enemy’s timing and attack patterns. Notice when it commits to an attack, how long it leaves an opening, and whether it follows one move with another. Once you recognize a safe moment, you can attack without guessing or trading hits unnecessarily.

3. Spend Focus when an opening is real
Focus supports stronger heavy and varied attacks, but a powerful move can still miss if you use it at the wrong time. If a boss is moving away, attacking, or changing phase, hold your Focus until it is committed and within reach. Treat it as a chance to capitalize on an opening, not a button to press whenever it fills.
4. Choose a staff stance for the situation
Stances have different tactical uses; none is a universal answer. Try switching your approach when an encounter makes one style feel awkward.

These are broad profiles, not a ranking. The Epic Games Store’s skills guide describes the stances this way, while PlayStation’s product description notes that the game lets players combine different abilities and equipment to suit their style.
5. Experiment with Sparks instead of guarding every point
Early upgrades can feel permanent, but the cited guides describe ways to refund Sparks: GameSpot points to the Keeper’s Shrine option called Reignite the Sparks, and the Epic Games Store guide says individual or all skill points can be refunded. That flexibility makes it reasonable to try an upgrade and adjust when a later encounter calls for something different.

For an initial direction, Xbox Wire recommends investing in base stats and stamina. That is one writer’s recommendation from a short launch-period playthrough, not an official optimal build; choose the upgrades that address the problems you are actually having.
6. Use spells deliberately
Spells consume mana, so decide what you want one to accomplish before casting. A spell can support a planned damage window or give you room to recover, but using it as a panic response may spend the resource without improving your position. Consider the enemy’s behavior and your own stamina before committing.

7. Treat Keeper’s Shrines as route anchors
Activate shrines when you find them. They support recovery and progression management; GameSpot also describes them as places for fast travel, crafting, brewing, shopping, and medicine. Resting restores you, but minor enemies return afterward, so weigh the convenience of recovery against the cost of fighting through a familiar route again.

Optional detours can offer useful rewards. Xbox Wire recommends searching for Yaoguai Chiefs and Meditation Spots: Chiefs can grant Spirit skills, while Meditation Spots award a Spark. You do not need to clear every side path before progressing, but a short exploration can give you more tools for the next challenge.

9. Remember the optional three-bell secret in Chapter 1
If you want to pursue an extra reward, keep an eye out for the three bells associated with a hidden Chapter 1 area. Xbox Wire reports that completing the secret area awards the Fireproof Mantle, which grants burn immunity. It is optional, not a requirement for finishing the opening; use a current walkthrough for exact bell locations if you decide to hunt them down.
