Where is the Assetto Corsa EVO open-world map?
KUNOS announced the map on December 10, 2024, placing it in the Eifel region surrounding the Nürburgring. The setting is intended to combine real-world roads and locations in a broad free-roam environment. The announcement identifies the region, but does not confirm which roads will be included in the first playable section.

How big is the announced map?
KUNOS announced an eventual landscape area of 1,600 square kilometers. 505 Games’ official free-roam FAQ clarifies that total landscape area and driveable area are not the same: the driveable area depends on the roads present in the landscape.

The figure is therefore not a road-distance measurement or a confirmed amount of playable terrain in a particular release. The available statements do not specify final road mileage, the first section’s size, or exactly which Nürburgring-area roads players will be able to drive.
How is KUNOS building the Eifel environment?
KUNOS says the environment is being created with laser scanning and proprietary terrain technology, with the full area intended to arrive in stages rather than all at once. The announcement describes the production approach and eventual ambition; it does not establish that the announced area or its roads are already available in-game.

What could players do in free roam?
The concept goes beyond driving between race sessions. In a February 2026 interview, KUNOS co-founder and executive manager Marco Massarutto described planned points of interest, special courses, navigation, interactive locations, and AI traffic. He also said players would be able to meet friends online and customize traffic.
Locations discussed included fuel stations, rental services, dealerships, hotels, restaurants, and other businesses matched to real-world places. Refuelling, repairs, and rentals were described as optional activities, rather than requirements locked behind earning in-game money. These are development plans described at interview time, not a checklist of features verified in a released free-roam build.

The original December 2024 announcement forecast that the map would be available in Early Access from Summer 2025. The game itself entered Early Access on Steam on January 16, 2025, but that date was not confirmation that free roam had launched. The original map forecast should be treated as an outdated estimate, not a current release date. Steam’s Assetto Corsa EVO listing records the game’s Early Access information and updates.
In a February 19, 2026 interview, Massarutto said free roam remained in development and that KUNOS wanted to release the first section as soon as possible, then expand it progressively. The official news listing displayed Early Access 0.9 as its latest listed release, dated August 26, 2026; Steam also displays 0.9 update content. These listings do not confirm that free roam shipped or give a new map release date. Massarutto’s interview with Traxion contains his development update.
Asked about the feature’s future, Massarutto said: “Free roam in EVO is not in danger at all. If anything, this change is actually helping us move faster by removing backend and game economy constraints that were slowing its development down.” That was his assurance in February 2026, not a dated release commitment.
Is the open-world map playable now?
The cited status information does not verify free roam as available in a released build. It establishes that the game entered Early Access in January 2025 and that KUNOS described the map as still in development in February 2026. The later 0.9 listings do not, on their own, confirm the mode’s release.
For players asking whether they can currently cruise around the Nürburgring in EVO, the evidence supports the setting of the planned map, but not access to a specific set of roads or a playable free-roam section. Check the game’s current update notes for any subsequent confirmation.
