Are Nintendo Store Prices the Same as Online Prices?

Nintendo prices can differ from retailer listings—and digital and physical MSRPs differ for a limited category of new Switch 2 games. Compare the same title, format, region and final checkout cost.

No—not as a blanket rule. Nintendo’s own store, Nintendo eShop and third-party online retailers can show different prices. The result depends on the game, whether it is digital or physical, the retailer, the region and the date. Nintendo also announced a limited digital-versus-physical MSRP policy for certain new Switch 2 games starting in May 2026.

What “Nintendo Store” and “online prices” can mean

Nintendo’s online store sells physical products and digital games, while Nintendo eShop is its digital storefront. “Online prices” might also mean listings from independent retailers. Those are not interchangeable comparisons: a digital eShop listing, a physical copy from Nintendo and a retailer’s price for either format may differ.

For a useful comparison, match the exact game and edition, format and region, then compare the current listing prices and the final checkout cost. No general market-wide statistic establishes how often Nintendo’s prices match other online sellers.

When Nintendo digital and physical game prices differ

Nintendo of America announced on March 25, 2026, that beginning in May 2026, new Nintendo-published digital games exclusive to Switch 2 would have an MSRP different from their physical versions, starting with preorders for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Nintendo says the change reflects the different costs of producing and distributing each format; it does not establish that digital will always cost less, or that physical will always cost less. The announcement is specific to that category of new Switch 2 games, not a rule for every Nintendo game or older release. Read Nintendo’s pricing announcement.

#1 Best Overall
Nintendo Switch 2 System
  • The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
  • One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
  • Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
  • Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
  • GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play

Nintendo also says retail partners set their own prices for physical and digital games, and prices may vary by title. A retailer’s price therefore need not match Nintendo’s MSRP, and the direction or size of any difference depends on the live listing.

How to compare a Nintendo price with another online listing

  1. Match the product. Confirm the same title, edition and included content. A standard game and a deluxe edition are not equivalent.
  2. Match the format. Compare digital with digital or physical with physical. If comparing across formats, identify that difference rather than treating the listings as like-for-like.
  3. Use the same region and currency. Do not compare one country’s MSRP with another country’s tax-inclusive price.
  4. Compare the final cost. Add applicable tax and, for physical orders, shipping. Nintendo’s US support FAQ says applicable delivery-area tax is added at checkout.
  5. Record the date and seller. Prices and offers change. State when and where you checked, and identify the retailer if reporting a specific comparison.

Nintendo’s US and Canadian online stores have separate shipping territories: the US Store ships only to US addresses, and the Canadian Store only to Canadian addresses. See Nintendo Store order support for the store’s order details.

Prices can change by region and date

As an example of why a price needs a region and date—not as evidence of game-price parity—Nintendo’s May 8, 2026 investor briefing listed a US Switch 2 suggested retail price change from $449.99 to $499.99 effective September 1, 2026. The briefing states that US prices exclude tax. For Europe, it listed the My Nintendo Store price changing from €469.99 to €499.99 on the same date, with tax included. These are hardware figures, not game prices. Nintendo’s May 2026 investor briefing.

Digital purchases through Nintendo.com have regional conditions

Nintendo’s Americas digital-purchase service is listed for Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and the United States. Nintendo says a Nintendo Account is required and must have accessed eShop on a Switch or Switch 2 at least once before buying digital games through Nintendo.com. Purchases download to the console selected during checkout. These details apply to the listed Americas service, not necessarily to every country or Nintendo store. See Nintendo’s digital-purchase FAQ.
