NVIDIA GeForce NOW is the strongest Amazon Luna alternative if you want to stream supported PC games you already own. Xbox Cloud Gaming is the better fit if you want a subscription catalog that works across a wide range of devices. PlayStation Plus cloud streaming and Boosteroid are also worth checking, but their current eligibility, availability and catalogs need verification in your country.
There is no universal winner: compare the games you want, how you access them, your devices, local availability and any play-time limits before subscribing.
Which cloud gaming service should you choose?
Start with the game, not the service name. A cloud gaming subscription may give you access to a catalog, let you stream selected games you already own, or combine the two. The exact title must be supported, and availability can vary by region, plan and device.
- Choose GeForce NOW if you have games in supported PC stores and want to stream those titles. Connecting a store library does not mean every game in it is playable.
- Choose Xbox Cloud Gaming if you want cloud access to eligible Game Pass games, with some separately owned games supported too. Check the current plan allowance and title eligibility.
- Consider PlayStation Plus cloud streaming if your gaming is centered on PlayStation titles, but verify current streaming eligibility, plan requirements and supported devices on Sony’s regional service page.
- Consider Boosteroid as another PC-focused option, after checking its official regional details and catalog for the games you want.
For comparison, Amazon says Luna is available in 14 countries and supports devices including Fire TV, computers, mobile devices and select smart TVs. Amazon’s September 21, 2026 overview lists more than 60 games for Prime members and more than 45 GameNight local multiplayer games; these are Amazon-published counts, not independent catalog measurements. The same US page lists Luna Standard as included with Prime, Luna Premium at $9.99 per month, Ubisoft+ at $17.99 and Jackbox Games at $4.99. GeForce NOW: best for supported PC games you own
GeForce NOW is designed around linking existing PC game-store libraries, rather than treating a subscription as a pass to stream every title in those libraries. NVIDIA’s setup is to choose a membership, use its app or browser, then sync supported store accounts. Search for each game in the current catalog before paying: library linking is not a guarantee of support.
NVIDIA separates Ready-to-Play titles from Install-to-Play titles. The latter includes Steam games that opted into Steam cloud streaming, may need installation at the beginning of a session, and may use optional persistent cloud storage. NVIDIA’s current how-to page lists 100 GB of single-session storage with Performance and Ultimate memberships, plus persistent-storage options of 200 GB, 500 GB and 1 TB. Xbox Cloud Gaming: best for a subscription catalog across devices
Xbox Cloud Gaming is a stronger fit when you want to play eligible games through Game Pass rather than assemble access around PC store libraries. Xbox says selected games owned or purchased outside Game Pass can also be streamed, but eligibility is limited. Its page warns that titles, counts, features and availability change over time and vary by region, Game Pass plan and platform.
The US Xbox page accessed October 7, 2026, lists monthly cloud-play allowances of 5 hours for Essential, 10 hours for Premium and 15 hours for Ultimate. Treat those as the allowances displayed for those plans on that US page, not as universal terms. The same page did not provide usable prices, so check the current local plan page for price and terms. Xbox recommends at least 10 Mbps on mobile and 20 Mbps on some other devices for best quality; actual performance depends on location, device and connection. PlayStation Plus and Boosteroid: verify before choosing
Both services merit consideration, but current official details for streaming eligibility, regions, device support, catalogs and plan requirements are not established here. Do not rely on an old comparison table for those points. Check the official service page for your region and search for the particular game you want before subscribing. PCWorld’s overview includes both among cloud gaming options and identifies catalog, video quality and device support as useful comparison criteria; it is broad context, not a source for current service terms. What to check before paying
- Find your game in the current catalog. Confirm whether it is included in a subscription, requires a linked store account, or is streamable only under certain conditions.
- Confirm your country and local plan. Service availability, catalog and price can differ by territory. Check taxes, renewal terms and whether a listed allowance recurs monthly.
- Check your exact device. Confirm the service works on your computer, phone, TV or handheld, and whether you need an app or can play in a browser.
- Look for time or session restrictions. Xbox lists monthly cloud-play allowances by plan. For any service, confirm current queues, session limits and other restrictions in its terms.
- Check connection and controls. Xbox recommends at least 10 Mbps on mobile and 20 Mbps on some other devices for best quality. A compatible controller may be required, though select Xbox games support touch controls.
- Compare quality claims carefully. Check current official resolution and frame-rate details for the specific plan, then consider your device and network. The available information here does not establish like-for-like performance benchmarks.
Do you need to buy a new controller?
Not necessarily. Xbox says most cloud games require a compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB, while select titles offer touch controls. Amazon lists Xbox and PlayStation 4 and 5 controllers as compatible with Luna, and says GameNight can use a phone as a controller. Check compatibility with your device and the games you plan to play before buying anything; Luna’s own controller is not required for the alternatives covered here.
