Before creating characters in AION 2, agree with the friends you most want to play with on a region, faction, and server. Then compare the hours everyone can actually play and check the live server list. Servers are faction-specific, although NCSOFT has documented a limited cross-faction PvE option beginning March 11, 2026. That does not make every activity or social feature cross-faction.
How faction and server choice affects playing together
NC’s global launch announcement describes character setup in this order: region, faction, then server. It also says each server hosts one faction, so Elyos and Asmodians do not share a home server. For the broadest coordination in faction-based play, choose the same faction and server before anyone creates a character. A shared schedule helps the group find time to play, but it does not change the game’s faction or server rules.
Decide whether cross-faction PvE is enough
Friends who choose opposite factions have a documented way to play together in some PvE settings. NCSOFT said that, beginning March 11, 2026, players could form cross-faction PvE parties for dungeon and party play, with limited communication in those settings. If your group is considering different factions, decide whether that specifically described PvE scope meets your needs. Check current official notes for changes before relying on it.
Choose around your group’s actual play windows
The official announcements do not identify a faction that is better for early, late, weekday, or weekend play. Treat schedule fit as a group decision rather than a faction advantage.

- Agree on a region. Ask which region everyone intends to use before comparing factions or servers. The available announcements do not establish that players in different regions can group together.
- Compare realistic availability. Share the days and hours each person expects to play, then identify the windows that overlap. This helps the group plan, but does not override server rules.
- Pick the play-together path. For the widest alignment in faction-based play, settle on one faction and server. If friends split factions, do so with the documented limits of cross-faction PvE and communication in mind.
- Verify the live server list before character creation. NC says availability changes continuously, so do not rely on an old list when choosing a server.
Check server pairings separately for cross-faction PvP
NC’s launch announcement says Elyos and Asmodian servers are paired for a limited time, with opponents in modes such as the Abyss and Spacetime Rifts coming from the matched server. These pairings are a PvP consideration, not a permanent guarantee of which opponents a group will encounter. Check current official pairing information if those modes matter to your decision; the available announcements do not establish a current pairing table or how long a particular pairing will last.
